Kristinaz Posted January 15, 2019 at 12:56 AM Posted January 15, 2019 at 12:56 AM Fine y'all can say I'm insane I don't care at this point but I will share a story that I may or may not have shared from my trip to Vegas in 2016. Recall in November 2016 Celine had developed a viral infection which she had canceled a number of shows. Well this was like a week or two before my show. SO every night before i went to bed I'd pray and ask Rene to make her better in time for my show. Well she got better in time but the weirdest thing happened. So we are all very aware Rene loved "The Show Must Go On" The night before i remember saying something like "well Rene if you're there tomorrow I'll be at section (whatever) and row (whatever) come find me. I laughed when I said it and was all like yeah right ok. During TSMGO I felt something touch me I turned around nothing no one infact the seat behind me was empty so I moved over a little bit then suddenly I felt something come next to me I kinda went "Rene? is that you?" I am not joking you when i say the second the song ended whatever the heck it was went away. I couldn't feel it anymore. I know the story sounds weird and some people might laugh think I'm losing it and that's fine we are all entitled to our own opinions but i'd like to believe it was Rene and that he is there every night and sits at his chair and watches the show even to this day. 7 Quote
Tricey3115 Posted January 15, 2019 at 01:11 AM Posted January 15, 2019 at 01:11 AM I believe you 100% i feel rene is with all of us who love and support him and Celine. Thats why Celine talks to him still everyday she probably feels him the most around her just like when she felt a sign to record how does a moment last forever 3 Quote
sfbaysinger Posted January 16, 2019 at 03:34 AM Posted January 16, 2019 at 03:34 AM What a simply amazing story, Kristinaz. I do not laugh at things like that and I do not think you are crazy. I have suggested to a fan friend when she was worried Celine would not be well enough to sing on the night they were supposed to go that they talk to Rene and ask him to do whatever it is they can do wherever it is he is. It has worked for them also and I am soooooo happy to hear it did for you, too. And yes, he does love that song, I love it so much that he did come find you and that you, in tun, were open enough to notice that. Way to go, those are the rare, precious, miraculous little moments in life, huh? I love what you did! And yes, I believe he is there every night still, and will be even when the show ends and she moves on, if she does, to whatever is next. 2 Quote L'immensite de mon amour pour Celine! Popular Post Tom_London_Fan Posted January 16, 2019 at 01:39 PM Popular Post Posted January 16, 2019 at 01:39 PM I’ll never forget hearing about Rene’s passing. I was on a flight back from Vegas...I got the chance to meet her before her show the night before and she seemed in such high spirits. We had WiFi onboard the flight and I saw a tweet from People magazine announcing his death. I had 6 hours left of the flight and was heartbroken. I met René back in 2013 and he was a perfect gentlemen. RIP our dear René. I’m so glad she’s continuing her career, for René. 8 Quote
Popular Post scielle Posted January 16, 2019 at 02:28 PM Popular Post Posted January 16, 2019 at 02:28 PM I never had a chance to meet him, but it's pretty extraordinary to have a super successful exec who seems so universally loved by everyone who worked with him.I mean, to get to a certain level, you generally have to be pretty cutthroat and have some sharp elbows at times. But he seemed nothing like that at all - quite the opposite, in fact - and yet he managed to achieve so much, against all odds. Celine was so lucky to have him in her life. There was so much history there, and she must still miss him so much. It must be such a massive hole in her life. And I hope that if there's ever a proper doc or feature biopic or something like that made about her, I hope Rene gets properly reflected. It irritates me so much when people assume the worst about him simply because they started working together when she was so young (especially now...) There's so much misinformation floating around out there and even fairly reputable media often get basic details wrong (like when they married - I mean, come on, this is basic journalism!)While her personal life is nobody's business, I do sometimes wish Celine would set some of these people straight! 12 Quote

I agree. Also when it comes to Rene and his legacy, and what he thought Celine. I think even bigger than helping to mold her insanely amazing career was the fact that Celine many times has said that Rene kept her “grounded” and “humble”. Those things are what makes Celine who she is today even more than her amazing talent. She started so so young and I’m almost certain without Rene guiding her as she has said “ to do the gig, have a good time and go back home, always go back home”. I think without Rene, Celine wouldn’t have enjoyed this longevity. Happy Birthday René. 11 Quote
Popular Post isabel leite Posted January 16, 2019 at 05:39 PM Popular Post Posted January 16, 2019 at 05:39 PM Admiration. That is the first word that comes to my mind when I think about Rene. He was sensitive enough to perceive a young talent. He had the courage to invest in her when nobody else wanted to. Yes he molded her in the begining, she was a young girl with no experience. Not only did he help to form the artist, but the woman as well. When she received the Order of Canada Honour she said it clearly 'Thank you Rene for the woman and the artist that I am.' He was responsible for creating , organizing and administrating an entire career. All she had to do was sing as well as possible. I am not saying that her part was easy,(quite the opposite) As she has said so many times 'All I had to do was jump in the water because I knew that the pool would be filled and warm'. Finally, what I most admire about Rene is the respect that he had for her. He respected her innocence as she said during her Taking Chances tour 'He respected my innocence and that is one of the reasons why I fell in love with him'. He respected her ideas ,likes and dislikes . During the Michel Jasmin intreview it was clear that in the begining he set the rules but after Celine took charge. Concluding no woman in my point of view would show so much love for a man unless he was a heck of a man! Rene , Thanks for giving us the artist and thanks for giving Celine so much love! Happy birthday! 8 Quote
sfbaysinger Posted January 17, 2019 at 05:16 AM Posted January 17, 2019 at 05:16 AM I think my two favorite moments from her career was when she was recording Falling Into You and she had an idea but was afraid to tell him and he encouraged her to find her own artistic voice and style. And when she got the idea for the part of Don't Save It All For Xmas Day that she wrote and he kept telling her, I think this is yours those two moments really move and always inspire me. Happy birthday, Rene! 3 Quote L'immensite de mon amour pour Celine! L'amour existe encore pour elle!

