PuraVida Posted September 13, 2020 at 10:14 AM Posted September 13, 2020 at 10:14 AM I hate it. The single worst singing moment of Céline’s career. I don’t like her diction issues and the bedroom voice overload...but still this is so unique. It feels to me like she is in her closet singing a song she loves just like the rest of us, and I can hear how emotional this song is to her herself. And from :36 - :56 in particular is the part I keep humming. I like the lyrics there and the dynamics Quote

smw Posted September 15, 2020 at 07:13 PM Posted September 15, 2020 at 07:13 PM (edited) I’ve allowed myself to get sucked into the vortex of the comments section of this video. And it hasn’t been a healthy journey!! The Lambs seem to think bc Mariah dominated the Hot 100 in the 90s, that she was clearly THE queen of the vocal trinity. They don’t care about worldwide success or, even worse, some claim Mariah is even a more successful worldwide artist than Celine. It’s exhausting. Those fans are scary and cut throat and they live in a false reality. They can’t understand that the US hot 100 is one piece of the overall picture that monitors overall success... There’s also album sales, charts outside of the US, concert ticket sales, etc. Lambs also claim that “no one cares” that Celine has hit singles in other languages during this same time. Do they think the world begins and ends with the United States? Go post, Celine fans!! Edited September 15, 2020 at 07:16 PM by smw 1 Quote

smw Posted September 15, 2020 at 10:51 PM Posted September 15, 2020 at 10:51 PM They’re delusional as always It’s frustrating, because I try to school them with actual concrete facts but then I’m bombarded with delusional lies. However, I still think it’s worth posting from time to time with actual facts about Celine instead of remaining quiet and letting them win (in their brains, at least). There are some middle-of-the-road, normal ppl in the comments who just enjoy learning the facts about Celine instead of being brainwashed by the extreme cuckoo Mariah fans (not all of them, of course, but many of the ones who show up on these YT videos are legit bananas.) I would agree with you IF Celine fans didn't act in the exactly same way. There are patetic people on both sides. It's about time to realize the Celine and Mariah are both big worldwide artists, with iconic status, each one of them with impressive numbers in different areas and, more importantly, both today struggling to find a new space in an industry that undermine their work just because of their ages. 2 Quote

I hear you... & I’m a fan of Celine, Whitney, & Mariah — but what I see in the YouTube comments across pretty much all of the “vocal trinity” videos definitely showcases more cut throat Mariah fans than Celine fans... spouting a bunch of nonsense. I try to take Michelle Obama’s approach... “when they go low, we go high”, but it’s not easy with these ppl! Quote

I was a fan at that time and her videos were played on MTV Europe /Germany (unlike Celine's/ until today). But yes, it's sad to see that MC and WH Fans (in the US) have no knowlegde about Celine's French /worldwide career.A good example is Think Twice. Why wasn't it a hit in the US? IIRC, she only has one #1 hit at European Hot 100 chart, and it is a cover (Without You). Hero and My All both were not that high in mainland Europe, and slightly higher in the UK. She did dominate the US and Japan. However, Celine was also very popular in Japan. Overall, Celine was definetely more popular than Mariah worldwide. And I do believe Celine was more popular than Whitney. And still is. Edited September 19, 2020 at 12:55 PM by Ukrfan 1 Quote

She opened the door for Mariah and Celine. My first WH song: One moment in time (from the Olympic Games in Seoul 1988) Mariah's peak : 1993-1995 Like Whitney, her videos were played on MTV and she influenced so many others singers. My first MC song: Without you Celine's peak: 1996-1999 Celine has never been a cool and hip MTV artist. The first time I heard her voice was in the early 90s, on a Sony compilation with Soft Rock ballads (called Kuschelrock). The song was WDMHBN. But I wasn't a fan until MHWGO. VH1 played the video on Christmas 1997 and the rest is history. Edited September 19, 2020 at 01:56 PM by comingback Quote

It's better than The Power of Love. To be honest, I don’t like your example. I think songs doings better in certain countries is more of an art than a science. Who knows why? It’s very possible that Sony didn’t push certain songs hard enough in certain markets. Why was WDMHBN and IYAMT a huge hit in the US—both reached #4– and proved way less popular in the UK. A lot of Mariah’s fans are way younger, so we can excuse the young for ignorance. But I think the fans of course know about Celine’s French career. It’s not like anyone was shocked when she sang in 2015 at the BBMAs for the Paris disaster. Knowing about it is one thing. Being able to name specific songs or appreciate it is another. Edit: besides, many notable American artists are more famous in Europe or elsewhere than in the states. Tina Turner is probably the best example Edited September 19, 2020 at 07:10 PM by PuraVida Quote

Céline RO Posted September 20, 2020 at 07:01 PM Posted September 20, 2020 at 07:01 PM (edited) Tonight, I stumbled across a clip of this beautiful performance of “Beauty and the Beast” from Montreal, 18 February 2020. After the ‘Céline Access’ channel (which had bootleg from this show) got taken down I thought I had lost this forever. Finding this, along with other performances from this show, made my day! PuraVida Posted September 22, 2020 at 03:18 AM Posted September 22, 2020 at 03:18 AM It's my #1 Celine song. I know I'm in the minority on this in a big way, but for me it's probably my least favorite of her hit songs. Save for a couple performances of it in the late 1990s, I get really bored with the song. I like that people enjoy it's tenderness, but it fails to grab me. 2 Quote
