Javito Posted September 23, 2013 at 06:41 PM Posted September 23, 2013 at 06:41 PM ANDHC was also her first english album that failed to score a TOP 10 hit in the US... However it debuted as number 1 in more than 17 countries, and it went straight to #1 album in Billboard 200 album chart! Whats up today here guys? I'm just praising one of her albums and only giving compliments for what she achieved with this CD in 2002 and you're all denigrating its merits??? Your_Su_Phu Posted September 23, 2013 at 06:46 PM Posted September 23, 2013 at 06:46 PM (edited) This is one of the them :http://www.rfimusiqu...ticle_14738.asp They claim over 12 million copies. They got the right sales numbers for Let’s Talk About Love and These Are The Speial Times so I don't see why they would get the wrong sales numbers for A New Day Has Come. This is likely another case of the difference between inflated sales meant for press releases vs actual certifications that we can verify. Kind of like how Sony announced that Celine sold 200 million albums (now 220 million) although her actual certifications are much lower. All record labels do this of course. We'll never really know. Your_Su_Phu Posted September 23, 2013 at 06:51 PM Posted September 23, 2013 at 06:51 PM However it debuted as number 1 in more than 17 countries, and it went straight to #1 album in Billboard 200 album chart! Based on hype. ANDHC's biggest failure was in the US and yet it also opened there with the most massive debut sales week of her entire career. The CBS TV special was highly rated. People were anticipating it heavily, they were ready to embrace Celine. The album and singles simply disappointed them. Whats up today here guys? I'm just praising one of her albums and only giving compliments for what she achieved with this CD in 2002 and you're all denigrating its merits??? Javito Posted September 23, 2013 at 06:55 PM Posted September 23, 2013 at 06:55 PM (edited) What's ironic is that we can hypothesize all we want about Celine's more upbeat songs such as "That's the way it is" bringing in younger fans...but the truth is, she had FAR more teenage girls screeching along to true international smashes such as My heart will go on and Because you loved me, even though they're both crusty ballads. Now that's funny. Come onnnnnn!!! Every teenage girl was screeching along to MHWGO because of the Titanic movie, which featured Leonardo DiCaprio, who happened to be the crush of all girls at that time!!! Ask the director of the movie how many teenagers repeated to see the movie 2, 3 or 5 times just because of Leo. He was the actor of the year in the industry! But it wasn't just Sony who had high expectations. Many fans were very disappointed in ANDHC's commercial performance, particularly in the US. Do you think no one is heavily anticipating how Adele's next album will do after 21 broke so many records? It is only a natural reaction to have high expectations after 2 diamond albums in a row, one of the best selling Xmas albums, and one of the best selling greatest hits compilations ever. Yet, as the press deemed, ANDHC could only manage to be a "middling hit".Sure, ultimately it did respectably, largely on hype. Note how I said it was the "beginning of the end", not that it was an outright flop. Yeah, surely in 2002 the headache of all fans was if ANDHC sold 1 million more or less instead of the pleasure of enjoying her new album after 2 years of break, which delivered a sound that she had never tried before. It surely kept them up at night come on . And you keep insisting in the US market as if it was decisive to determine if the album was successful or not, ignoring that it was a major success in the rest of the world. Okay, I give up, "A New Day Has Come" was a completely flop, its one of the least favourite albums among the Celine Dion fans, the songs it included sound all the same as in her previous works and they did not represent any step forward in her discography, and just because Sony USA says so, it deserves to be named as one of the biggest flops in her career. Happy now? So if this album is a complete disappointment to you, I don't want to know how short must be the list of achievements of the following albums in her career! What a disaster of a decade!.... Edited September 23, 2013 at 07:07 PM by Javito Quote "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"