You're right on spot with that. I was one of those thinking he held Celine back but actually it was the opposite, it was Céline saying "NO" to 80% of the things René proposed her to do and what we finally saw come to fruition was only the remaining 20%, just a small portion of the things René wanted her to do (this was said by René himself I think in the AND documentaries). So he didn't lie... here we are on the sixth year waiting for a new English album, when René wouldn't probably have allowed more than 3 years for the next album... She proceeded to guide the 4,000-strong crowd through the chorus before saying, “This is the greatest gift that I can offer him for his birthday, because what he loved the most in the world is the fans, the music and to see me perform for you,” adding, “Are you ready to sing that for Rene?” The crowd helped the French-Canadian legend through the chorus, to which they applauded Dion. Looking up to the heavens, Dion blew a kiss and said, “Happy birthday, my love.” Turning back to the crowd at Caesars Palace, she added, “I couldn’t have offered him a better gift.” 2 Quote

Not bad, don't you think? Between Taking Chances and LMBTL we had all that PLUS the new French album released the year before, so we had two consecutive studio albums in 2012 and 2013. From LMBTL until Encore un soir she took 3 years to record again new songs. And from EUS to this damn new album... well, we're on the third year of waiting again Do you still think all the aforementioned has any comparison at all with the current situation??? 1 Quote "Hush, now... I don't dare to say we were more lucky because I still don't know when the next album will come, but so far, we still get a lot from Celine, although EUS is not English album, but it still took some effort and time to finish that album, we can not pretend it was nothing, and it's a great album.I'm thankful when Rene still around, and I miss to see them together, but some changes always lead to another changes. Even if Rene still around nothing's gonna stay the same. There's nothing in this world will stay the same. Even the machine will stop working sometimes. I think every decade she will slowing down, 90's, 2000's and so on we will get less and less, the rhythm will slowing down, it's natural. 2 Quote

Also nice to hear that story about your friend sfbaysinger. It’s good to know that I’m not the only one who has had this type of experience. I find it comforting that even in the afterlife Rene continues to do what he can for the fans and of course for his family. Rene was a rare gem who truly cared about the fans. I don’t know many managers who are that way and because he was this way we got so many things and because he was this way he pushed Celine to do things she may have otherwise not done. Was it MHWGO she didn’t initially want to do?? Well we all know how that worked lol so yes I think we all miss Rene but I like to believe he’s with us and hears us. I also believe he gives Celine signs now whether she listens to his signs or not is a different story sorry I know this is a bit more serious thread but had to throw in a little bit of humour I know Rene would have enjoyed it. 1 Quote

Because they had english and french albums released parallel to each other. And you are correct, it was 3 years between SA and EUS, so what do you think that means Since 2013 we’ve had Une Seule Fois (which featured bonus’ from Paris later on in that year), the 2016 “tour documentary”, Encore Un Soir, Three amazing record breaking summer tours, Tokyo 2018 (not released for sale yet, however is available to stream online), two fashion launches, a new (albeit unsuccessful release) BATB song AND a new (and successful) movie song via Deadpool. So yes, I do. So yes it may have been 6 years between english albums, but that was also the case with TC and LMBTL, you cant take into account what happend between those times and then not take into account whats happend between 2013 and 2019.... And 3 years between SA and EUS and most likely then 3 years between EUS and this new album isnt bad at all. Certainly in comparison to other legends who youre lucky if theyve released an album this decade, let alone 3 without including the upcoming album. Id say 4 albums in a decade ( nearly 40 years into your career) is damn good. Perfect example being Celines 90s counterpart Mariah, only 2 albums this decade with 4 years between MOAIA and MIAM:TEC. Or 15 years like Shania ORRRR 6 years for Whitney The whole fandom is simply spoiled because from 1990-1999 we got 10 (new) albums and then from 2002-2004 got 3 consecutive albums OF COURSE SHES GONNA SLOW DOWN LOL Edited January 19, 2019 at 06:31 PM by Dion2000 5 Quote

And I mean way before René got sick again. Because even before LMBTL album was released, her releases calendar was already a mess and it was only about Vegas, Vegas and more Vegas But at least René would wake up soon and would never let more than 2 years go by without a new Céline release available for everyone, call it a new album, a live album, a new DVD, or even a book. He was well aware that not every fan was thinking about their Vegas shows and spending loads of money to go see just one concert. A CD lasts forever. A new album is there forever.
