browseceline Posted November 9, 2013 at 07:26 AM Posted November 9, 2013 at 07:26 AM I hope she will stay at the no.1 position in my country! I just know when she would add a concert in amsterdam, it would be sold out soon. Lots of celinefans here. boyblackuk Posted November 9, 2013 at 08:07 AM Posted November 9, 2013 at 08:07 AM I'm happy with 80,000 it's a good figure for the time, kelly sold 70,000 last week cher was 63,000, Elton less again. Number 2 is her best debut in 10 years which is amazing 3 Quote
wjd Posted November 9, 2013 at 09:07 AM Posted November 9, 2013 at 09:07 AM Wait..if this figure is reported based on six merchants as stated above, this does not include Amazon sales and QVC ? should not we have xtra 10000 copies from QVC ?Finger crossed xxx Isn't going to happen. Whilst whar you've just stated is correct in practice, we've now had three separate updates from two different industry sources - if she was going to sell more, we'd know about it. As I've already stated, the QVC sales were factored into the original projection, the only thing saving this album is a last minute weekend surge. boyblackuk Posted November 9, 2013 at 09:28 AM Posted November 9, 2013 at 09:28 AM The Song has finally re-entered the Itunes UK 100 at 94. The album still hovering outside at 111. She is on BBC radio soon and then tv all weekend and in a few papers today. 1 Quote

She'll probably sell 250k max worldwide already. Taking Chances sold 1 million in USA alone. Sans Attendre sold 1 million in France alone. If only Sony promoted this album properly, this will not happen. Quote
izadolphin Posted November 9, 2013 at 10:06 AM Posted November 9, 2013 at 10:06 AM This album has been promoted pretty well guys and in a lot of good places and "new" places for her. Today show... Jimmy Fallon (first time)... The View. All are very good platforms, I think there's very few other places to go aside from these to make big first week impact. We don't have Oprah anymore which made the greatest impact, even her newer show/interviews are not on the same level. And she has plenty of chances to do it too, it's not like it won't happen just because the first week is here. She only had so much time before she had to leave the states for other promos and concerts outside of here. Also, Sony didn't just say in december they had plans, he mentions black Friday time I believe, the week after release also holidays and six months into next year. He mentioned they believed there are lots of songs this can ride on for a while. They will pick new songs...We all know that many of these songs have potential. 85..80..90..100k is not bad.. she WILL get gold no matter what, and platinum is not out of the question if good singles get picked up. We just have to hope that Incredible catches on in the top 40. And for those debating about the second single. The TRUTH is, she is FAR more likely to get something going with this song, and then any single after has a better chance for attention. If they were to go to one of the others, it won't have the same chance BEFORE Incredible. People will talk more after Incredible. That would make her single after more accepted possibly and the album sell better in the long run. What we want is not one big huge first week but rather 10-20-40-100 solid weeks. And that's what we need. One other thing that helped TC in 2007 is that the LEAD single was a #45 hit and it was 6 YEARS ago, and when compared, LMBTL was not even in the hot 100 this time around. That would have made an impression and let the albums first week sell more. This is what I see anyway. I'm hopeful and yet I try not to get too high of hopes either. This is a great album, one of her best. There's time for it to grow. And even if it's not, 80k is not the worst either. So much negativity about it. I can't pretend I'm happy about 80, but honestly, I wasn't happy with anything less than 500K after ANDHC so let's just enjoy what we have while we have it because our expectations have been kind of high lately (One more thing lol... We can't compare her sans attendre with US either because she has A LOT more respect and admiration in francophone countries and as a french artist, so when this album became a hit, there was a better chance for her there. She's not the same here in the US at least) ...Anyway, I'm done now heh 2 Quote

Sans Attendre sold 1 million in France alone. If only Sony promoted this album properly, this will not happen. She'll likely sell 250,000 copies worldwide in week one, and that's a decent total. Taking Chances finished with 9x its opening week sales in total; if this album opens with 250,000 copies and finishes with 9x that, it'll mean 2.25m copies - an insane total. I highly doubt that this album will finish up with that total, but it does figure. 2 Quote Céline Dion, music's greatest ever singer, the biggest-selling Canadian artist of all-time and most successful female live act ever - what's not to love?

She definitely won't sell the same amount in the succeeding weeks because the hardcore fans got their copies already on the first day while the casual fans will probably get their copy within this week. Even Eminem wont sell 700k every week or even Katy Perry. It is normal for all artist to have a sales drop on their second and succeeding weeks. I just hope Sony will do more so that the album wont drop so fast in the charts. I just dont want to see other artists who released their albums the same time as her are still inside iTunes 10 after month while LMBTL is out in top 200 already. Quote

