LuisMa Posted November 8, 2013 at 01:49 AM Posted November 8, 2013 at 01:49 AM Well, the map is really big, so I can't attach it here. I uploaded it on imageshack, but the forum settings won't let us see it due to its size. On the previous forum we could, but the page would spread so wide that all the posts looked terrible. I will discontinue the idea, as it looks pretty small and there's no use if the info could be posted and read as well. If you or anyone wants the big map, I can email it. 2 Quote
chocolatechip15 Posted November 8, 2013 at 01:56 AM Posted November 8, 2013 at 01:56 AM But with Céline, my love and respect for this girl goes well beyond the music she sings, since almost the very first days of being a fan. I began falling in love with her songs, but now I keep falling in love when I just see her talk in an interview. She's much more than a singer, and she enchantes me beyond her songs. I disagree with you about some things, but on this point I am 100% in agreement. I think that's true of most of her fans, and why she has such a passionate fanbase. And Celine knows, too -- and loves -- that her fans love her beyond her songs. It's part of what makes the whole thing so special. 2 Quote
chocolatechip15 Posted November 8, 2013 at 02:09 AM Posted November 8, 2013 at 02:09 AM (edited) In my opinion, Celine's "decision" to stay in Vegas for so long (I use quotes because I think these things are to some degree decided ahead of time considering there are hundreds of millions of dollars at stake) is less about family and stability and more about maintaining a certain lifestyle without the creative risk that comes along with releasing new albums and then touring in support of them. That is, after all, her job. In total, during the 90's, she must have generated somewhere close to 2 billion dollars in gross album sales alone, and it is certainly true that she has made more money than any other entertainer on the planet over the past 10 years. This is the game Celine and Rene play - it is not about the fans, it is not about the music, it is about money. So long as she still makes tens of millions of dollars every year, they are doing something right. But Celine's integrity has vanished in the process. She is no longer respected as a great artist, she is looked upon as a brand, and brand value can and does diminish over time since it feeds off of creative integrity. The sad thing is, Celine has enough money now that she could literally retire and focus on writing songs, or she could dabble in any number of creative endeavors that would positively impact the quality of her music. She could also be resting her voice so that the millions of fans she has who cannot afford to come to Vegas get to hear her at her best when she releases albums. But she chooses not to. Why? It is at once because she is addicted to applause and to adoration and fame and everything that goes along with it, but it is also because she is fiercely competitive and refuses to "bow out" and no longer be a chart contender. It's just that the chart that mattered used to be the Hot 100, whereas now it is about ticket sales and the occasional album or fragrance. But let's not forget that Celine is a multibillion dollar industry and as such creative risks, of the sort that most serious artists take when they are creating music and perfecting their craft, have financial consequences; while the first Vegas show was a gamble, this one wasn't. And while this album seems like a risk, it is actually her most commercial album ever and seems to lack a coherent concept or sensibility. Everyone agrees that this album is her best in over a decade, and perhaps her coolest ever, but still, it is commercial, overproduced, uneven, rushed, lacking a coherent or compelling concept, and it only seems so good because her last few albums have honestly been terrible when measured against most other contemporary music. Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, and Lady Gaga will be more successful than Celine not because they got naked on TV, they are successful because they actually care about the music they are releasing. They are actively engaged in the creative process. Celine is not, and thus she does not deserve the level of success she hopes to achieve. Celine has been calling herself an artist for 30 years now; it's time she took that seriously. She needs to have a concept, she needs to say something, and it makes me sad that she would rather sing the same songs over and over again and get paid $250,000 a show than take risks on a daring and unconventional album that might not seem destined for #1. She talks about her songs as if she no longer cares about training her voice and just sings blah whatever and everyone says it's brilliant. Well, I'll be the first to say that while Celine seems to criticize the industry as a "yes place," she is actually surrounded by yes people who care more about royalties and sales figures and profit than the preservation of Celine's integrity as an artist. With this album she has tried to have it all, going in all directions simultaneously, and while it works remarkably well, it is not a creative strategy I respect, because it is no longer about the music, it's all just one perpetual promo campaign for a billion dollar enterprise that refuses to take true risks. She pandered to the new mainstream and failed, now what? When you choose to say nothing, you should not be surprised when nobody listens. Celine needs to listen to more music, personally reach out to songwriters, and curate her albums in response to a specific set of inspirations. She needs time to become inspired and explore her sense of self, what she finds beautiful and compelling in music. She does not win anyone's respect when she says she doesn't listen to anything besides Adele and Rihanna; she only further validates the false impression most people have of Celine's music, that she is a mindless puppet who sings whatever the corporate people want her to sing and says the same things in every interview and is maybe the least interesting and most boring person in the world, etc. Celine's art is performing. Her biggest strength and greatest love has always been live performance .. . .going back to the time when she was singing for her brothers and sisters on the kitchen table. It's a different art than writing songs, or crafting albums, or anything else. .people could argue a lot about what's more valuable and what should be more respected . .but when it comes down to it, Celine is a brilliant, brilliant performer with amazing energy, charisma, and ability to connect with massive audiences -- apart from her amazing voice. That's her art, and that's her passion, and that's what she's been doing in Vegas, which allows her to balance her passion with her # 1 priority - raising her children, being there for them, putting them first. I disagree completely that it's all about money. Edited November 8, 2013 at 02:10 AM by chocolatechip15 5 Quote

