Exactly! And no one would really like it. Understanding that you’ve really made it if such a huge shows like SNL is lampooning you is one thing but being forced to watch it is another. At least she was a good enough sport about the whole thing to invite Ana G to her tour; however, it’s also flipping the tables and making Ana lampoon her to her face...on her turf...her stage!

I wish she had this much energy singing this song nowadays. It seems like she’s holding back and only putting effort into singing the less performed songs like TLBSEPT, YTV or the uptempo medley.

Well, you have to remember that at the time she sang ABM here; it had not been performed since the Millennium Concert. So you can compare that energy to the lesser performed songs you mentioned.

Oh lucky you! I know I have HBO channels, but don't know how to cross that over online...I'll have to see. Because no one on the "free" internet would have seen those other Ana skits of Celine for years, I imagine.

 

Damn, nvm. I have seasons 1-5 and 30-45, but all the Celine skits are in other seasons. Maybe someday they'll add them (its Hulu, btw, not HBO).

The MHWGO humming actually doesn’t bother me that much. It’s strange because I’m usually the one who insists she perform her songs as close to the original as possible.

• When Garth Brooks/Chris Gaines hosted in ‘99, Céline sang the Theme song for the “Smurfs Movie”.

 

•There was a “Gentiles singing Hanukkah Songs” sketch in ‘99 or ‘00 with Mariah (Cheri Oteri), Céline (Ana), and Britney (I wanna say the host, Christina Ricci, played her?)

 

• My personal favourite was the episode Jennifer Love Hewitt hosted (in late 1998, I think). Céline had an informercial for her new album: “More Duets to Prove That I am the Best Singer in De World”. She sang with Meatloaf, Jewel, REM, Busta Rhymes, and Nat & Natalie Cole. (Mind you, this was before “All the Way”, so it was rather prophetic for her to sing a virtual duet with a legend via B&W video!)

 

SNL had some great spoofs of her. I hope these will see the light of day again. I got rid of the tapes because I foolishly thought they’d be available in HD on streaming some day

 

MadTV has some good ones too, that I’ve posted before

I think Celine is super fun for comics because they rarely get the chance to imitate a French-speaking person, let alone a Quebec accent.

 

"Jimmy crack the corn and I don't care..." from that first skit And the use of "you know" seems constant across all skits

 

All of the divas had something to make fun of. Whitney and her bravada and, sadly, drug use... Mariah's dressing style and her big big hair and precious airs...and Celine's kookiness, cultural lack of awareness, and sentimentality lol.

I actually did the duet one myself in a school talent show in 2002. I just spliced together clips of the original songs, and left enough space on the tape for the dialogue. Haha.

 

 

There was also the skit they did for Divas Live ‘99 where they were promoting a fake product “Diva In A Can.”

 

I never liked the MadTV Celine skits. Nobody ever really got her right.
