Exactly.

Some around here have a very hard time coming to terms with the fact that perhaps she doesn't want to do all those things you want & expect from her.

Perhaps she doesn't want to be on a never-ending promo tour anymore. Or living on planes and in hotels for a year while on a global tour. Or missing Halloween with the kids to do some TV special. Whatever.

Why is it so hard to understand that maybe, just maybe, she likes doing Vegas and having some semblance of a normal routine in her life?

The woman's been working since the age of 13, and pretty much working non-stop for much of that time. All this talk about how "she should do this" or "she needs to do that" to get back on radio / charts or whatever is just silly. Y'all seem much more preoccupied with such frivolities than she is at this stage in her life. She has said on a number of occasions that she's doing what she loves and doesn't feel the need to prove herself anymore. So let the woman live her life and carry on her career how she sees fit. Clearly her priorities are not what they were 20 years ago.

Amen!

No point blaming the Vegas shows and contract for Celine not doing certain things. Who says she’d have done all those other projects instead?? If she wants to do something she will. Especially during this second Vegas show. The first one was far too many shows per year imo, to be able to do much else. Really annoys me when people assume they know what she’d be doing or have done instead. Mind readers clearly- didn’t realise Mystic Meg was on here! 😂

Let's not forget that when you are 50, you are not building your career... you just want to enjoy what you do as much as possible.

And Céline seems to be enjoying it. And she seems to be enjoying recording her new album at her own pace rather than with a whip to get it out as fast as possible. In the past I'm sure she often heard the "Quick, quick, we don't have time for xyz... this needs to be out by November!"

That's very nice when read and written but let's see how it all fits when trying to understand why the next DVD that was filmed and won't be released, the next bombastic single that won't ever be picked as a single nor ever performed on TV or in concert but instead a cover will be chosen and then the album will be torn to pieces both by critics and fans and won't chart anywhere because of this lack of credibility with the covers... Then I'll come back and quote this post you wanted to pin. And that's because she has a record label that sucks and for whom she has been lacking support since ages.

Nothing to do with priorities here, nor with age, nor with anything that has been said but with having a good team of people who cares to put your work in the best place it deserves... or sistematically ignore it, as it's been the case since 2007.

I'm talking about not having a DVD of the great 2016/2017 tours, or a continuation of TCS album to be released in the long years she spent in Vegas singing but not releasing any new music, while the public was wondering for her whereabouts, or why Sony Music releases 10 times the same collection of three albums in countless repackaged combinations, but never cares to offer something new, or why she's one of the latest biggest stars in their catalogue who hasn't had her albums remastered and re-released in decent sound quality (the Unison CD SUCKS on some tracks), or why she hasn't had her albums released on vinyl when every single artist is having their catalogue released on the format since years ago...

And we could fill pages with this list. Don't tell me this is because "her priorities have changed" because that only makes laugh  (and it's even embarrassing to say it at this point).

There are many thorn trees surrounding this debate and I'm not trying to deviate the discussion now from Vegas or anything (see? I don't blame Vegas for everything), but now that the "priorities" excuse was mentioned, I just can't help but bringing back the old "record label" issue that is between Céline and Sony Music in this regard, which has A LOT to do with why we see some things that have not worked out or haven't got the results they were expected to get.

Good gracious! I had to shake my head when reading that page from For Keeps! Thanks for posting. I had almost forgotten about all that. Geez, it even hurts to see what she said 13 years ago and yet 13 frigging years later NOTHING of that has come to reality    Not any movie, nor the jazz, unplugged and crossed mixed styles, album nor the Spanish-language album, not a song written and recorded by her... nothing!

See where my hatred and frustration against Vegas comes from? You got all the answers in the chapter of that book. Vegas is the answer to why she hasn't done anything of those plans and dreams and projects. Maybe not in a direct way but either indirectly or just ultimately, because her show schedule interferred with the timing to do other plans, Vegas was the obstacle in between. Her commitments with that residency is what always put her off from doing any other projects or eventually cancelling them.

There's where she says she wants to record a full Spanish album too

I insist she just got so comfortable and settled with Caesars Palace. But what I fear the most now is that she no longer has those dreams and projects inside her. It's been ages since she doesn't talk about any of these anymore :confused1:

And what we got instead, 13 years later since that interview? 1,200 clone shows one an exact copie of the other year after year, and ocassionally, a studio album that goes almost unnoticed every 5 years now...

The only thing that has thrown some brightness to this is -thankfully- her French albums, but besides that... it's so shameful to read that page of the book and see that nothing of what she wanted to do has been done... 13 years later

Now I ask... 15 years of Vegas... Isn't that enough already? Hasn't it drained away enough of her ambitions and projects already? She needs to put an end to it, before it definitely buries her and all her passions and the voice she has left.

we are missing many things

- Unison - Anniversary edition, unreleased tracks, demos, remixes and the DVD with 10 ans déjà, and the music videos

- Celine Dion - Special edition, with leftovers, b-sides, music videos and remixes

- TCOML - Special edition with a full concert, not the tv special

- FIY - Tour on DVD, behind the senses, remixes, music videos.....

