Never knew it had a title besides Divas Live 2003...I never saw that one's full show. Celine only had one song in that show for some reason so I always forget she even participated.

 

And only one video of her performance exists of it (that I can find) with only about 500 views

Celine did a solo that night of HYEBIL, but the majority of songs were a duet. It’s was hosted my Queen Latifa & Sharon Osborne from Las Vegas. If I remember correctly, Celine was asked to be a diva but only came as a special guest because she had a show a Caesars Palace the same night... so she performed her song and rushed down the road to do her full show or “A New Day..”

I wonder if this is the first time that Celine ever lipsynced to a lipped track she sung i.e. not the studio version for a television appearance.

It was definitely live... a very blusey and low register.... and I believe it was shortened without the second verse. I think the video was out of sync.

 

It's completely lipped. Look at 0:55 ... the audio goes "dreamingggg" and has this exhalation/breath, which Celine on the stage doesn't actually do. Besides, Celine would very rarely ever do those arm movements and arm choreo when singing live, that is also a give away

Well, she used custom playbacks in her TAST and AND T.V. Specials, but as far as guest appearances go, I’m having a hard time thinking of an exception where she didn’t use the album version.

Which were the custom playbacks for TAST and AND? I guess you mean the AND CBS special?

 

I mean there are probably more later on, but I remember later on she lipped TSMGO for the Billboard Awards....but then a version was later released. Can't remember if they released a separate version afterwards or the cleaned up audio from the Awards show.

Reveal would have really changed her image! And it's written by one of the best pop songwriters around---Cathy Dennis!! Besides, she was so free and having fun with her short hair, that was exactly the time to dance!

I'm pretty sure it must have been a contractual obligation. More successful songwriters (or producers, etc.) can mandate that they'll only allow an artist to record their song if it's guaranteed to be a single (or they can get even more specific and mandate it's the album launch single, or the title track, etc.). When team Céline decided to move on to One Heart so soon, they may still have "owed" the HYEBIL songwriters its release as a single, and rather than delay the release of OH, they made the questionable decision to repeat the track on a consecutive album and use it to promote OH instead of ANDHC.

 

Of course, they should never have agreed to make such an incredibly generic, boring song a single in the first place... Reveal or Naked would have been sooooo much better!

 

And note that I don't have any inside information that the above is what happened in this case so don't take it as confirmed; it just wouldn't surprise me.
