Great explaination!

But I must say this 4K hype is really overrated. People just stare on the resolution when there is much to it than just the pixel count. There are tons of videos labeled "4K" on Youtube but as you say many are just regular HD or SD upscaled to 4K which makes little difference. Also as you say all depends on how they shot the video or clip in the first place if it's on film, video or digital video. Don't really remember if it was George Michael or Michael Jackson, anyway they shot a music video on 30mm film and recently made a digital transfer to 4K and 30 years later, besides the clothes, it looks really great. ;) So the source is everything.

I don't think 4K is that much better than HD. Slight advantage but not four times better.

What I feel many oversee is the colours. Like regular HD with greater colour space would look better than 4K with standard colour space. IMO. :)

Both HD and 4K are picture resolutions and don't impact sound quality. Many of Céline's official uploads are likely of the highest original production quality, but most weren't originally produced in HD so the highest native quality would be standard definition (certainly her '80s and '90s videos would not have been finished in high-resolution; from the '00s on, there's escalating likelihood, and everything in the last ~decade+ is likely to be HD). Also, YouTube was originally SD-based and people didn't have high-speed internet and bandwidth at home, so earlier uploads weren't done in HD.

Full HD resolution is 1920x1080 (pixels) - this is generally what you'll find on blu-ray and most streaming (although in both cases, older content will likely be upscaled standard definition). You need full HD equipment to view this format (e.g., an HDTV, blu-ray player, HD monitor/laptop, etc.).

4K is four times the resolution of Full HD, and is also known as UHD (Ultra-High Definition). Its resolution is 3840x2160 - i.e., double the height and double the width of Full HD. There are 4K UHD discs, and a variety of streaming services also offer certain content in 4K. You need 4K equipment to view this format (e.g., 4K TV, 4K UHD player, 4K monitor/laptop, etc.). Again, older content will likely be upscaled from a lower-resolution source. (There are other visual technologies that come into play for 4K such as HDR (e.g., Dolby Vision and HDR10(+)), but they're not necessary for content to be considered 4K.)

The music videos above are not true, native 4K resolution - they've been upscaled from lower resolution sources. So while the picture looks much better (which is great!), it's not the same as it would look if it came from a true 4K source. A lot of content used to be shot on video; when this is the case, there's no possibility of a true HD or 4K treatment. Content that was shot on film, however, can be rescanned at higher resolution to create a new HD or 4K version, although this can be costly - particularly if there was any effects work done in post production.

Does anyone know what happens to the "Céline access"

YouTube channel. They had a full courage tour English set list uploaded and some other cool things and I wanted to watch it and there channel is no more and I'm so sad haha

I’m sad too as he had bootleg from the Montreal show on 18 February 2020. That contained what I believe to be the best performance of “Beauty and the Beast” in years! Also great on “You’re the Voice”.

The best is yet to come...

Maybe he got 3 copyright strikes.

He has voluntarily closed down the channel before.

I’ve got a request. I’m looking for the audio of a live version of Water From the Moon that was widely circulated during the early 2000s on fileshare programs like Kazaa, Limewire and the like. I haven’t been able to find it on YouTube.

It assume it was from a concert in Québec because during the intro (and perhaps another part in the song) she speaks to the audience in French. Does anyone remember the performance I’m talking about?

I wasn’t a Céline fan during those days, but wow! So cool to know stuff like that is or was out there.

Remember any other lost files from the early file torrent days

Well, oddly, I do not remember any others that have “disappeared”, nor do I remember any other songs from the early English tours era —other than WFTM— that were leaked. The LTAL tour was the most recent tour at the time, and there were only a handful of those songs available. (And we’re not taking about different versions- they were ALL the same.) Most of the songs you could find easily were popular songs she covered.

Bootlegs of concerts were rarely available, unless you knew someone. Even audio files from officially released concerts were difficult to track down (cut songs from LAP, Memphis, and ACDS). Your best luck was to make friends with fans in the (old) forum and share songs and videos via AIM, because the users on the fileshare programs who had the most rare stuff would not stay online very long -or they would block people from downloading the files (hoarders).

Some of the more popular “rare” songs found on the fileshare platforms during the late 90s :

• Everything I Do (Millenium Concert)

• Water from the Moon (Live)

• Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word

• Tears in Heaven

• Because

• Wind Beneath My Wings

• Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

• Papa Don’t Preach

• Over the Rainbow

• That’s What Friends Are For

There WAS one fan website that would post rare videos —but only 30 second clips— because apparently it was too time consuming to post the entire video. Their updates were really infrequent, and the clips were so frustratingly short that it’s laughable now :lmao: I do not miss those times!

It wasn’t until 2003 or so that I discovered how to rip audio from videos, but back then there weren’t a lot of streaming videos. Once YouTube came around I chucked all my old scratched CDs and grainy VHS; but I wish I hadn’t. I had some extended clips from awards shows, talk shows, ET promo clips, commercials, etc...

Was it the full version of That’s What Friends Are For?

Do you think the video for If walls could talk was shot entirely in front of a green screen?

I really want to hear this in live again

This is the example on why sound quality matters

We can hear mono and stereo difference here

Mostly, all old videos of Céline that we see on YouTube are on mono

Mono sounds too forward

Stereo sounds wider and resonates more

You’re right, it sounds like we’re in the room with her! More videos should be like that.
