Guy Richer co-hosted this gala, and Céline was definitely there (both in 1987 and 1988), as she was nominated for a bunch of stuff: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prix_MetroStar Unfortunately, only the first half of the 1988 Gala is on Youtube... and it's the second half where the big live performances took place, so I couldn't find this performance. And it's hard to find archival/historical info about the gala because it fused with the Gala Artis at some point, so their archives are strangely intermingled and partial. I did find this playlist on youtube though... the staging is really similar and in one of the early 90s videos, you can even see the blue table cloths really clearly. BUT, I did find Céline in the video in the playlist labeled as "Club Sandwich 1986" (which might actually be 1987 but mislabeled in the playlist -- you can tell by the nominations, which match the ones for 1987 listed on the wikipedia page I linked to above). Céline appears at 53:03, and then Claire Lamarche talks about her a bunch and the camera shows her reactions starting at 54:00. It's all very confusing and hard to track down, but this is as close as I could get. 1 Quote

drove all night Posted April 24, 2026 at 10:18 PM Posted April 24, 2026 at 10:18 PM I only remember very vaguely about this: Mainly that René’s interruption was completely justified when Beaudoin asked Céline something totally inappropriate (way below the belt) - I just don’t know which program that was, and was the rest of the interview ever broadcast? Els Posted April 25, 2026 at 12:19 AM Posted April 25, 2026 at 12:19 AM (edited) Does anyone know if the rest of this is available to watch anywhere? I know it's from the CBC show "Sounds Great", a TV special filmed at the Epcot Center in 1983, and I've seen a montage of other clips from it where she sings with Peter Pringle, but I've never found the whole thing. This specific footage here looks like it's from a documentary which must have been on the CBC Gem Streaming platform at some point (?), which I'd also be happy to find, if anyone has that or knows how to get it! I’m really upset… Right now, I’m thinking about all the poor people in the world who pay $4.99/minute to be told silly things by a sort of bleached transsexual poodle [reference to telephone psychics?]. I immediately had a reaction to those little silicone gluttons with blond hair, but why? Do you take it personally too? I take it personally… because for years, we’ve been predicting the future without limits. We never charged anyone for it, and I can give you an example. For the people at 7 Jours [a gossip magazine], one of our predictions has actually come true today. Yeah, I’ll use one of our own examples: Céline Dion and René Angélil. We had predicted, years before anyone else, that they would end up together. Back then, that’s as far as we went… but today, for me, it’s even a bit embarrassing. That’s why, I think, we were showing you those images…” At 100 Limite, we’re 100% sorry to have f***** up the marketing plan of René Angélil by announcing 5 years too early his relationship with Céline Dion. Mea culpa to Céline and René. How did you do that? [EDITED IN FOOTAGE OF CÉLINE FROM A DIFFERENT INTERVIEW] Céline: It takes a good manager, and I have one. It’s been 10 years now and I’ll always have him. [EDITED IN FOOTAGE OF CÉLINE FROM A DIFFERENT INTERVIEW] We have some dates in mind, I can’t say right now… Maybe René can tell you. But since those dates aren’t 100% certain, I can’t tell you a date that’s not certain. Second allusion, September 30, 1990 [“INTERVIEWER”] You and your… “manager”, René Angélil, has it helped you in your career? [EDITED IN FOOTAGE OF CÉLINE FROM A DIFFERENT INTERVIEW] Well, I think so. It’s been an important part of my career to have had… [footage is stategically cut off here] [“INTERVIEWER”] …to have had relations with your manager. [Noises and then intentionally bad English] So we’re here with Céline Dion. Céline, are you in form [are you doing well?] [CÉLINE, answering in French] I’m doing well, thank you. [“INTERVIEWER”] Céline Dion, you know, well, we know you English with Johnny Carson, with Jay Leno, with American Music Awards… but do you French [as in French kiss] with René Angélil? [CÉLINE, answering in French] I don’t know if I really understood your question— [RENÉ] [unintelligible] [Camera cuts and then starts filming again a moment later] [RENÉ] It doesn’t have to be [unintelligible]. I warned you. [“INTERVIEWER”] Ok, no problem. [RENÉ] Now I’m telling you in front of witnesses, we’re in front of a lot of people here. There’s no need to [unintelligible]. You’re at how many seasons now? [“INTERVIEWER”] Four seasons. [RENÉ] Four seasons. You need to not do that/show that. I called about the interview. I let you do it, thinking maybe it could be funny. There could be humor… It could be funny. But this isn’t funny. Me, I don’t like that joke. Ok? Do we understand each other? We can redo it/try again though. On the one hand, that makes more sense given that the song wasn't released until 1988... unless she sang it pre-release? But on the other hand, by October 1988 (song release and gala timing), she already had the much 80s perm/bob haircut from the Incognito era. It's all very confusing! I remember when this video (the clip of it) surfaced a few years back and it made me so sad for her. She's clearly uncomfortable but does a really good job of staying calm and collected. I've always had trouble with the parodies and poking fun. I remember in the 90s when Ana Gasteyer did that impression of her during the Titanic boom on Saturday Night Live. I can't remember where I saw it, but there was an interview of her back then talking about how it hurt her, and that at some point her people told her that if she's big enough to be parodied, then she's made it and to not take it personally. But she's so sensitive and self-conscious that I can't imagine that it doesn't sting anyway, even the more "good natured" teasing stuff. (The article I shared when she talks about people laughing about her "fangs" is really heartbreaking too.) 1 Quote

In 2023, Marc Labrèche said he was quite intimidated when he met her in her lodge in Vegas 😅. Then he insisted on how extraordinarly kind Céline and René had been when his wife died although they weren’t close at all. He mentioned a huge bouquet of flowers and a note with carefully chosen words. Stephane Rousseau scoffed, noting that they hadn't even brought them in person, and everyone burst out laughing ! So kind of you to translate. I just don't understand why they burst out laughing about the fact those flowers weren't brought in person? And, did her mention when this happened? Quote

I just don't understand why they burst out laughing about the fact those flowers weren't brought in person? And, did her mention when this happened? They laugh because the expectation is delusional given Céline and René’s schedule, the fact that they’re not in a close relationship with Labrèche and that they live in the US. Rousseau’s remark deliberately sounds ungrateful and is so unexpected 😂. Labrèche doesn’t say when he met Céline in Vegas. His wife died in 2005. He did many parodies of her during the following decades, the latest was a few weeks ago I think (« Céline Galidion »). We don’t know if she still appreciates him. But as this video shows, he really does respect her. I must say I’m always a little torn between laughter and something a bit painful when he mocks her supposed lack of knowledge. I find it harsh. But Quebec humor is often much more direct than in France. 1 Quote
Zoespack Posted April 25, 2026 at 07:37 PM Posted April 25, 2026 at 07:37 PM Ok, time for Céline’s own parodies ! I'm sure you already know this piece, but I never get tired of it 3 Quote