smw Posted November 8, 2013 at 02:59 AM Posted November 8, 2013 at 02:59 AM As much as I would LOVE Loved Me Back to Life (the song) to catch fire because it really is a brilliant single -- I think it would be wise to release INCREDIBLE sooner than later. NeYo will help push the song because he really loves it. And it would give the album enough steam to keep selling through the holidays. And, as a result, more people will be exposed to find Loved Me Back to Life. Then, we can kind of have two simultaneous singles helping each other out. We need to pull in as many people as possible! Also -- if you are able to rate the album on Amazon and/or iTunes -- go do that now!! 1 Quote

dj_a_rock Posted November 8, 2013 at 07:02 AM Posted November 8, 2013 at 07:02 AM The album is number 8 in iTunes US now. The problem is most people in the US still don't know she has a new album out! Although she already performed in a couple of TV shows in the past few days, it is very minimal. Who would remember her performance in Ellen 2 months ago and the album is out just this week? Her TV appearance in the US is not enough!!! 2 Quote

Celine charted high and sold 30 million copies of albums in the 90's because that's when Celine was young and fresh in the industry, and this was the time when her type of music was popular amongst the masses. I honestly don't think that Vegas has degraded her chart performance or sales. The age of internet piracy, and the fact that people have moved on from Celine has. Let's be real here. Katy Perry..is a brand. Gaga is HER OWN BRAND...Miley Cyrus, should be branded...like a farm animal...but I digress. This new album is her most coherent since ANDHC. All the songs tie in to one another based on the way they sound and the way they were produced. To say that this album ranks in what you think are "terrible Celine albums" is a bit off the mark. This album was far from rushed...it took 6 years to come out with it. And it took another entire year to finish after they decided to change the concept. This is a quality album that she has recorded here, and while it may not debut or even hit #1, it still has it's place on the Billboard charts, and I thoroughly believe that it will prevail. mike_z Posted November 8, 2013 at 12:06 PM Posted November 8, 2013 at 12:06 PM The iTunes chart positions are great after 4 days of being released!!Anyone saying LMBTL is a flop is totally delusional! A #2 debut in the US, plus being #1 in 33 countries on iTunes, and all her sales and chart positions we'll see worldwide will speak for themselves. In 2013, Celine's performance is pretty good, and her numbers are very decent in today's scenario. Of course her album is not a MEGA SUCCESS but it could be considered a MODERATE SUCCESS, but not a FLOP. By no means. Cher's album is considered a success and I'm sure it will end up selling half of what Celine will do. FLOPS are albums that reach nowhere in the charts, that are outshined by many other albums, and that cannot dominate worldwide sales.