Ok, so now the approx 80 000 prediction seems sufficiently substantiated? If she debuts with these numbers (even less than poor floptina's latest two debuts) it would mean a true tragedy. At least for the US, LMBTL will mark Celine's decline as a 1st class act. Maybe she doesn't care for sales numbers, obviously sony does. The next album will have a lesser budget, less promotion, less momentum etc. This might be the last mayor release for her, promoted at a string of the world's most popular shows. Selling her albums proportionately well has always been her most important trademark, right? Let's hope the album will gain the coming weeks. It has be certified at least gold within a considerable amount of time... though IMO a Celine Dion album should attain platinum certification. Quote

My point was that Taking Chances sold 9x more copies overall than it did in its opening week. The key to capturing extra sales here is to nail the all-important casual fans - Céline doesn't have over 3.5m super-fans worldwide, but that didn't stop over 3.5m people buying Taking Chances [or rather maybe 3m people buying it, as I'm sure many people like me bought separate editions of the same album]. I'm not for a second saying that she will sell 9x her opening week tally, she doesn't have a world tour this time to support the longevity required to achieve such a sales boost. But I do think that thanks to Europe & Canada, she should enjoy decent sales over the holiday period. Well, not necessarily. We don't know what the future holds - Céline has about three weeks between the time she's scheduled to fly back to the US and her return to Vegas - if she uses this time wisely, she could salvage the era in the US. I personally can't hide my disappointment though, I hate 2013 - this will be the first Céline studio album not to sell the equivalent of platinum in the US, if current projections are anything to go by, she won't even sell Gold! I just hope that her label have something clever planned to support the US. 1 Quote Céline Dion, music's greatest ever singer, the biggest-selling Canadian artist of all-time and most successful female live act ever - what's not to love?

However, if the album fails to sale sufficiently, the likes for a new album full of decent collaborations (expensive producers, current, prestigious duet partners) become less. Sony, as investor, might opt for releases like compilations 'The duet album', 'The soundtrack album' of Rod Steward like albums full of standards. These are easier and less costly to produce... but less original of course. We appreciate her NEW music. However, if this become to much of an investment effort.... Surely, one day she'll be the equivalent of Barbra and Rob Steward etc. But please: NOT YET. Let's wait another ten years for that. Quote
Popular Post Alex_Incognito Posted November 9, 2013 at 11:50 AM Popular Post Posted November 9, 2013 at 11:50 AM (edited) Wow. Lots of 'experts' here. Let's not forget that Celine is set to debut at number 2. That is not a tragedy. No one is ever going to drop Celine Dion from their record label as she's always a sure fire excellent seller and she's a living legend. In the US the big buyers are preteens and teenagers. These people are going to buy Eminem. I do believe that my generation was the last one to find Celine 'cool' and played by preteens and teens. But that was in the late 1990s at the height of her career. While she will continue to gather new fans for the rest of her career and beyond, we cannot expect sales to be the same. The industry has changed, the economy has changed, and it's no longer 1999. Don't dig her career's grave just yet. She is and will always be a 1st class act. People come from all over the world to hear her sing in Las Vegas and the applause remains the same and is just as deserved now as it was in 1983. She just might not always record pop tunes. I, for one, wish she'd move in the direction her French albums are in as well as explore jazz and blues. Bottom line, before this becomes the length of our dear Javito's posts, Celine is and will always be widely respected and she'll always have an audience. CelineBird Posted November 9, 2013 at 11:54 AM Posted November 9, 2013 at 11:54 AM If the album doesn't sell as much as what we've anticipated, and even less than 100k for its first week in US, it's time I think for Rene to reconsider the focus of Celine's career. US is not the place deserving taking all her time anymore. Actually its wise to do some shows in Europe with less in Vegas, and I hope for more outside US in future. But considering the education of RC, stability seems to be a must. It's so sad to see the superstar now simply ignored by the mainstream media even with so well produced album. I am totally confused to see the views of some videos in youtube instantly go up to millions yet with the singer that can't be called to be singing to my ear. too bad. 1 Quote

Well, as I implied, there's a live beyond being a most profitable number 1 top act. That's the career perspective 'a Rod Steward' (as mere example) has, though having lost budgets/opportunities to collaborate with the best of the best in the business, having the chance to promote the record on the most prestigious stages. We all understand an album is an investment: it needs to produce enough revenues to equal the millions of investments. Thus, loosing money on LMBTL could seriously degrade the Celine Dion brand, making future comprehensive albums such as LMBTL less likely to realize. 1 Quote

garçon Posted November 9, 2013 at 02:29 PM Posted November 9, 2013 at 02:29 PM #2 is not a flop. Selling far less than 100 000 in the opening week is not anything near commercial success. First, comparing Celine to Rod Stewart is like comparing gold to plastic. Second, the best will always want to work with Celine. She is a vocalist with a voice people admire. For the most part people want to hear Celine singing beautiful songs, they don't associate her with rhythm and dance music. The 'edgy' thing doesn't interest the run of the mill Celine fan. Her songs in Vegas do. When you stray away from what people expect you don't always get the best results. Celine delivers, but it's the songs that must appeal to her audience. 2 Quote "People pay 20-25 dollars to see you."- Céline Dion, 1990
