Celine to Receive ICON Award, Perform at Billboard Awards - May 22nd, 2016

Thrilled for this performance and recognition!

 

I hope Celine's team has many more surprises for us.

 

I think the general public will be happy to hear Celine cover a Queen song. It will be new for a lot of people and maybe it will get her a little more attention from the media. Also, it really is a fitting song for this time in her life/career.

 

Looking forward to all of the exciting things the remainder of 2016 has in store for Celine and us fans!!

I can see her expresion and her moves already during this performance. Bring it! The wait is going to draaaggg by. Yes,I hope she wears something sexy but not like The Voice episode for Incredible.

 

I hope the AMA's (or the network that it's on) dosen't take it down right after like they did with Hymne.

I think she will get the respect of the majority of people. She is at a point in her career and life that it would make no sense to try knock her down.

Regardless, I think she'll be amazing and I'm so glad that she chose TSMGO, love her version of it. No doubt, she'll get a standing ovation.

if i may say, Celine didn't release the full power, strength and energy when interpret this song, no doubt this song meant a lot to her but from all the live version available to us, i just feel that Celine had reserved her powerful vocal on this song, i believe Celine still has the strengths if she wants to.

This is brilliant and I couldn't be any more thrilled with the choice of song. The date of the awards work perfectly for me as well as the next day is a holiday so no worries about being up late.

I adore the current LV version but I think it would be amazing if she started with a stripped down piano version like the one below, and then half way through they broke into the huge orchestral LV version.... it would be epic. It will never happen and I'll still be happy with the full LV arrangement, but had to share.

Reminds me so much of the instrumental version of TSMGO on the menu of TTEOTW. I would love if she has the Beethoven No. 5 chords at the beginning for the dramatic entrance like in the Vegas show, then the soft piano until either the first chorus or the second verse, and then the full orchestra.

I do wonder what will define as a "special rendition" of the song. I honestly expect it to be somewhat different than both the TCWT version and the recent vegas version. I'm not sure how, but I do know that I hope she actually sings the first "show must go on".... everytime I watch a video of her performing the song jt just looks awkward at that part. She let's the backup singers sing that part, but she really should. She actually did back in 2008 earlier performances in Africa she did.

Thank God it's this song...she seems to really hit all the high notes with ease during the 2nd half of the song, and I wonder if she'll lip the last note like she does at the show. (I doubt it.) Ugh JLo definitely downgraded the prestige of the word ICON.

I wonder if another part of the show will be dedicated to Prince and if Celine would participate. I would hope so, as Purple Rain is amazing in her show. Although, a lot of people would go up in arms were she to perform that song I think....they want someone closer to Prince's style/genre to do it.

It's about ten years overdue, but whatever - who's counting?

 

She's the last of a dying breed of true musical icons - she has worked harder and for longer than just about any other major female recording artist in music history. Take away the achievements - you're still left with an incredible and lasting legacy.

 

So deserved and I can't wait - bound to be an emotional night.

 

What's even more overdue is her induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

Though I always figured they are just waiting for the right moment with that one. Maybe next year is the charm, since the Junos are being held in Ottawa, where the general public will appreciate her French career (hard to say the same for, say, Calgary, where the awards took place this year).

 

 

And to echo others - JLo? Huh? Was nobody else around and available to show up to the Billboards that year?!

Well it's no Hymne a l'amour - because I could watch her sing that on award shows ad infinitum - but it's as appropriate and inspired a song choice as any.

 

I have two hopes for this:

 

1) That they acknowledge her French career (Since US media tend to completely ignore it. They seem to start the clock at Unison and forget that she's been releasing records since she was 13! Irks me to no end when they completely disregard that she's also one of the most successful non-English-language artists ever.)

 

2) That she brings RC along as her date! Partially because I think it would be super cool for him to see mum being honoured that way, but mostly because I just want her to have someone to hug.

I've just watched the video on youtube of feb performance of the song... In my opinion it's not the best choice... I don't like specially how see modulates her voice but well... the last notes will blow up minds if she does not fall into the "little cat screams" that she did with this song in other concerts/performances. And I just hope that she is a little bit more contained in her "crazy diva hands movements" because it's sooo celinish and it's ok for her own show.. but this is a worldwide performance... hahaha you know what I mean..

I'm always ok with the eternal covers discussion... I love covers... but maybe this time, for an Icon award, she should have chosen an "original" song... But of course avoiding MHWGO or BYLM because they are soo overused... Or maybe it would have been a shock to everybody to sing MHWGO with completely new arrangements that makes it unrecognizable because attending to the lyrics, probably this is the song that better reflects Celine feelings of lost for the very first time...

Someday i would like to hear MHWGO in a very delicate way.. with no big ending high note orchestral explosion, just a piano... similar to her cover of Over the Rainbow, or Nature Boy...