- LTAL - Special edition with left overs and remixes and English version of the tour on DVD

- ANDHC - the TV Special on DVD and have you ever been in love in spanish :P

- OH - i don't know what we can expect about left-overs to OH, but they have remixes :P

- TC - Special edition - with all left overs

- Olympia - DVD

I agree with you, and some points that Javito has.

I think Vegas gives her the stability she wants and needs. But in between that, she could easily fulfill her "careerdreams" and maybe our "dreamwhishes"

But my guess is that when it comes to make certain albums in a specific genre Sony is the one who says NO.

Especially since she is in high demand now.

The way she has Vegas and small tours every year works for me, and for her.

But musically yeah I wish that she would do what she dreams of.

Yes the For Keeps interview is a long time ago. But the mention of "I love D'elles and I am sad I didn't performed it much"

"I want to do an tour called "Unknown" hasn't been that long ago.

You can change priorities, but I think that a few of these dreams are still there.

And some of it we seen during the past tours, complete newsetlists.

But when she does that and change nothing in Vegas I understand why people don't understand what is going on there.

It really is 1 step forward, 2 steps back.

Exactly.

Wouldn't a jazz album almost certainly contain a lot of:

a ) Covers

b ) 'Bedroom voice'

??

Jazz doesn't automatically mean bedroom voice. Look at Blue Christmas, Bewitched, At Last and Nature Boy.. so clear and well controlled. And it works so fine.

It's a lot about production and having a brave producer who dares to tell her when that raspyness does and does not lift a part of a song.

Where is that jazz album fantasy coming from?

I mean on the vegas topic everybody is whining about the jazz segment.

My wish is that Céline makes her artistic wishes come true. "U&U tour : unknown and unplugged". Not for the project itself but to read the reactions here. Only a few nights in a small venue. 😂

A war full of complains.

To be honest the "jazz segment" in the Vegas show isn't that good, even though I am a jazz lover.

Um, not everybody.

I happen to love it, and it's the main reason I went to see the show and main reason I'd go to see it again.

Exactly...and if I had experienced a long cancer battle with my husband and lost him...lost my brother...perhaps my life's goals and dreams would change and become more focused on family and other things as well. Some life experiences truly have a way of shaking us up and changing life's plans. Doesn't make it right or wrong...life just happens and we have to make day to day decisions on what is right and best for us, for our family, at that very moment. It doesn't mean we will regret not accomplishing past year's dreams and goals because I think our dreams and goals can easily change based on life circumstances.

LOL, I don't even remember my wishlist 13 years ago, though I regret I never write it on a journal or something.

Yeah but you seems to love "at last" which is one of her worst covers... I mean not the song itself but from a jazz point of view, they managed to turn it into a pop song... almost.

Her version is not jazz in its true sense no you are so right about that. But it's an old school track. And she takes it on superbly. Does it true justice....

Wish I could say the same thing about HDYKTMP.... the live version is very fine but the studio turned into something horrible compared to the live version. So sad they went kinda R&B with that. It doesn't do her nor the song justice.... It's strange how a song sung very well live can loose its soul so much when she records it as a single.

Same goes for TSMGO as I mentioned and also with Ne Me Quitte Pas - although not as much as HDYKTMP or TSMGO. NMQP is still enjoyable in its studio version but 80 % of its soul got lost in the studio for some odd reason. The live verson is sooooo sooo good! What a shame we didn't get a live recording of it instead....

HDYKTMP, TSMGO, NMQP all got bad in the studio version. Even Open Arms lost a lot of it's bombasticness, power and clearity - even though I must say I kind of think the Coldplay-ish take on the studio version is quite refreshing. But the way it ends so quickly makes it sound a bit rushed through.

I used to love Céline recording covers, they had so much soul and often another level than her "original tracks". You could feel she felt the songs and had a history with them. But lately her covers (mostly studio) have become extremely flat. They feel as if she just wants them over and done with. What's the deal with that? Tired of the song after done it live for a while? Needing better production? Now I no longer want her to record covers since these past years (with At Seventeen as an exception - what an amazing recording, here the soul is back, this song is truly felt!) the covers all made me disapointed compared to what is performed live and thereby know what she is capable of dilevering.

I like jazz and I think Celine may surprise us all with a jazz album someday.

BUT now I really want fresh news from the new English album she's finishing... :w00t:

Justin Timberlake is releasing a new album and Lady Gaga will also release a new one this year. So many artists and so few relevant collaborations!

In I want an album with Folk songs from the southeast of the Falkland Islands.

That will NEVER happen.

Maybe for a single reason: Because Celine Dion has her own style. And because she's is not a radio that you can program.

Celine will - always and always - do it right again.
