"Broadway Loves Celine Dion"

Interesting interview with some Titanique folks - Tye Blue (co-creator & director) and Courtney Basset (who normally plays Elise but also subs in for Marla as Celine and occasionally for other characters).

Interestingly, Tye says that in addition to people in Celine's orbit who have seen the show (we know David Foster, John Nelson, Pepe, her publicist...others to come), Tye also went to Vegas and "met with her people" who "were very appreciative Titanique is lifting up her brand in a way we can't right now, while she's unable to perform". (~15 minutes in)

Who is her publicist and who are her people? We need names lol. I wonder if he meant Elise and her husband. @16:22

I suspect he might mean Jim Allison and Shari Weber?

Yeah you would know better than me

It's weird -- her team is so in love with Titanique and so thankful for others continuing her legacy....as if they have no power to do the exact same thing. Dig into the vaults and release some stuff you imbeciles! :angry2:

Right? Or at least get someone semi-competent to run her social media. It really wouldn't take much.

Yeah, it's strange. Maybe it's beacuse Celine is supposed to be the one calling the shots right now? But she's not in a position to do so... So there's really no one able to call the shots? I don't know. She has those two managers... but I'm not sure they think about things outside of covering logistics.

I mean, do we really think she was the one calling the shots when they uploaded that MHWGO Alternate Music Video...or updated her sales for the LTAL album, etc, etc.? It is so beyond frustrating. Side note, Tye mentioned David Foster -- someone needs to get him to release stuff from his archives.

Edit: It doesn't even have to be stuff we haven't seen. Imagine if they uploaded her Unison live concert release in remastered quality. The full concert. Ugh, would be such a gift!

I just got back from Broadway Sings Celine Dion and OMG it was so, so, so good! If any of you happen to be in NYC in September, when they're doing an encore performance, I highly recommend.

The venue was full and bursting at the seams. Mostly millennial audience (like, 90% millennial, 5% Gen X,5% Gen Z), and mostly male. They had a stellar 12-piece band (including string and horn section) and a bunch of singers from current Broadway shows.

I expected a sort of Celine karaoke from professional theatre singers, but oh, that's not what it was. Excellent singing, yes, but these were decidedly not the tired old Celine arrangements. All these songs sounded completely different, covered a plethora of different genres, and the arrangements breathed so much new life into each song.

MHWGO was metal. Taking Chances was jazz, ABM was blues, complete with slide guitar. Some of these arrangements worked better than others, but all were very interesting and I loved what they did with the material. The only songs that were quite similar in arrangement to the originals were BATB and Calling You.

Saw Tye Blue (Titanique creator) and Eva Price (producer of & Juliet, Titanique, Jagged Little Pill & more) in the audience. Marla Mindelle was there (in character as Celine) to provide comic relief between songs. And it was clear from all these performances that Broadway kids really, really love Celine.

Set list (I'm sure more videos will surface):

It's All Coming Back to Me

Taking Chances - https://www.instagra.../p/CvqwykfL7s5/

River Deep, Mountain High

Think Twice

Tell Him - https://www.instagra.../p/CvqtOfaNcIh/

Because You Loved Me

To Love You More

I Surrender

Power of Love

All by Myself

I'm Alive/ If You Asked Me To / MHWGO (Titanique Medley)

That's the Way It Is - https://www.instagra.../p/CvqsLalvIzU/

Calling You ( my fave and such a cool surprise; Eleri Ward introduced it as "the song she's been doing in every audition for 6 years") https://www.instagra...21965255/?hl=en (clips in stories)

I Drove All Night

Beauty and the Beast

MHWGO

Thank you so much for this review!

I was excited for this event... I hope somehow they record it and release somewhere...

Thanks for the review! I am sure it was a very fun night!

I am not a huge fan of singing Celine in different genres that much. Most of the live clips didn't do it for me...but I am sure the changeup made it very interesting for the live audience. Anyway, so glad Celine is being celebrated :)

I think it was a great idea to mix up the genres... considering everyone would pale in comparison to Celine's versions. I thought this was a lovely and fun tribute -- and I'm glad these musical theater lovers love Celine so much. Great singers tend to admire other great singers. Edited by smw

The Titanique crew did Talks at Google recently and it’s now on YouTube. It’s about an hour but worth a watch / listen. Love how much they all love Céline.

“It’s been our baby for years and it changed our lives”.

They’re “working on new productions in new territories”.

There was another Broadway Sings Céline Dion show last night (which I didn’t go to this time but seems like it was a hoot) plus Titanique has now played 500 shows (almost half-way to Celine’s Vegas count!)

This, the D’Eux tribute show… I so wish she was well enough to see and enjoy all the love people have for her.
