"Broadway Loves Celine Dion"

Yep, Broadway clearly does love Celine Dion!

There are currently two Broadway shows that Celine's music makes an appearance in.

Because You Loved Me is an integral part of a play currently on Broadway called Significant Other.

Here's the cast of the show talking about it and their love of Celine  - fast forward to ~16min - http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/broadway/7751402/billboard-on-broadway-podcast-significant-other-interview

Separately, MHWGO makes an appearance in the newest Broadway hit - Come From Away, the uber-successful Canadian musical about the folks in Newfoundland welcoming travelers stranded in their town as a result of 9/11 (it's the musical that Justin Trudeau took Ivanka Trump to a few weeks ago in a gesture of US-Canada diplomacy...)

And again, here's the cast and crew speaking about the show - the little Celine bit is about ~ 22min into the interview - http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/broadway/7752391/come-from-away-interview-billboard-on-broadway-podcast

From New York Times:

"Does this description make you think of that blockbuster tear-jerker “Titanic” and its wailing theme song “My Heart Will Go On”? The creators of “Come From Away” are way ahead of you. They quote from that number early in the show, when the movie is screened to grounded airline passengers and then later in a karaoke sequence in a Legion hall."

So I saw they play today, and a) thought it was great and b ) BYLM actually plays a pretty important part in it. It shows up twice - once in Act 1 when two characters talk about what their first wedding dance one day should be (and sing some of it), and in the climax/ end scene, when that actually happens, and they play the entire song and continue playing it all through applause and as exit music.

Play is closing on April 23rd so if interested, go now.

And if you haven't listened to the cast interview above, totally worth it just to hear the cast totally gush about Celine (and about how much they love her on The Voice, among other things.)

Yet more proof Celine is definitely having a 'moment'.

Final Bow: Lindsay Mendez Parts With Significant Other — and That's the Way It Is

10. As you know, there is a particular Celine Dion song that factors heavily into the play. What's your personal Celine favorite?

Her version of "

," which is kind of incredible. I guess I have to tie with that one "It's All Coming Back to Me Now," which is so dramatic but amazing. In case you were curious, we do really have many a Celine Dion sing-along. We are obsessed with her. Rebecca Jones and I are always onstage during the end of the play and are always like, "Man, her voice is kind of unmatched." It is so specific and expressive. There's a reason why she's so timeless.

So you're saying people will walk away from Significant Other with a fresh appreciation for Celine Dion.

I do think that's one of the things you come away with. I've had many people be like, "I've had to listen to Celine Dion since I've left the play." If we can send you home with that, we feel happy.

OK, sorry about the multiple posts, but I've gone down a black hole here and keep finding cool stuff!

Voila an interview with one of the show's creators - https://www.manhatta...rody-interview/

It's pretty extensive but here are some excerpts:

"[...] Titanique is essentially a Celine concert where she “marionettes” skits and rewrites the show, so by nature it’s a hybrid piece, but all within the confines, conceptually, of a Celine concert.

[...] I don’t know if the tone is going to fly in New York, but I know that ultimately it’s a love letter to the film and it’s definitely a love letter to Celine and her catalog, so if people like those two then they’re going to love it.

[...] MD: Has the production gotten any attention from Celine Dion herself? Is that something you’re looking to get?

TB: When it’s ready I want to show it to her. My fantasy is we do these one-offs in L.A., we do this run in New York, we get some serious momentum, and then drive everyone from L.A. to Las Vegas and show her the show, bare bones, in a rehearsal studio…I can literally see it happening in my mind, I’ve actually had dreams about standing in a rehearsal studio, looking right in front of Celine and just being like, “This is for you. We wrote this for you. We love you. We would love to have you attached in any way, shape or form. Please enjoy. Ladies and gentlemen: Titanique.”

It’s our dream to be aligned with her on this. I knew she was funny, and I knew that she had a great sense of humor about herself, and when that music video dropped for “Ashes” from Dead Pool 2, that for me was a sign that she is going to love this show and she’s going to want to be a part of it.

