"Let's Talk About Love" album - Official Topic

THLAL was originally a Diana King done in 1995. This makes it feel weird then how Celine took all the attention when they performed it live at the 1998 Essence Awards. It's like if she performed "If You Asked Me To" with Patti and then took all the lead vocals.

That seems low.

this version sounds better. I prefer the English lyric. She overdoes it in her version

This story still gets me every time

https://jimsteinman.com/sacred.htm

It's fascinating.

I'm glad that Carole King doesn't hold a grudge against Celine.

She's only ever spoken very highly of her.

Being on a Celine Dion album in 1997 would be like winning the lottery. Rene and Celine knew that.

My favorite tracks on Let's Talk About Love are the ones where the writers refused to be impacted by this drama.

They stand out as far superior over the other songs.

I can only imagine how legendary the album could have been if they included the songs from those veteran songwriters from previous Celine albums.

It would have more of that magic spark that's on Falling Into You.

I've always thought this was a common thing on the industry. Apparently, back then it wasn't. Today, there's artists who ask for as much as 50% of the rights just to record.

absolutely! I also think that LTAL is quite forgettable and lacks some really epic songs. FIY and ANDHC are by far superior. And MHWGO was only this successful because of the Titanic hype Edited by ryba

I disagree. I think the English lyrics are quite predicable and cheesy, the chorus at least. Celine lifted the energy and BPM of the music and then raised her voice to match, and Spanish lyrics make more sense with a Spanish guitar.

The melody is great in both, but I think Celine's version really takes the cake in this case.

I wonder which Diane Warren song didn’t end up on LTAL?

The Australian singer Tina Arena have a song called If I Was A River on her album In Deep from 1997. Maybe it was written for Celine and that's the song Run Like A River?

wow, what a beautiful song. It has a very 90s vibe to it. I really like it. And it’s produced by the people who always worked with Celine. I wish it ended up on LTAL instead of these fillers that have zero uniqueness.

Ooh, yeah

If I was the sun

I would shine my light

To light your world

And If I was the rain

I would wash your tears away

I'd keep your world bright

Be your light in the night

If I was the sky

I would rain down love into your life

If, If I was a river

You would be my ocean

Every stream would

Lead me to your arms and if

If I was a river

I'd flow to you forever

Love would run forever

In this heart of mine

If I If I was a river yeah

If I was the wind

I would carry you

Above the clouds

And if I was the earth

I would be your solid ground

If I could I'd be

All you ever need

I would be your world

You're the only world there is for me oh

If, if I was a river

You would be my ocean

Every stream would

Lead me to your arms and if

If I was a river

I'd flow to you forever

Love would run…

I think the lyrics are beautiful and the song fits on the LTAL album. And yes, Celine would have done a better job.

If it wasn’t for their greed of royalties, we could have had that song on the album lol I also wonder what other possible hits were not included because of that. It’s interesting that they never worked with Jim Steinman again, even though he was responsible for IACBTMN, one of Celines signature songs Edited by ryba

For me FIY is her best English album.

But LTAL is special to me: My Heart Will Go On and this album made me a fan. Songs like US, The Reason, Miles To Go, Love Is On The Way, Where Is The Love, When I Need You, Immortality and To Love You More are Classic Celine ♥️

“Is Nothing Sacred” is a Steinman song and fell to the fate of the publisher’s rights drama.

Did we get Where Is The Love in place of Is Nothing Sacred right?

Zero uniqueness??

“Love Is On The Way” was actually recorded and meant to be on the FIY album. Beautiful lyrics and a powerhouse performance.

“Miles To Go (Before I Sleep)” I think was one of Celine’s most different songs in her discography at the point of it’s release.

“Us” needs no explanation. Exquisite.

“Where Is The Love” I think was ahead of it’s time, quite honestly. Definitely a song very much appropriate for what is going on in this world today.

“The Reason” was definitely not Celine’s every day power ballad.

“When I Need You” I think this is one of Celine’s best produced cover songs.

“Immortality” is a masterpiece, which is not something to be said about the majority of Celine’s English work.

I think LTAL has plenty of it’s own charm and uniqueness. The songs also have sounds that mix well together to create a mood. They’re different but comprehensive to the ear at the same time. Definitely a rather well rounded effort.