Ask the director of the movie how many teenagers repeated to see the movie 2, 3 or 5 times just because of Leo. He was the actor of the year in the industry! Of course. I never said otherwise. But that doesn't change the truth. And the same can be said for Because you loved me. You know what's more important than having an uptempo song when it comes to reaching younger audiences? It's having a hit to begin with. A hit that radio will play nonstop. Teenagers are impressionable. and in the 90's, Celine's power ballads were embraced by not only middle aged housewives but also teenage girls (at least during the FIY-LTAL era). Yeah, surely in 2002 the headache of all fans was if ANDHC sold 1 million more or less instead of the pleasure of enjoying her new album after 2 years of break, which delivered a sound that she had never tried before, come on . And you keep insisting in the US market as if it was decisive to determine if the album was successful or not, ignoring that it was a major success in the rest of the world. She already tried that sound with That's the way it is. Once again, ANDHC was not groundbreaking in the slightest, even for Celine. What exactly were the "new sounds" that album offered? Even Sorry for Love has a predecessor in terms of the disco-styled Just a little bit of love, simply that it has more synthesizers. And your post has no basis in reality. Even today, at this very moment, her fans are biting their nails at why LMBTL hasn't hit the hot 100 yet, despite the fact that the last flop lead single - Taking Chances - took a month to debut on the hot 100.It is a fact, fans were very disappointed at how A new day has come performed commercially. I remember, I was posting on CelCo at the time and checked the Billboard charts every week. People weren't delusional enough to expect another diamond album, but they expected better than 3x platinum in the US. Also, you are selectively reading my posts. I repeat over and over that it performed underwhelmingly internationally as well. Happy now? Typical, when you have no argument you resort to straw man attacks. The very post you quoted from me stated that ANDHC wasn't an outright flop, and yet here you paint me as claiming that it was (I said it performed underwhelmingly, but respectably. And it was a disappointment commercially. Disappointment doesn't have to mean disaster). I also never said anything about it being one of the least favorite albums among fans, nor did I say the songs sound the same as her previous works, I said it wasn't groundbreaking. What a disaster of a decade!.... I said it was a commercial disappointment and underwhelmed, not that it was a "complete disappointment". It still performed respectably overall, which is why I called it the "beginning of the end" and not an outright flop. Much of the disappointment surrounding ANDHC was related to the success of her previous albums in the late 90's. Each new release deserves to be judged within its own context. By the time Taking Chances came out, expectations for Celine's commercial prowess had diminished greatly. So the fact that TC went platinum in 2008 without a hit single meant it was a relative/mild success. It's all about context. Edited September 23, 2013 at 07:16 PM by Your_Su_Phu 3 Quote

It's you who keep generalizing that just because the album sales didn't work well in only ONE country, then its a disappointment and a commercial failure in general terms and for the rest of the market. Sorry but that can't be more inaccurate. 17 countries in which the album was #1 are far more significant and representative than one single country in which you are deciding the luck of the album. I don't need any therapy, you have a problem with your limited vision of success making everything turn around one market, the US. The album underwhelmed worldwide as well. Keep on pretending that Sony is a xenophobic American company that doesn't care about international sales. So what if it was #1 in 17 countries if it had no longevity? Did you selectively decide to forget that it also debuted at #1 in the US with the biggest debut sales week of her entire career? Madonna's "Hard candy" debuted at #1 in 37 countries, yet it was hardly anywhere near her most successful. Chart positions have to be taken in context. I can easily draw up and compare sales figures for ANDHC compared to previous albums (only released a few years before), and all outside of the US. It underperformed. Period. 1 Quote

What Sony? Sony USA, Sony UK, Sony Thailand, Sony Argentina??... Because there are like 20 or 30 Sony Music branches worldwide, and just because for Sony USA it could be a "disappointment" (which I think that's a highly argueable statement), that DOES NOT mean it was the same for other Sony Music branches around the globe. You limit all the album performance in sales to just one market, the US, and that's beyond ridiculous, especially when its a fact that the album was one of the biggest selling albums in many other countries, especially in Europe. Is still a "disappointment" for these markets, because Sony USA says so? It's still a commercial failure in Sony Canada, Sony UK, Sony Germany, Sony Australia, Sony Switzerland... etc because of its performance in the US alone? Your last post speaks for itself. Your making Sony USA's "disappointment" your own disappointment with the album, because it didn't sell what you expected. Read again what you just wrote. So you mean that because the album didn't sell what you expected, you don't like the album and its a major failure to you too. Have we gone crazy here??? Since when the album sales have to decide if an album disappoints you or not??? You mean you only enjoy an album when it sells the figures you expect prior to its release? :confused1: 2 Quote "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"

Her album basically started out huge and then faded. It underperformed in many major markets, not just the US. Also I made it clear I didn't have unrealistic expectations for ANDHC matching the sales of FIY or LTAL. But they are reference points. Just like how everyone is using Taking Chances as a reference point for how well LMBTL does as a single. Your last post speaks for itself. For me, ANDHC is one of her better studio English albums, but that's irrelevant to what we were discussing. If no one (including you) cared about the commercial performance of Celine's singles or albums, you wouldn't even be in this thread or checking Celine's chart runs.
