Do we have the two performances that they reference at the end of this video? Celine performed Christmas Song and something else for Larry King in 2007? (Or maybe they showed videos of her in Vegas..?)

Thanks Tiago! They also mentioned The Christmas Song, which somehow I couldn't find before. Here it is. Don't think I've ever seen it! Apparently it's live...not sure about the original key though

:sofunny: it's definitely live, "mistletoes and tater tots"

see! it’s lipped but she’s really singing. Look how it matches the vibrato and the movement of her neck. You can’t do that without singing for real

that’s why on tours (remember my last post about it) when pre recorded starts kicking in she still sings. Maybe again for tech difficulties

I don't wanna sound like a jerk, but this is completely irrelevant.

In any case, there are so many ways to pretend to sing with vibrato, it doesn't mean that she's hitting the note in real life. Also, I don't believe that singers who playback are fully silent behind the mic. If I remember well, there was a time when Mariah was singing Beautiful, she heard the playback in her ear, but the audience could listen to the feed of her mic, and you could hear her make very weird noises. I think it's easier for singers to sing a little along with the playback to make it look real.

Here's the TV ad for Live à l'Olympia, featuring extremely rare video footage from the show.

Well, i already gave an example before that proves that she is singing while lipping before. No wonder when lipping i can still see her neck and veins moving and poppin.

If you don’t buy that. No problem. :)

Don't go off the Foster documentary for anything regarding songs being lipped or not - pretty much every performance clip is dubbed in the documentary, for all featured artists. And quite badly, too.

Sure. I don’t care if she lipped on that one night event. It’s ok. And it’s just an example like this one to prove that on tours even if she’s lipping to a pre recorded track on certain songs she is still singing. Looking at her neck and poppin veins and vibrato breathing on her chest when singing to pre recorded track. Again, maybe for tech difficulties? If the pre recorded track didn’t work?

But it must be a lot easier to mime if you continue singing. So she probably still sings but she don't have to really think about hitting the notes correct.

I think the greatest example to demonstrate is vienna i drove all night. I think she sings underneath but it's not necessarily "real singing" it's more so that she is using those muscles to mimic the movement singing if she were performing live.

Her mic is always on, but the volume is lower. Very obious at I wish in a new day there are a couple of live adlibs and the mic volume is off. I drove all night from the tcwt bostreal show features her yelling the word "yeah" where her mic volume is obviously on but lowered (if you listen real carefully the crowd is heard loudly in that 1 second clip as it was legit audio not dubbed for that 1 second). Tpol ending exclamation is also an example.

With vienna the playback fail allows us to more easily hear what is going on when the track isn't playing despite ber volume being lowered.

This also happened with iacbtmn a couple years ago for like 2 words at the beginning but was quickly fixed.

Also her performance of TPOL in Ottawa last year (the night where she is still sick) the sound guy combined the pre recorded track and her live voice which sounded great.

I always thought that she lips the hard parts in order to save her voice. That’s why I don’t get why she still sings underneath the playback.

So she can say it is all "live," even though she knows the fans expect a show that may be better quality than she is able to give at certain times is my guess.

The 2 final videos shows that she sings even when its a lipped track, the i surrender one seems to be like her mic was not opened

Actually, the IACBTMN, she can sing this properly. Remember her soundcheck in London last year? It sounded amazing!

I think her voice was like that since it's "pre recorded" time lol (Las Vegas show Lipped glitch)

I wish I could hear Celine singing this song, preferably in her 80s days, sounds like something she might have recorded. I think maybe I remember her singing the lines “voyage voyage” in an interview or tv show somewhere

It’s to not be caught completely and totally in case the sound person fails. And I’m sure it makes it look much more believable.

But it’s not real singing, it’s like singing 30% of the effort and volume, therefore still preserving her voice because, to draw an analogy, it’s almost like in the speaking range of a normal voice ie requiring no strain
