The René Angélil legacy

Happy birthday RC, you are such a strong, wise, dignified, centered young man. I am sad you have to take on so much at just 15 years old. You are right, 15 years is not long enough, but I know you have what you need and will continue to both give and receive it from your mother and extended family.

L'immensite de mon amour pour Celine! L'amour existe encore pour elle! :)

The National Enquirer published a photo of Rene in the casket. How tasteless.

It was the NE who posted a pic of Whitney in hers. 😈😝

I am not surprised. However, the NE didn't have to work really hard to get a photo because it was a public viewing. Whitney's family sold her out. :wtf: It's still a horrible thing to do.

I still struggle to get my head around everything that we have witnessed & everything Celine shared with us these past few days.

I was listening to my love today and the lyrics have such a new meaning!

So many of her songs do now , it's like listening to them for the first time!

Today is RCs birthday and I can't imagine how hard it's going to be today for him.

My wish for him is for brighter days ahead for him and his family

happier birthdays and finding comfort in the memories of all the ones past he had with his dad.

Tonight when I was cooking I listened to "je sais pas" live "au coeur du stade".

At the end of this sang Celine talks. I wasn't really focuses on what she was saying and then I stopped to cook because and begin to cry because she said : "je voulais vous dire quelque chose.... René va bien".

These last days I was so desperate about the situation.

I didn't watch the whole Rene's funerals... I just watched the end of the ceremony. I don't know if I want to watch it. It makes me cry to see Celine crying. But it could help me to be fine again.

It's not that I think to Rene all day long but it feels like something is not normal.

I'm so happy to see that there are so many people like me.

Thank you to all of you to share your feelings here.

I never write to Celine, but I want to. But maybe it will be better to write her in a few months just to say that she is an incredible woman. So humble and strong.

I will see Celine in Paris the 24th of June.

Thank you again guys for all your comments, I'm not alone in the sadness.

And this is probably just one of the many things that René took into consideration when planning his funeral.

At least they didn't make as much of a profit off the photo. And this is less traumatizing for the family since it was already such a public viewing.

It doesn't make it any better, but René took the situation into his own hands and took away any power the tabloids could have in hurting his family.

Wasn't it reported that the government only pay for part of it?

People shouldn't moan at celine. She was offered it. There's a difference.

Not being funny, but knowing celine, she'd pay for the whole damn thing if she had to.

I agree,

Cèline and Rene's overal net worth combined is ..... 1.4 Billion US dollars.

It wasn't about the fact that they paid some of it, she accepted it because "State Funeral" is a very high honor. It would be impossible to pass on.

exactly, and that woman in article talk about cultural impact, and I mean if Rene didnt have it then who did  but anyway I think it's predictable to have this kind of articles, it never will be 100% positive

Someone in The Red Heads wrote a very strong article about the tradegy and the 'national funeral', I agree with every single word!!

Yes, "State Funeral" is a very high honor, but i'm sure it's also a very high honor for Canada to be homeland of such an amazing and genius man as Rene Angelil was.

Then there are the debates. Of those that sicken and infuriate under such circumstances. Such as whether this man is worthy enough to receive a national honor. Whether this is not going to cost the taxpayers too much money.

Intellectuals do their homework research, we compare managers, we proudly mention Elvis and Colonel Parker, we study the influence and we count the points.

If given a voice to those non-legitimate, this is what they would say. There are more Celine fans around the world than Quebecers. It is a fact.

We could empty the entire province and repopulate it only with people who have dreamed of Quebec through Celine and Rene. Fans from China, Brazil, Cameroon, Italy, Australia... With people who have no clue what’s the name of Canada’s Prime Minister but who would not hesitate one second to give the right answer to the following question "what Quebec singer... ".

These two are not just ambassadors, they are the nobility of Quebec, the royal couple.

Never a scandal, always with class, generosity and talent. Celine and Rene are the symbol of French America, they are the promoters for half a century of a province, an accent, a country. René is the one that signed millions of dollars in checks for international causes: tsunamis, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. He is the one that pays in all discretion the medical care that your sick neighbor has received, because of his daughter’s desperate letter that she one day sent out. He is the one that offers all inclusive trips to entire families accompanying a dying loved one on their last wishes.

And some wonder if the man deserves a tribute in the big church?

