anewdayhascome Posted February 20, 2014 at 10:36 PM Posted February 20, 2014 at 10:36 PM IDAN was 11 years ago. The music scene has changed dramatically. From MHWGO to IDAN the scene changed dramatically. So what? she can't deliver a modern sound? I disagree. As you mentioned the scene changed between MHWGO and IDAN and they both were successful. So why not now? I'm sure that if it was written on youtube or wherever under Breakaway that it is sung by Adele, it would instantly be no. 1 everywhere. It's just something about Celine in recent years that doesn't work, that the publicity is omitting her in some way. I think SONY made a plan based on the fact that radios would not support Celine. Therefore, Celine appeared in the biggest TV shows in US, France and UK. Instead of putting the blame on them we should probably accept the truth that people in US disliked the material Celine presented. I remind you that the week Celine was on the biggest national TV Show and had her own TV Special she sold less than 30k. And this was also the week before Christmas... Nothing could save the album at this point. Moreover the postponements and the changes of the concept seem irrelevant to how the world responded to the album, it's not as if everyone was expecting Celine's new album and got disappointed because of the delays. I also fail to see the buzz after the first performance of LMBTL. I have been saying this for months...! Anyway, I agree that her team had no real plan but to me this only explains why some fans were frustrated, it does not justify the poor sales in certain markets. But as you mentioned she appeared only in 3 countries... That's enough? And don't tell me that her appearances were well thought. Well the idea was great, The Voice, the special with kids but the reality was crappy and lame. Come on! They should have released Incredible the day it was sung on the Voice along with a proper video and promote it a lot, a LOT! As for the TV Special, her "own" TV Special, to tell the truth it was everything but her own special. She barely sang 4 songs as far as I can recall (LMBTL playback, I, DKL and BYLM) and it was not about her album, her songs, songwriters, inspirations or her guests. It was about children and there was a bunch of random singers who sang their random songs. Celine was just given an opportunity to sing more than once. And I disagree that in the US people disliked the album, I'm quite sure they don't even know she's released something new. As for the Olympic thing, I wish they would elaborate on it and explain why it hasn't been a part of promotion, what has really happened with it because even celinedion.com posted that news. 1 Quote A New Day... 10th & 11th November 2006 Taking Chances World Tour, Antwerp 13th & 14th May 2008, Kraków 28th June 2008 Celine 25th & 27th & 31st August 2013 20th, 23rd, 24th, 27th & 28th September 2016 Sans attendre Tour, Paris 1st & 5th December 2013 Encore un soir, Paris 24th, 25th, 28th, 29th June & 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 9th July 2016 Live 2017 Stockholm 17th June 2017 Lille 1st & 2nd July 2017 Paris 8th & 9th July 2017 Berlin 23rd & 24th July 2017 Live 2018 Taipei 11th & 13th July 2018 Manila 19th July 2018 Bangkok 23rd July 2018 BST Hyde Park London 5 July 2019

