LukeD Posted February 18, 2014 at 09:11 PM Posted February 18, 2014 at 09:11 PM (edited) In my opinion, the problem is with radio stations and Sony. The first ones don't consider Celine "cool" enough to play and as for Sony, they know she'll sell either way, so they don't want to put any effort. Both Incredible and Breakaway could have become big big BIG hits but this album is doomed from the beginning. No concept, wrong concept, delays, changes, one year, two years, 4 years, later LMBTL which is really huge! but again sang during a concert and later a month without anything. They should have released the single instantly and do a video. No promotion in radios. Only TV appearances... Releasing Breakaway and Incredible as "ghost" singles. I feel like we don't have a second single still and yet there were moments when they could have done something about it. Now they are again and again postponing things and nothing happens. It's the wrong approach that other albums didn't have. And don't say it's something certain and that it's been like this for ages. Look at Sans attendre. We had 3 REAL singles, in radios, with videos and more importantly with a minitour. So they CAN do good things... but they come up with horrible decisions over and over again I think SONY made a plan based on the fact that radios would not support Celine. Therefore, Celine appeared in the biggest TV shows in US, France and UK. Instead of putting the blame on them we should probably accept the truth that people in US disliked the material Celine presented. I remind you that the week Celine was on the biggest national TV Show and had her own TV Special she sold less than 30k. And this was also the week before Christmas... Nothing could save the album at this point. Moreover the postponements and the changes of the concept seem irrelevant to how the world responded to the album, it's not as if everyone was expecting Celine's new album and got disappointed because of the delays. I also fail to see the buzz after the first performance of LMBTL. I have been saying this for months...! Anyway, I agree that her team had no real plan but to me this only explains why some fans were frustrated, it does not justify the poor sales in certain markets. The real answer is: only her team actually knows why she is still with Sony. But, it could be that she has a lot of flexibility under her contract (she is not required to produce X number of albums per year, or agree to certain promotion tours, etc.). So, she is still on a major label, but she has more control. This is just a guess though based on how often she releases albums and does promotion. If that is the case (meaning she has more control), then why would she ever leave? She can do exactly what she wants, and still have a major label standing behind her. Her goals are her own; she has a career, and continues to have a career, filled with major successes. Add that to a contract that gives her control, and it sounds like a deal and a career most artists would love to have for themselves. Has Ne-Yo promoted Incredible anywhere recently? (I am not on Twitter, so I was just wondering if he brought it up on Twitter or in any interviews lately). 4 Quote
NicoNV Posted February 20, 2014 at 01:41 AM Posted February 20, 2014 at 01:41 AM She's loyal. A rare thing in showbusiness. This could also be a factor. Everything you read about Rene discusses how loyal he is, so maybe loyalty plays a role in it too. It is still a business though, so I doubt even for loyalty he would stick to a deal that her or her career. So, there has to be some advantage to the contract terms themselves as well. Quote

Popular Post dj4celine Posted February 20, 2014 at 08:46 PM Popular Post Posted February 20, 2014 at 08:46 PM Anyone hoping that Celine would leave Sony should just get a reality check as that is NEVER happening. First, like someone above posted, under her contract, she has the freedom to promote her releases as and according to her schedule. Second, Rene has a huge stake in Sony Canada (insider tidbit). Thirdly, the music business is complete different to what it had been in the 90s (her heyday years) or even the early 2000s. Sure she has a legendary status in the music business but that doesn't mean she's immune to the downturn in the business. 8 Quote
