Magicalmark2013 Posted November 9, 2013 at 02:34 PM Posted November 9, 2013 at 02:34 PM I think every1 needs to get over the fact she's not sold a million in a week and actually be grateful we have something special here. I think Celine is great and every1 on this forum needs to get off the bitter bus! And don't forget Celine has had her height of her career, I don't think she's expected to be beating the youngsters! She's sold 220 million records for Sony, they aint gonna drop her! LOL!!! 5 Quote
izadolphin Posted November 9, 2013 at 02:38 PM Posted November 9, 2013 at 02:38 PM It's true to a point that it's "flop-like" sales, and that #2 doesn't really count very much these days... It all really matters how strong it stays in the top 10-20 and sells in the coming weeks. Holiday sales are generally pretty strong, Sans attendre had it's highest sales over a month after it's release... Yeah, it is a flop by our standards, and by Celine's history, of course. But it doesn't mean that it won't dig it's way out or stay around for a little while, enough to make a fairly strong selling album long-run. It's not the best start by a mile, but it could be worse after six years. Let's try not using "flop" until we at least see where Incredible goes. If it fails, then we can talk about flopping. It will still sell quite a few records I'm sure. Not that I'm an expert or anything Quote
Popular Post mike_z Posted November 9, 2013 at 02:56 PM Popular Post Posted November 9, 2013 at 02:56 PM SANS ATTENDRE was probably Celine's second or third most successful french album. Sales are probably 4 times smaller than 15 years ago, so selling 1.5 million last year would be like selling 6 million back then. Thus, SANS ATTENDRE is massive. Same with LMBTL, executives are of course aware that the market is down, so they can't expect an opening week of 240k like they had 6 years ago. Still, this album seems to be snatching better chart positions than its predecessor, which means of course that overall she's selling more than the competition. She's likely to grab the #2 spot on the Global Albums Chart, and that's big! Currently LMBTL is the 3rd best selling album on iTunes, after Gaga and Eminem. Do you really think this could be considered a flop? coming from a middle aged woman with a very long career and against all the youngsters? I think it's something at least RC would be proud of , and I am too! 9 Quote
garçon Posted November 9, 2013 at 03:15 PM Posted November 9, 2013 at 03:15 PM First, comparing Celine to Rod Stewart is like comparing gold to plastic. Second, the best will always want to work with Celine. She is a vocalist with a voice people admire. For the most part people want to hear Celine singing beautiful songs, they don't associate her with rhythm and dance music. The 'edgy' thing doesn't interest the run of the mill Celine fan. Her songs in Vegas do. When you stray away from what people expect you don't always get the best results. Celine delivers, but it's the songs that must appeal to her audience. I hope Celine will remain Gold. Or rather Platinum. So you really think the only reason Ne-Yo wanted to work with her was her prestige as a vocalist? Like Karo DioGuara (got that name wrong) said: Celine Dion recording your song is like winning a jackpot (or words of that order). Now, you blame the type of music recorded making LMBTL being less a success. While the general public doesn't want her to renew, but built forward on what she previously did. This is exactly the point I'm making. Sadly, most of the fans want her to renew; Celine wants that too. However, it is less likely she will due so in the future, regarding the poor commercial reception so far in the US (though it's too early to draw conclusions). Therfore: the Rod Steward (I have no clue, he's just the first example popping up in my head) perspective. I think every1 needs to get over the fact she's not sold a million in a week and actually be grateful we have something special here. I think Celine is great and every1 on this forum needs to get off the bitter bus! And don't forget Celine has had her height of her career, I don't think she's expected to be beating the youngsters! She's sold 220 million records for Sony, they aint gonna drop her! LOL!!! Indeed, she's older. Less current. Low sales will perpetually consolidate her being an artist of the past (a great past of 200 million whatever). SANS ATTENDRE was probably Celine's second or third most successful french album. I think it's something at least RC would be proud of , and I am too! You are saying it again (with regards to the English career). Unlike Madonna, it seems she has lost mayor appeal as a current artist. Possibly, flopping in the US (for her terms at least) will further influence her as a recording artist. LMBTL could mark a career shift. That is: more of a 'Vegas' discography. That is: more standards and covers. Will Celine really be the new Barbra Streisand? Quote
LukeD Posted November 9, 2013 at 03:19 PM Posted November 9, 2013 at 03:19 PM Selling far less than 100 000 in the opening week is not anything near commercial success. Moreover, she played her most important tricks last week already. You don't know that. There is solid promotion coming in US next month. 2 Quote

mike_z Posted November 9, 2013 at 03:41 PM Posted November 9, 2013 at 03:41 PM By the way, according to KWORB, LMBTL (song) sold 14k digital this week, a 109% improvement over last week's 7k. (USA). I guess it should have sold around 100k total by now. Plus, INCREDIBLE sold 7K this week. Really small but they're charting anyway! 1 Quote

Really small but they're charting anyway!I was wondering about that, it has been hovering between 100-125 all week. It's not "big" but it's not too shabby. Another performance or two somewhere or even a few other radio showings would be great. But it's ok if not, it's a good song either way. Quote

There is a duo of brothers called Richard and Adam who won Britajns got talent and they didn't chart well in iTunes, however due to cd sales had a number 1 album for 3 weeks and I think that's what we will see with celine, maybe not number 1 but good cd sales, excited about this Quote

Probably eventually their careers will be similar (well, not that similar since Barbra is an actress, director, producer, songwriter, etc, etc) but I think Celine will eventually stick to standards. Popular Post smw Posted November 9, 2013 at 07:05 PM Popular Post Posted November 9, 2013 at 07:05 PM (edited) The big difference between Babs and Celine is that Celine is all about live performance. When Babs performs, she's stellar. But she enjoys doing other artistic things -- and she enjoys being at home, not performing. Celine's legacy (in addition to her French discography) is her tremendous work ethic when it comes to live performance. I think it's great that LMBTL has such a wide array of songs -- from classics to supremely modern tracks. Very smart to keep her open to many markets. I'm listening to the BBC Radio Interview right now. SO good. Love hearing her talk about her career! So refreshing. She has a very healthy outlook on life and her career. She doesn't look backwards. That's something we can all learn from (both when it comes to Celine and our own lives). "Oh, but Celine's not selling as much. Oh, but Celine's not trying as hard. Oh, but Celine's not touring like she used to...." Let's stop looking backwards and focus on forward motion. I love hearing how Celine goes about choosing/recording her new songs. Like biting into something so good at a restaurant. It's like muscle memory for her to learn the songs. Doesn't listen to the chosen song again until the day of the recording session. Let's soak in this era, you guys. I felt similarly last year during SA promotion. Let's enjoy this!! And support it without getting bogged down by negativity. She's going to be #2 on the Billboard chart! She's #1 in so many places! That's fantastic! And there's more promotion to come -- more bonus songs to come -- more performances to come -- changes in the Vegas songs to come!!! So many wonderful things! I think she's got a big connection to this album and she's going to keep the momentum going because it's meaningful to her. It'd be great to get a re-release of the album down the road with bonus tracks to keep it selling too! Edited November 9, 2013 at 07:08 PM by smw 8 Quote
