It's an interesting point. In one of the interviews she gave at the Billboards this year (skip to 5:26 in the video below) she actually says "I will sing more of my songs. I don't know if it's a good thing for you, but for me it is." Arrrrgghhhhh who has been telling her that people who come to her shows DON'T want to hear HER songs!!???? Of course fans who buy tickets for her concerts want to hear songs from, you know, the albums that they have bought! There is always room for covers and tribute sections etc but the majority of the show should be Celine songs. I'm delighted they are addressing this situation.

And it makes me laugh when people moan about the vocals on LILV cd but then moan the dvd wasn't released! You'd just be moaning about the vocals on the dvd too.

I know everyone is entitled to their opinion on here,but there are times this forum gets on my tits.

 

Just letting you know, I want the DVD for its visuals more than the vocals. I got to see the original DVD one night at The Colosseum when Celine got sick and canceled on the night of a show I was to see. I loved seeing the visuals for "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face," the sight of Celine walking down the dancers' backs during "Fever," the black and white images of the audience while "What A Wonderful World" was performed, and the English translation of "Et je t'aime encore" being revealed on the screen while Celine sang it. Furthermore, I enjoyed the placement of "I Drove All Night" at the end instead of it being towards the beginning of the show. Also, it would be nice to have a performance of "Have You Ever Been In Love" on a DVD, great vocals or not. So, I hate to break it to you, but your assumption about me was pretty inaccurate.

It's a shame that Celine's shows only contain songs that she has previously done in her tours/residencies, or songs from her latest album at the time. The only time she added an old song that had never been done in a previous tour was when 'The Prayer' was added during the TCWT in 2008 (although she had already performed the song live before in one-off shows for TV).

I have a great feeling for this concert..... They are defiantly more in contact with the fans recently..... They seem to be listening and so far since Aldo has been the manager we have had little to complain about.... True she hasn't been about too much lately but the little things seem to be be better.....

 

They are defiantly connecting with the fans via social networking now...... I'm sure the new management is looking at what we want and I think we really appreciate it .... I think that is true by Celine actually saying she will sing more of her own songs.... That's what all the fans have wanted....

Not me! I would MUCH rather hear her do something I haven't already heard on record. That's why I go to see my favourite artists in concert - to hear them do something new, unexpected. This is particularly true in the case of Celine because, frankly, I feel ~70% of her English material is a complete waste of an amazing talent. Love her voice, lover her approach, her personality, her French material.... but so much of the English stuff is just so BLAND and derivative. There are so many great songs out there - whether obscure or songbook classics - that she could do brilliant things with. She has such amazing range - and I mean stylistically, not just vocally. She's really one of the few people out there who can convincingly sing pretty much any genre. I would love to see that range on full display. I'd love to see more covers.

 

And, I have to say, I've always been heartbroken about the fact that these Vegas shows include a mere ONE French song. That just makes me sad. So much of why I love Celie is for the French material - and I should mention that French is my third language so it's not like I grew up with it. I just wish that (stellar!) side of her career - which is so clearly in her blood, given how differently she interprets songs in French vs. English - is so sadly neglected. I know this is highly unlikely to happen, but I wish they could do, say, one designated "mostly French" show/ week. That way all the Quebecois/ French/ fans like myself could choose to attend on that particular evening. I don't see myself making a trip out to Vegas to see this English show - I might, if I happen to be headed that way for some other reason or have extra vacation time on my hands! - but I would certainly go the extra mile to see a French show. And I suspect there are enough Francophone fans out there to make it worthwhile.

It'd be smart to still have at least one song from LOVED ME BACK TO LIFE. She can still, technically, call it her new album so audience can go out and buy a copy after the concert. Perhaps INCREDIBLE will remain.

 

I'd be curious about I Surrender and Water and a Flame. I think the songwriter/original performer for WAAF, Daniel Merriweather, kind of killed the excitement Celine had for that song, unfortunately. It's a shame because she really seemed excited about it. So I'm not sure she would want to include it in the setlist and allow that guy to get more money. Who knows, though. She seemed to really like Eg White so maybe that's enough. Regardless, we have a few performances of that song including a GREAT performance from the Edison Ballroom, at least. I'm usually happy to have at least ONE recorded live performance of a song. That's why I keep suggesting a one-night-only concert (they could even do it in Vegas!) where Celine is recorded singing some of her more rare material. Then it live on tape forever. And I'll be satisfied.

 

I Surrender was such a staple of A New Day... that I'm not sure it would be included either. But it's certainly one of Celine's best English songs so we shall see!

 

Granted, A New Day Has Come was certainly a staple of the original Vegas show as well BUT I think there's a real possibility that they would include the mid-tempo version of the song in the new show.

 

Going on a tangent...

I'll never forget the first time I saw A New Day... in Vegas. That opening was POWERFUL. With the giant mirror, everyone's laughing and having fun, then the lights go out, the glass shatters, and the dramatic beginning to A New Day Has Come begins to play. LOVED THAT OPENING! The DVD does not capture how powerful that was.

I think the songs, To Love You More, A New Day Has Come, I m Alive, Thats the way it is, declaration of love and The Power of the Dream has strengths to be included in the show, I think Incredible remain at least I wanted this song on the show, see what people liked. What were the duets did not want, not who does not like them, the more they in the show is boring, do not like the celine singing with Barnev, it sounds boring to me, if only I had a virtual duet put Im your angel.
