Somebody at Sony really doesn't want Celine to have that number 1 album......

 

I doubt it’s Sony. Media outlets already had it for review purposes, and many of those don’t have great security protocols. All it takes is one disgruntled employee.

It's ridiculous that some can ruin an artists hard work, and experience for others.

 

Calm down people, only the die hard fans on this forum had access to the leak and will buy both the standard and the deluxe edition on its release day anyway, because we are collectors and want the physical versions! Don’t think that anyone out there apart of us even knows about this.

I've decided not to listen to the album untill it's released officially, but I'm very interested to read everyone's impressions. It's like getting mini-teasers to build up the excitement, so keep them coming, please!

I feel the same. While I don't agree with the leak each person has to make their decision about listening. It's one thing to get the leaked version and not buy/steam it and then to listen to the leaked version while still buying or streaming. I will be waiting until the official release date but am reading the opinions of others on songs. I always enjoy to see what everyone thinks.

I don't know if you're trying to justify yourself out of guilt, but if that's the reason, don't feel guilty. It's not your fault or the fans' that the album was leaked, it's okay if you couldn't resist to listening it.

 

But don't justify leaking. It's never okay. It's illegal, and I don't care what that sir says, it still causes damage.

Well UKMIX Forum has the news too, so is not diehard fans only who know about it. It might not hurt Celine as much as others since she is mostly a physical album seller. But if this would have happened to a younger artist like Ariana or Selena would have probably meant a change of plans and probably move the release day. It also hurt Madonna badly with her previous album, so we’ll see…

As someone who works at a major label, I can assure you that the last thing an artist or their team wants is for years of their work and months of meticulous launch preparations and marketing prep to be thrown off the rails like this. So no, everything is not under control.

I just want to make a survey to understand why some of us are so impatient that we can't wait for 12 more days and why others are patient and can wait these 12 more days ^^ Is it about age also? I could try to compare that at first. Maybe the old ones (like me) know that life is short... And that we can die tomorrow. Or in 13 days, so if we wait 12 days it's 12 days we lose

 

By the way I'm so impatient for example that I bought Amsterdam tickets just because they were the first ones to be sold ahahah. Now I regret it a bit because I would prefer go to the first European date in Prague ^^

Many acts today hardly sell any physical copies so their labels won’s ship many copies until closer to the release day. I think this is how it happened and not because Celine’s team, but who knows.

Overall, this album sounds sooooo modern and "very now." And very cohesive. It starts out with a very modern feel then towards the end, it gets a bit gospel-y/blues/standard. There are a few parts that's distracting because of her weird diction/pronunciations. But that's already nitpicking.

 

I've ranked the songs based on my preference.

 

[ ] Courage

[ ] Imperfections

[ ] Nobody's Watching - very infectious and I can already imagine a music video for this. This and Change My Mind sound like Eurovision songs. And that's a good thing for me as Eurovision in recent years has produced the best modern songs out there. I'm living for the beat during the refrain. And like others have said it has a 90s reggae feel but only "modernized"

[ ] Change My Mind - the last part is insane! It's more of a scream already but still sounds sooo good. Can anybody here tell us what not she was hitting there?

[ ] Flying On My Own

[ ] Look At Us Now - I really love the texture of her voice here especially the low register. And her voice here is full of reverb which I like because several songs that come before this all sound dry, which isn't working for this paeticular album. The "dry" approach might have worked in LMBTL, but not here.

[ ] Perfect Goodbye - this is also a great song. There's a part that reminds me of Taylor Swift's Wildest Dreams

[ ] Lying Down

[ ] How Did You Get Here - i like the rasp in her voice here and reminds me of an Aretha/gospel song. Plus the "oooh oohh" part reminds me of her If I Could Dream with Elvis

[ ] The Chase - the first part reminds me of Thank You from LMBTL, then as the chorus kicks in, the drum beat reminds me of Reach by Gloria

[ ] I Will Be Stronger - this reminds me also of an Aretha/gospel/Adele song

[ ] Baby - just an average song, too repetitive

[ ] Lovers Never Die - this is a well produced song but I guess this type of sound is not my cup of tea. However I lover the parts where her voice kind of "breaks" /squeaks..

[ ] Falling In Love Again - i expected much from this given how skylar set this up with her story but the song is just plain for me

[ ] Say Yes - this is the weakest of the liz rodrigues songs - refrain reminds me again of a part in Thank You

[ ] For The Lover I Lost - i feel this is just one of Sam Smith's leftovers. I just wish he submitted a stronger song

I can't believe the album leaked so early... Obviously I won't be capable of waiting 15 more days now that the album is on my iPhone

 

P.S.: At least the bonus tracks didn't leak yet XD

Physical is such a minor revenue stream now that even major labels outsource it to 3rd parties because it makes no financial sense for them to do it in-house. And every time you do that, you increase the number of people involved in the supply chain. All it takes is one bad apple.

 

Now, Celine is much more of a physical and download artist than a vast majority of a major label's roster, so she'll be disproportionately hurt by leaks like this.

Wow. I can't believe what I'm reading from you. You might just be one of the most entitled people I've seen on this forum. "Life being too short" is not at all a valid reason to leak the album that Celine and her team put so much hard work and effort into. It's not about you. Celine was probably so excited about the album finally being released, and people like you are ruining it for the rest of the fans. But apparently you're too old to wait patiently for the album. Taylors album got send to big stores two weeks before it’s release and someone leaked pics from the back of the album... fans think it was someone from target who leaked it

The songs got leaked one or two days before it’s release

 

So they could have send Courage to the stores already and someone who Works at a store leaked it...

This is the most likely scenario, after the possibility of a "staged" leak or someone leaking it from the inside.

I don’t think that this album is coherent at all. There is this strange mix between EDM (FOMO), British Amy Winehouse beats, some Aretha Franklin vibes, and piano ballads, some country. It might be lyrically coherent, but musically not so much. It’s like Celine said: a roller coaster.

Wow I have to say that IT'S NOT ME who leaked the album, "life being too short" is about listening to it. If the leak was not made by Céline's team I am really sorry for that but first it's not me who leaked the album, second I never posted anything about the songs without spoilers. I just tried to be kind to those who wanted to hear it without hurting too much those who didn't want to. Your words are very hard and it makes me feel really sad.

I agree. This could mean at least 15-20% less sales and that could be a big difference on the charts. I was afraid of Adele, never of the album leaking two weeks before. It happened to Taking Chances, but back then it happened to everyone so all artists were equally hurt. Two-three days before the album release is normal now, but someone really don’t like Celine to do this. What I can’t believe is that so called fans like the Red Heads were promoting it had leaked on Facebook! One thing is that you have it and enjoy it yourself and other is spreading the word.