Andy Man Posted February 20, 2014 at 10:49 PM Posted February 20, 2014 at 10:49 PM I think in regards to the Olympics, what we will get (if anything) is that the networks will use it as the music for their end-of-olympics montage. CBC always has one that they put to some sort of Oylmpics-related song. They've done it with the Superman song form Five For Fighting, the "Good to Be Alive" song, and others. I think that for at least CBC they have probably chosen the track for that last segment (if the network is going to use it all). It is very disappointing that the song has not gained more traction, considering that this would have been such an EASY song to promote. I don't think that a video would have made much of a difference, but had Celine and Ne-yo done a few more major appearances in the U.S. and Sony gave more of an effort to promote the song at radio, this song could have been a moderate hit single. I think what we have to realize is that although Celine and her team do want the work to be a success, it is by no means a priority. Celine continues to release music because she finds pleasure from it. With her English music, she gave up trying to be relevant once she entered Vegas. Her french material has way more artistic merit than her last few English recordings and I would not mind if in the far future when Vegas is done she simply only focuses on French work (let's face it, those albums from Dion Chante Plamondon forward have always been where the true 'artist' has come out in the studio). To her credit, A New Day... was a huge artistic achievement in terms of live performance. If Celine is interested in contributing anything to the states, it seems to be on the Vegas stage. The fact that she did the duet with Ne-yo does suggest that there is still a part of her team that would like commercial success, but at the end of the day when the motivation is not there, it's not there. As long as we , the devoted fans, continue to purchase the music and see the shows, Sony will be happy. They count on us and , unlike radio and the media, we are loyal. 3 Quote
Trombones13 Posted February 20, 2014 at 10:54 PM Posted February 20, 2014 at 10:54 PM Another thought on that Monday adds date: the Olympics close on Sunday, which makes me suspect that's when we'll finally hear the aforementioned placement. Fingers crossed that it's a high-profile feature that boosts sales and encourages stations to add it on Monday. 4 Quote @KurtTrowbridge / KurtTrowbridge.com

Hopefully! It means that next week is when radio stations are encouraged by the label to put "Incredible" into their playlist and give it airplay; the song will likely be digitally delivered and they may receive physical promo materials as well. Here's a nice little write-up on that (though the "three/two/one weeks before" info can probably be ignored in this case): http://www.newindustrytips.com/tag/commercial-radio/ 6 Quote @KurtTrowbridge / KurtTrowbridge.com

Chin Posted February 21, 2014 at 09:18 AM Posted February 21, 2014 at 09:18 AM (edited) It isn't fair to say that they should have released the music video when they sang at The Voice. Yes, it was a perfect timing... but the video hadn't been filmed at that time yet! Maybe they even didn't plan to film one at that time!As we all know the video has already been filmed now, just hope that they are doing the editing fastly and going to release the final video very soon Edited February 21, 2014 at 09:20 AM by Chin Quote
garçon Posted February 21, 2014 at 10:55 AM Posted February 21, 2014 at 10:55 AM I agree that almost all of her post-2000 singles have been flops, however I can't really agree with you on this list. Most of these singles were promotional, not commercial, releases. Plus, "Then You Look at Me" and "If Walls Could Talk" don't count as they were cancelled. Promotional singles too are sent to radio stations to arouse attention and -for example- make it to the airplay chart. Then you look at me was cancelled, that too was a decision made by (or in accordance with) the record label company. Hence another example of a sad bad strategic decision imo. Quote
Xpresso Posted February 21, 2014 at 11:05 AM Posted February 21, 2014 at 11:05 AM It would be nice to see Céline and Ne-Yo on The Voice again but they were there already. I doubt the people behind The Voice would let this kind of rehash happen... and I'm sure they would be afraid that Céline shows her other boob... Quote

Thing is radios have stopped supporting her and this is why the TV promo she did was heavy. Given the fact that UK, France, Germany, US and Canada are key markets I think the promotion she did there was enough. You know, if the album had worked in US then be sure countries like Australia and Japan would have embraced the album better. I agree with you that the TV Special she did was not solely about the album, but the combination of this TV Special and her appearance on The Voice should have brought better results than sales of 28k copies... It was the week before Christmas! I come from a small country and I can't tell whether people in US knew about her record or not. You seem more certain, so can you explain how come they didn't know she has a new album out given the fact she talked about it on the shows of Ellen D, Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, Larry King + The View, Access Hollywood, Good Morning America? Moreover, isn't it a bit contradictory to say that her performance of LMBTL in Quebec created buzz while the promotion she did in US failed to even inform people of her album's existence? Del Posted February 21, 2014 at 12:52 PM Posted February 21, 2014 at 12:52 PM TPDB is not a flop. It was only released in Quebec and reached #1 in radios there. why would we even class this song as her release? The song was sung by Marc Dupre and only briefly featured her.m plus it was on his album and released by his label not hers. 2 Quote Instagram: @delphis78