What did Quebec do for René that René has not returned a hundredfold?

It's time to mourn, a joyous and serious man, thoughtful and candid, generous and brave who left us forever. It's time to celebrate his life, and to offer him, on behalf of all those he marked around the world, a worthy farewell to the life he lived. It is Quebec’s duty that must be met for him, for his family, his friends, but also for the millions of us who are way too far to be able to gather on the steps of Notre Dame Basilica.

We were with Celine and her family by livestreem, keep sending our love to her now and always. Almost half of Montreal came to support her! We know what's right anyway. I think tabloids will try to specilate with this "national" point again and again. Well let's leave it on their conscience.

The rosary beads were made out of the flowers of the funeral of her father. She gave them to her siblings. At least that's what she told @ Oprah.

Well, yeah, that's what I mean, she saves all those types of things. I was referring to the Oprah interview, I just didn't have the exact details of what they were made of but my point is She is so sentimental like that. She takes meaning from a lot of different things like that so it makes sense that she's going to keep Rene's wedding ring and wear it

The hardest and saddest part in all of this for me is that everything that involves Rene, every picture, every video, every memory with Rene is now in the past. There will never be a new memory or picture, there will never be another tender embrace between him and Celine. All Celine's achievements and her touching love story with Rene is now in the past.

I am finding it impossible to imagine Celine's life without Rene. Everything we have ever learned about Celine, all her stories with Rene, milestones in her career and her inspirational romance will now only be a memory.

It's like Celine is completely starting over. I can't handle this. It's so sad. I don't know about anyone else, but I still can't stop crying. I can't deal with the fact that Rene is gone. :teary:

I know this sounds awful, but I'm glad to hear what you're saying. Honestly I am having a really hard time with this I am surprised. I knew I would be sad of course but I can't get it all out of my mind. I am watching and re-watching parts of the funeral and then watching clips of Celine and Rene and the family all together. I am just finding this whole situation so tragic - I've been a fan for 25 years, not as long as many of the members of this forum I know, but it's like they were a package deal. Once she declared her love publicly they have been inseparable. And just look at the two of them together, she would constantly be hugging, touching or holding his hand, it must feel to her like someone has just cut off one of her limbs or something

We just have an information in France like what Céline would not attend his brother funeral. That is true ?

Are you saying that Celine will not be attending her brother Daniel's funeral today?

YES. Why I said wrong ?

Does anybody have any news about that ?

I didn't think you were wrong, I just wanted to make sure that's what you said. Where did you hear that Celine isn't going to Daniel's funeral?

If this is true, Celine probably just thought that since it's RC's birthday, going to the wake yesterday was enough sadness and maybe they just didn't want that on RC's birthday.

ET Canada just posted it

It's been a devastating week for Celine Dion, to say the least.

Just one day after her husband's funeral, the 47-year-old singer attended the memorial for her brother, Daniel Dion, on Saturday. However, Celine did not attend Daniel's funeral on Monday, as she and her children could not continue two more days of public mourning, ET has learned.

Instead, Celine paid her final respects to Daniel at his memorial service, which was held at Salon Charles Rajotte in Repentigny, ET can confirm. Daniel's funeral was held at St-Simon-et-Jude parish in Charlemagne, Québec, where the family was raised.

can you remember when she sang the day her father died? she was a wreck but she said the show must go on. she could barely sing that day so how she would be able to sing at renee's funeral would be impossible.

I agree with you. As far as I remember She felt she had no choice though, the people were there so she had to continue on with the show - which as a pro - she did. I think a funeral is a different situation, why would she want to put herself through that torture of performing again after someone she loves dies, especially Rene, I don't think she would be physically or mentally able to have performed, she looked as if she was in a trance and she was shaking sometimes, I'm glad she didn't sing

I know. I just saw the news in another topic. So sad, but I am glad for her mental well being that she didn't go to the funeral today. It's just all to much right now, she need's a break.

Calm yourself!

I watched every me minute of the wake and funeral for 2 days.

You don't have to explain to me how much pain Cèline was in, I saw it clearly.

I just asked the question, and to say she didn't feel anything towards her brother but to wish him well in the after life at just 59 years old is crazy. Husband and brother isn't the same kind of love but its still as strong in a different way. I'm not judging Cèline, I love her even more after this past week.

Why am I quoted here?
