The René Angélil legacy

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I watched carefully. She literally spelled out L.V. one last time (even after she did the finger sign during the service).

I am reading this thread backwards, and it's touching to see all the support, love & leaning on to each other. I flew to Montreal (from Vancouver, west coast of Canada) last Wednesday, and it was an honour to pay my respects to René, and offer support to Celine. It was incredible to witness firsthand the amazing strength she had to be there for hours on end. Michel Dion, Patrick & Jean-Pierre Angelil stayed by her side all day too, including the bodyguards. It was difficult to hear about her trembling so badly near the end of the evening though. I was receiving updates on my phone from friends who were watching the live stream....as I sat in a coffee shop after my visit.

I wanted to let you guys know that I told Celine that all her dedicated fans around the world were watching online & that they send her their love. I reminded her that if she feels like she cannot continue so soon at the end of February; that she takes the time she needs. Same goes for her busy summer schedule. I mentioned that all her fans want her to be well, and we will be there (in Las Vegas, etc) when she is ready. ❤️ She was so appreciative, and even mentioned on how we are her strength.

Bless her heart. Even when she is empty, this woman gave & gave so much of herself. A lot of my friends who are casual admirers of her, have now fallen in love with her grace & strength after noticing her selflessness during the visitation & the funeral. ❤️

GOSH!!! That's so beautiful, what you said to her! It really touches me. That's nearly the exact words, I would have told her, if I had the possibility (and the money) to cross the atlantic. How long did you have to wait, until you've got the chance to express your sympathy with her?

I pleadingly hope, that the people around her don't put too much unconscious pressure on her, and that she can finally have the luxury to be weak. Her strength and dignity during these sorrowful day was beyond remarkable. I truely pray, that the press leaves her alone too. So she can define the time she needs to mourn.

There's a woman in Austria, who lost her two little kids and her beloved husband in an car accident and she wrote a terrific book about mourning and how to get back to life after such a tragic loss. And she said, that mourning has got it's own time reckoning. There's noone else, but yourselve, who could say, when it's time to be happy again. Even if you think, that you've overcome the deepest despair, can it hit you straight out of the blue. And that love is the only thing, that helps getting through.

The happiness then is part of the pain now. But love will always help to ease the pain! EDIT: But the way can be very long!

I couldn't disagree more.

I believe his ex-wives had all the right to be there to mourn and console their children if they wanted to. I don't see any reason why 'the proper thing' would be to mourn in private. They were not his mistresses, they were his ex-wives. Whatever relationship he had with them is ancient history, but still part of his story and they are still the mothers of his older children.

I'm pretty sure Celine understands that, she's a grown-up. It has nothing to do with 'mourning my husband in front of me'. It's all about respect, really.

That's just my opinion, as I said, Celine is a very big woman when it comes to things like that, just my thoughts, I would feel uncomfortable with it, doesn't mean Celine would feel the same way. 😊

Everybody is different.

I completely agree with this statement wholeheartedly. I think to tell the ex wives they're not allowed to come would be EXTREMELY distasteful

I heard through the grapevine that Nick and Mike are no longer working for her :( Only Jeremy and two new ones.

Does anyone want the people scans? I just got the magazine today. I will create a topic for the scans if anyone wants :)

I just read the article and I think Thérèse is still living with Celine. It said "Dion made arrangements for Thérèse to go to be with Daniel when they heard of the news."

I think Céline's mom just happened to be visiting Céline and René when they heard about Daniel...

I don't think it means she actually lives with her. :hmm:

I heard that Therese stays with them a few months out of the year but she doesn't actually live there. She has that wonderful home in Montreal that I think she lives at with one of her daughters, Louise maybe? I forgot, but there was an episode about her about a year ago in Montreal where they followed her around when the house in Charlemagne was torn down and some of it was filmed at her home.

Yeah I thought that when I read it earlier.

Only thing was I'm not sure about Celine staying there for a week. Don't know if he meant another week or a week from last weds. I'm thinking the latter is more likely.

I would imagine she visits Vegas for the few months a year that the weather in Montreal has a chance of being coldest.

A little off topic but please look at this picture. It was taken recently:

This is why I love Gloria Estefan. The way she's looking at her husband Emilio is identical to the way Cèline looked at Rene. :(

It's one of the few remaining devoted couples left in showbIz.

Today, I listened to some old Celine's records (early 80's stuff) and I didn't realize how much «C'est pour toi» is all about René. Eddy Marnay did a great job on this one particularly. It's a heartbreaking and powerful album; especially now knowing that Rene is gone.

I don't know if you read the book «My life, my dream», but Celine says at one point that this album was recorded really quickly and it did not have the success of the earliest albums. But she said that the album meant something special for her because she was painfully in love with René at that time and the lyrics reflected exactly how she felt.

I've been listening to her early stuff recently too. I have the "1982-1988 Collection" double disc set and I love listening to it, though I usually don't give it as much playtime as some of her other stuff.

It's very true, listening to a lot of her early songs it is VERY easy to see how much her love for Rene influenced the music. So bittersweet to make these revelations now.

Actually it's a very nice album. I can hear a certain melancholy in it. I always liked it especially the title track. I think her voice started to change at the time. It was becoming more mature and she was becoming a young woman. The words of the songs clearly reflect her secret love for René.

Sweet and emotional interview with Julie Snyder:

I didn't understand every word, but it sounded like she was saying: Rene gave her a chance at the beginning of her career. There were not a lot of female producers at the time, but he gave her a chance -- and the first special she produced was about Celine (I'm guessing this is Un An Avec Celine? Or maybe the '95 one from Cannes?). They split something (maybe the profits) 50-50 -- and Rene told her to always remember that if the deal is bad for the other guy, it's bad for you. True in business, in relationships, whatever.

She talked about how much Rene loved Celine, and how, even after many years, he was still amazed by hearing her sing. She compared Rene to Colonel Parker and said that the difference was that Rene loved his artist. Celine and Rene started out as business, then they fell in love, and the combination was explosive. And she said that she'd often be nervous about something, and Rene would always tell her, "Tout va etre correct." (Everything will be fine). I've heard many people say that Rene would often say that -- it seems to have been one of his catch phrases (Patrick quoted it at the funeral, too).

Anyway, lovely tribute. Julie got very emotional at the end, saying that "Tout va etre correct" even now without Rene.

It's funny, I've been listening to those three albums of what I think of as Celine's ingenue phase for the last few weeks. They really are amazing at portraying the dreaminess and earnestness of being that age, and having those emotions.

My friend and I got to Notre Dame at 12:45pm, and there were approx 200 people in line already. We all expected Celine to leave, so when the line up of people barely moved to head inside.... we were thinking "wow, this is oddly taking a long time". Friends who were watching the live stream was telling me that Celine was still there. It took us 3.5 hours outside before we got inside. Once we got inside, we had another hour to wait, as we slowly moved up to the front.

Anyone else wondered why we never seen Nick, Michael or Vincent over those three days, as she just seemed to use Jeremy. Nick is her chief protection officer, so I just wondered...

Nick no longer works for Celine :( I asked Jeremy when I was in Las Vegas. He has a family now :)

In the paparazzi shot of them leaving Las Vegas, the woman who is pregnant works for AEG & is a family friend.
