Told ya! Lol

Told who, me? This isn't new information - they've always said it was just one take. I questioned this, and others (not you) gave concise and well informed arguments, took the primary material, isolated it, slowed it down, and proved it to me and others. You haven't added anything but negativity to what was intended to be a socratic discussion.

I replied to myself if you haven’t seen it :)

Though still I’m correct lol

Wow! Negativity how?

I'm not a fan of TH and wish they would have sang a better duet together.

But seeing them together it's amazing.

I enjoy the song and the vibe/video...but I think their recording itself could've been better. I wonder if we'll ever get the audio from the video (where the clip is from) because their dubbed audio was from their actual time in the studio separately as I understood it.

I gave her review a listen so listened to the album in full. It’s still so good! It really maintains its vibe and mood throughout. Modern masterpiece

I think that’s more a “today” mindset. Back in the 90s, artists had one single at a time. And MHWGO went and above and beyond. It was THE song that was played everywhere. It’s why she’s known for it. It’s why SNL began making fun of her. It’s why she has a lasting career. You can’t downplay what that song and that movie were like during 1997-1998. Nothing had been that big in a long time. It was a different world.

Exactly, back then artists would promote only one single for a longer period of time and when it left the charts they would launch the next one. MHWGO was everywhere for months. You could listen to it on the radio in different stations every 5 minutes. This song helped to sell more than 65M albums in a year (LTAL and Titanic OST). So I totally understand when Celine takes it a bit slower now, she promoted more between 97 and 98 than many artists in their whole careers.

lol it’s quite funny because youngsters nowadays don’t even know who Barbara is, so I think that no one really cares about that

It’s not about the youngsters. They’re finally doing something for the fans. Hope this continues.

I’m hoping they’ll upload the official videos for: “My Heart Will Go On,” “Beauty And The Beast,” “Because You Loved Me,” “Live (For The One I Love),” “Delivre-moi,” “Je danse dans ma tete” and “Sous le vent” next. As well as audio videos for: “Tous les secrets,” “The Reason,” “Seduces Me,” “God Bless America,” “Ain’t Gonna Look The Other Way,” “The Power Of The Dream,” “Be The Man (On This Night)” (Japanese Version), “Sola otra vez,” “A New Day Has Come (Album Version),” “Je t’aime encore” [“One Heart”], “I Knew I Loved You” and “Dance With My Father.” These are all missing from her channel. Adding semi-rarities like “Love You Blind,” “Send Me A Lover” and “Cry Just A Little” would be great, too, but I don’t see that happening.

I'm not really satisfied with that, cause it's just a super old video from the 90s that they've uploaded. I've had in on my DVD for years. If they want to do sth for the fans, they better upload a proper making of the photo shoot in Utah! That would be awesome. By the way, they made the effort to travel all the way to utah for a photoshoot. That is remarkable, isn't it?

I have zero hope for “Cry Just a Little” and “Love You Blind” but you’d be surprised how much “Send Me a Lover” gets played on the radio here in Romania.

Eh..not to me. She has a private plane, and leaving form Vegas it would take less than an hour to fly there...perhaps they even flew into a small municipal airport near the spa. Plus, maybe Celine stayed for a night or two and some treatment.

I also just realized I forgot that “Open Arms,” “The Reason I Go On” and “Map To My Heart” aren’t on her channel either.

There are so many more rarities that I, too, would love to hear in HD quality:

Wishful Thinking, Can’t We Try, Cant Live With You.., Tonight We Dance, Ziggy (english), Michael’s Song, Hard to Say Goodbye/ Mejor Decir Adios, etc.

Am I right in thinking we get to hear the radio version of TH with the newly uploaded video? I hear the extra drums and guitar! Or maybe I'm going crazy.

Does anyone else find it funny that “Why Oh Why” was produced by David Foster while “Love Is On the Way” by Ric Wake? Shouldn’t it be the other way around? I can imagine them in the studio going “I’ll do one of yours and you do one of mine, just for fun”.