MD: So you think you’re going to spin off Titanique tours with this cast, or others?

TB: That would be wonderful. Our goal is to do a full commercial run. We definitely have venues that want to do it.

MD: And it’s certainly economical to produce, voices and some staging, can do it everywhere…it seems like it’s very portable and very sustainable.

TB: Yeah, intentionally low budget because we’re never going to recreate the ship, that’s impossible. So we’re just going in the opposite direction. I envision it as being something with really stunning lights, and I envision Celine’s character changing costumes every single f****** song. Everyone else can just be in rags, for all I’m concerned. It’s all about Celine.

MD: So what are you working on after Titanique, or will you be working on this show for the months to follow?

TB: We have a few offers to do runs of Titanique in L.A. that I’m in the midst of, and there are a couple of other shows and venues that are knocking on my door here. I feel like the fall is going to be about a full production Titanique and where that’s going to be, that’s the next step for me.

MD: So Titanique has a lot of growth left in it, you’re not gonna just turn to another jukebox musical or anything like that.

TB: Ooh. Child, no! Titanique is absolutely my passion project and I wholeheartedly believe that it’s worth all of my free time right now. So until, until it’s really like on its feet, and and and experiences a whole run, I won’t rest."

"“One of my favorite things about Céline is that even if she’s not right, you end up believing her, because she’s just so genuine and passionate about everything she explains,” says co-creator Mindelle, who takes on the role of the Canadian pop diva. “We have Céline telling the story of how she thought it happened on the ship, and everyone is just like, ‘OK, Céline Dion, we love you and you’re fierce and you’re a diva, so we’re just going to go along with this and get lost in the journey.”"

No. Thanks.

the thing is , people don't take her enough seriously. The minute it turns her into a joke, i feel they don't understand. You have to feel. And it is serious business. to feel is a talent . Edited by québecflower

It seems Greem Room 42 has a thing for Celine.

The venue hosted Titanique here in NYC, and it looks like they've got another Celine tribute show tomorrow night: https://web.ovationtix.com/trs/pe.c/10342334

"Celine Dion is the epitome of a true Diva: fierce and fearless musical prowess, pipes like a well-tuned locomotive with the performance precision of a diamond-crusted sabre. Marty Thomas Presents is pleased to showcase an homage to the daring Diva herself in an evening of her timeless classics."

Tye Blue, producer of Titanique the Musical (among other things) is out in Vegas and seeing Celine tomorrow.

"In a magical and unexpected turn of events, I now have a date with my Queen @celinedion tomorrow night in Vegas. It’s my first time ever seeing her live, which is crazy cause we’ve been working on #TITANIQUE for what feels like a lifetime. I had planned on getting to Vegas to see her before she closed but then had so many unexpected expenses from funerals and flights and car stuff - I gave up on the trip. But it worked out. The Universe provides. I’m so happy. ❤️❤️ ANYWAY, just block me now if you don’t wanna see #Celineon my feed for the next 24+ hours."

You can read more about him and the project in the interview below -

I'm telling ya'll, at the rate these tribute musicals are happening right now (especially diva tribute musicals), we're going to get a Celine one sooner or later.

I Flove Stephanie J. Block - she might be on of the few Broadway actors who could actually pull off singing an entire evening of Celine songs by playing her in a tribute musical.

Putting these where they belong! (Because clearly, both Broadway AND West End love Celine Dion! :-D

I went to see the new musical "& Juliet" in London last week. It was so good! (It's based on the songs of Max Martin.)

It features a beautiful stripped back version of TTWII. I would absolutely love to see Celine do something like this for this tour or the next.

YouTube link below. If it doesn't work Google it!

That's so cool! Thanks for posting.

Here's the Variety review: https://variety.com/...tin-1203411861/

Hope it comes to Broadway!

Incidentally, this is one of the stars :)
