Celine Dion to perform Hymne a l'Amour at AMAs

I would imagine the lyrics rang more true about her feelings for her ill husband. Piaf sang this song for the man that she loved who was killed in a plane crash. I'm sure Celine found a double meaning.

Cause she isnt there to promote herself or her songs. Its already good that they picked her, shes not even French, she's canadian. She has to sing something that represent the French, and that song from edit piaf is just perfect for the circumstances.

 

100% agree. To show solidarity, as a French-Canadina, she is the perfect candidate to sing an Edith PIAF song, who is still the icon for French cultrue,.

I thank Celine for her raw, emotional, sincere, effortless and immaculate tribute for Paris tragedy.

I have no idea she was supposed at The AMAs this year, until I read some news from twitter two hours before the show started.

She did such a beautiful rendition of that song. People should stop commenting on her current voice because what's the point, she is The Voice.

Not to mention she was so beautiful last night, with that gown and everything.

She made another mark this year.

You must go onto Google, and look for Celine Dion AMA. See what horrible things they are saying about her in the comments under the video. And those are Americans saying that, and why sing a song tribute for what happened. Please I have nothing against Americans, but what they call her..... And for me she sang sooo beautifully, ok there were a few notes that were off, so what. She sang with a hell of a lot of emotion, and powerfully. The way she sang it really choked me up. She also looked extremely beautiful. I feel so hurt when people talk so ugly of her. Love her to bits, my Celine.

I have only read positive feedback from her performance, of course there are always people who will criticize her no matter what, but even with the imperfections, Celine was superior to all the rest, artists 20 years younger.

 

BUT, it is clear that the current show in Vegas demands too much from her, she sings live most of the show now and her voice surely suffers from that. I'm not an expert, but just listening the opening night and some recent shows you can clearly see she delivers perfection when she is rested, so the questions I keep asking myself is why being in Vegas when you can sell 26 000 tickets in two hours when touring? Probably she has doctors and she knows what she is doing, but I would reduce the Vegas shows even more..

Exactly. I've heard her be absolutely perfect and be ripped apart by at least half the Internet. Last night she was not perfect but I would say 90% of comments/reviews have been outstanding. She's trending all over and she is still the main headline on one of the world's most visited news sites (even if it's a poop paper imo)

 

Celine slayed last night! It's a good time to be a fan. Everyone should be proud of what she did. She gave the best of herself in the moment and she moved many, many people. That's why she does this job.

Even if I hadn't read those things, watching the performance would establish the same.

 

No one could have done this better. She couldn't have performed this better. Her performance was iconic. The tribute was exceptional.

 

People should not get caught up in the negativity shared by a minority of people whose outlook on life is to create and spread negativity in an attempt to get attention or feel some form of misguided validation. It makes them feel "cool." It doesn't make them right.

 

Watching her performance is the only defense her performance needs. It speaks for itself. It connected with people. She expressed something so many feel at this time, and I am grateful she carried that to the world.

What a wonderful, beautiful performance. I am so proud of her and proud to be a Celine Fan! The audience really loved it, it was trending on FB today and I am hearing nothing but great comments about it. The reason for the song was sad but I think Celine comforted many last night with her stunning performance. :wub:

1st i was expecting a crystal voice full of glamour, then Celine came and sang from the heart with a smoking full voice, at some point i forget the singer and there is only a great message with a strong voice fulfilled of emotion accompanied by screen pics...i felt the moment

Yeah.. she was off and her voice cracked.. but her tone was beautiful and her voice was full... emotional.

 

I prefer that than a "nasal" controled version.

She was beautiful, ravishing and looked really committed... like the legend she is.

 

I think the mistake was in the key... there wasn't any need to do it that high.. she would have been more confortable 2 semitones lower. It's a bit the problem she had during LMBTL or LBDBM.. lot's of mid-belts that tire her out throughout the song.

 

Anyways, you have to love her for attempting this!

same thing in France. I dont think the problem comes from where they're from... I think it's just satisfaction to criticize! People are doing it for everybody. Look What Mariah went through during her asian tour... What is sad is that people dont get over it this time when this performance is such a symbolic act. There will always be haters, poor sinead o'connor is being hospitalized and on suicide watch, due to countless amount of online harrassments and rape threats. Some people just feel that they are superior when they are typing all these non-constructive negative comments behind the computers.

I truly and sincerely apologize for what I said. All the discussions I have been on, on this forum, I have tried to be a sort of nice person, and now I have made a serious mistake. Sorry that you see me as such a person that you mention above.

I too agree that it was raw, emotional, and great to her full chest voice and it was truly moving. But to be technical, the key was too high and she was flat and off-key on top of the shaky high notes. I really don't think it was her ear monitor, because she usually makes it apparent if she can't hear through it. She normally doesn't sing in that key live unless she's recording in the studio so I think for her, and given the circumstances, short notice, etc that's what led to her vocals.

 

For me, I'm completely okay with it because it floored and amazed me nonetheless. She's almost 50 and can still outperform everyone on that stage by just standing there with a microphone. It's unfortunate that she wasn't in perfect voice, but the technical mistakes doesn't take away from her performance.
