Second single: "Incredible" - Duet with Ne-Yo

As this is an "Incredible" thread, I'll keep this brief. IF Celine were to make another appearance on "The Voice," the song she should sing is either "Somebody Loves Somebody" or "Save Your Soul." "The Voice" has the type of audience which would appeal to those songs better than something like "Water And A Flame" or "Breakaway." That's my opinion, anyway.

Promotional singles too are sent to radio stations to arouse attention and -for example- make it to the airplay chart.

Then you look at me was cancelled, that too was a decision made by (or in accordance with) the record label company. Hence another example of a sad bad strategic decision imo.

 

It wasn't sad strategy. TYLAM single was cancelled due to the fact that the movie didn't do as well as expected. It has nothing to do with Sony making a bad decision.

No, I don't agree. It was their decision to cancel that single (that btw was released in South-America, since an actual physical cd single was released). There's no strict causality between the success of a movie and the success of its soundtrack/main theme. Rather the single should have been pushed back then to promote the movie.

That was a promo release, not a commercial release. Completely different things.

 

 

 

Unfortunately the Bicentennial Man movie, released on December 13, 1999 and starring Robin Williams, became a flop and the single was cancelled. The second reason was the fact that "That's the Way It Is" became a hit and was still strong on the singles charts around the world.

& what really sucks is, like you said, that celines songs no longer get played on the radio here in the usa, & im not talking about top 40 stations since i know they wont dare touch a celine dion song unless she decides to go into hip-hop sad to say since that is what is mostly played on top 40 for the past several years, top 40 here in the usa plays 95% hip-hop w/ some r&b & a little bit of rock & alternative thrown in lol... & as we all know already, celine hasnt had a song on top 40 radio here in the usa in yearsssss, since i believe "thats the way it is" was around back in '99 was the last hit, which is 15 years ago (wow i cant believe that the 90s ended 15 years ago thats crazy lol, geez i feel like an old lady now lol, back when i was a teenager, ahhh the good old days)... The single had no impact because it wasn't given the chance to. It's official release was cancelled due to the lackluster success of "Bicentennial Man." The video never played on television in the states, not once. I'm pretty sure it's the same for every other major market as well.

TYLAM was sent to some radio stations. I remember in the Netherlands it was on the radio (radio 2 for who's concerned with it).

It was even specifically reviewed by critics, considered as single, though - like I said - not endorsed by the record company, hence a flop. Like the Norwegian ice skaters last week on the 10 kilometers. They withdrew, therefore lost.

TYLAM is not just another album track. It was heavily produced; two distinct edits by the MHWGO team as all of you know obviously. Besides, that video clip is not just promotional.

First of all, so called promotional singles do have impact from time to time. First example that comes to my mind: Mariah Carey's Butterfly.

I am not following what CelinesDIVO5 said about the single being promotional and not a commercial release. What I think is that the song was not released AT ALL. I have to ask, how do we know the song was sent to radios? Maybe radios played it here and there because Celine was at the peak of her career. 'Just Walk Away' was played in Greece during the 90s and it's a well-known song but it was never released as a single. Radios picked it up out of nowhere to the point that it became more popular here than 'Think Twice', for instance. As for the video clip argument, I remind you that IWCT and ATW had their respective music videos without being singles.

It didn't have a chance to perform to be a flop is what I'm saying. It didn't chart even under the top 200. There was no life given to this song in order for it to flop.

Boo bear, it was released as a promo single, at least in Chile. But it says right on it, only as a promo single. I don't think it was sold in stores though.

Who knows? Ever since PAMP was shot in July and premiered in September everything seems possible.

Not that I foresee this even coming close to happening, but I did just notice something on Celine's itinerary. She is NOT performing tomorrow in Las Vegas. So, technically, after finishing tonight's show, she COULD, in theory, go to a studio somewhere nearby afterwards. Then, meet with Ne-Yo, and do "Incredible" live via satellite for the Closing Ceremonies which would be starting live in Sochi at 8:00AM West Coast time. The possibility of this happening is the slimmest of any ludicrous predicting I've ever made, but it IS doable!