No. What I meant is that Ric Wake is usually the one who produces the reggae-like songs while David Foster does the power ballads. This time though it was the other way around, which is surprising to me. The songs were written by other people.

Anyone have the full Let's Talk About Love recording sessions in good quality? Like the full 30+ minute compilation they did, or broadcast, rather than just song-by-song?

Did it get taken off YouTube? There used to be a video almost an hour long.

I know the production of MHWGO is everyone's favorite topic, so here's something I came across randomly today on the Sound On Sound website (a site about music production). They did a "Classic Mix" flashback. Doesn't resolve the one-take vs. Afanasieff issue though... :-D

https://www.soundonsound.com/people/mix-review-0117

Classic Mix: Celine Dion ‘My Heart Will Go On’ (1997)

tmr011705-6yAJuhIkR1gU4wqh3C7y1N0xPRbVgtjf.jpgWhether or not the overbearing sentimentality of this production makes you want to throw up (a view apparently expressed, somewhat richly, by Kate Winslet, lead actress in the overbearingly sentimental film the song accompanies), it does feature a corking final-chorus key change that’s rarely been paralleled in mainstream pop. Taking us from E major (four sharps) to Ab major (four flats), it’s at once profoundly unsettling and yet somehow surprisingly logical, and therefore demands the scrutiny of any student of popular harmony.

Personally, I think its secret ingredient is actually melodic more than anything, though, the result of two opposing scales working in opposition: the falling scale in the bass (C#-B-A-G#-F#-F-Eb-Db), which covers a complete octave; and the rising tin whistle line (B-C#-D-E-F#-G#) which is extended a further step by dovetailing enharmonically with the opening notes of Dion’s vocal melody (Ab-Bb). Although neither scale conforms to any traditional Western key or mode, I think it’s the implacable stepwise motion across the boundary that’s largely responsible for smoothing such a stark key change.

Which brings me to the issue of the song’s two versions: one from Titanic’s soundtrack, with a more restrained arrangement and comparatively understated vocal levels; and the second slightly shorter one from Dion’s album Let’s Talk About Love, with more upfront lead vocal and various pop-centric arrangement alterations. For my money, the former makes a considerably better job of the key change, on two counts. Firstly, it plants that falling five-note bass line in the listener’s consciousness in both of the preceding choruses (at 1:09 and 2:28 respectively), where the other version sticks to more conventional lines. And, secondly, it features the rising whistle line more prominently in the mix, strengthening its melodic linking effect. By contrast the ‘pop’ version tries to conjure momentum more by textural means, using a big drum fill and a blend of percussion swells, but I think that rings a bit hollow by comparison.

I like the soundtrack’s lower vocal level too, not because I’m as offended by Celine’s melodramatic vocal stylings as many of my colleagues, but simply because the backing track’s opulent sonics become easier to appreciate — check out the lashings of 20-40 Hz sub-bass, for instance, or the rhythmic 16th-note slapback-style pre-delay on the side-stick reverb from 1:41. That said, I do marginally prefer the verse harmonies in the pop version, which establish the major mode more firmly with Bb-Eb cadences, setting the repeated Bb-C#m interrupted cadences of the chorus in sharper relief. My favourite harmonic turn in the pop version, though, is another modulatory moment, where a chromatic rise in the bass line gives a fleeting Bb-G-C#m cadence in the middle of the second verse.

Hey, maybe someone could do a new version putting together the best harmonies of both? Actually, on second thoughts, two versions are already more than enough... Mike Senior

Do we think Toni Braxton's huge success with songs like Un-Break My Heart influenced Celine and Rene for the Let's Talk About Love album?

Celine sings in her lower register on songs like Why Oh Why, and it always sounds a little forced to me.

Why oh why is one on my favorite. She nails it. The vibe is so chill, her low voice almost whispering at times is crystal clear. And the high notes “HEYYYY! HEYYY HEYYYY” very rnb... but still very celine

I've pretty much always skipped the song.

And I don't like its placement on the Let's Talk About Love album.

I wish the song was placed later in the tracklist.

But I'll listen again soon with an open mind.
