New English Album - "Water and a Flame" (Pre-Release Thread Part 1)

The album with Vegas covers could be good choice when show started, but of course there was no time to recorded it while Vegas show started in so short time after twins were born, but now after long waiting they could bring more new songs, and what I absolutly don´t undestand why they postoped french album after english it´s the most long waiting for new songs in all Céline´s career, but let´s wait and see what finally happen, maybe finally we will be happy with this new english album.

Totally agree with Javito. Doing covers that is not that well known is another story, but doing big songs like ''Man in the Mirror'' and ''Goldfinger'' might be the worse decision ever. The critics will slaughter her, just like they did with ''I Drove All Night'' and ''Alone''. I have a feeling it will be even worse. MJ is just one of that artists that should never be covered. The tribute in Vegas is nice and people understand that she was a huge fan of MJ, but on a CD it is a total different story. I really hope she only records the three songs mentioned.

 

My feeling is that if they are really blocked and have no inspiration for a new English album, they should consider doing a Christmas album instead untill they can bring something amazing to the table.

maybe calling her a karaokesinger was not okay, and you cannot make comparisons with elvis or sinatra, it is just that Celine has made so much albums in the past, enough material to fill a show with, that singing covers is almost like she is saying i am not confident of my own repertoire. But she has enough to work with. About the karaokesinger comment I made, I just tried to point out that by singing only covers she becomes a coversinger, singing songs done before, no original material. My Heart Will Go On was written for her and it became her biggest hit, because you loved me was written for her as well and we can go on and on.

 

Probably the problem is the music industry since 2000. The 80's and 90's ballads era has finished and luckily will never come back, the low quality hits machine started with BackStreet Boys, Britney Spears, N'Sync and a big etc... that started at the end of 90's and the beginning of 2000 and has ended too (luckily too) and now there is some ways: The reboot of the classic music started with Amy Winehouse and followed by Duffy, Adele, Rumer, Bublé, Jamie Cullum, Caro Emerald, Cee-lo (this last one more or less..) etc... Other way it's a kind of new machine pop which Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga, Katy Perri, Britney Spears, Kesha, etc has found their way. Then it's the David Guetta way and everybody wants a seat next to him (probably for the next year at most. The new american reggaeton with Pitbull and J-lo and where other rappers (Flo-rida, NeYo etc have found a way for fast money and *censored*) and the tipical R&B and Hip Hop group (Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Rihanna, Kanye West, etc...) So, WHERE DO WE PUT OUR DIVA?? For me she should take the first choice, the classy way, with or without covers, I don't mind, but the problem is that the success in here, specially with Winehouse and Adele, it's because they sung about their broken hearted feelings and depression way of life in beautiful songs that moves the feelings of the people. And celine Dion only sings about how wonderful life it's for her in her Florida Resort with her perfect family, what it is perfect, but normally don't move any other thing than the envy of the people (that's probably why there is so much haters) so she can sing in the way of Sinatra, Fitzgerald, Julie London, Peggy Lee, Bennett, Astaire, Judy Garland or Barbra. They sing about how wonderful life is and love, how beautiful you look tonight, Flyers to the moon, the smile on your face... cheek to cheek, but now it sounds with the innocence and the melancholia of better days that has gone by...

 

Or she can do whatever she wants that finally is what she is going to do and we are going to buy the CD anyway... hahahahahaha

now for cover songs well some songs has been cover by so many people and people still doing it fro eg.. what a wonderful world, my way, Nessun Dorma, Nella Fantasia, Hero and so on (especially for opera singers / songs, also those duet albums) they all do it over and over again and i don't see what's wrong with it

i understand for some like MJ songs or those Bond songs but still nothing's wrong with cover them and i believe Celine will bring something new to the song and make it her own. i don't really care what critics says it's just depends on the person. and didn't Celine made the best IACBTMN / ABM / TPOL cover out of them all......

 

of course i would love a new album with all new songs but if it's cover album i don't mind too!

 

and talking about singers who sings what they went through and stuff.... this make me think Celine should actually record her own songs! for eg I'm gonna love you forever and maybe Celine should write a song about losing a child at her early pregnancy.

 

so hopefuly we'll get more news soon and get like 16 song album or more with maybe at least 5 new songs that would be amazing!!

I don't mind cover songs being included on any album, Celine's done her fair share over the years. The problem for me would be using these covers as promotion! Taking the ANDHC album as an example she promoted that album with the singles ANDHC and IA and the album was a mega success. Sure the album still had the covers on it but these weren't sent to radio or overly performed. The difference it seems since that time is that it's ALL about promoting the covers. I Drove All Night, Beautiful Boy, Taking Chances, Alone. Cover. Cover. Cover. Cover. To promote the world's best selling female artists new albums?

 

As Claudette has said, if they are up against a creative block then perhaps they need to leave it just now instead of this endless cycle of covers.

If only there was some kind of balance between all the amount of covers she performs and her own original material... But there isn't. The only balance comes from songs like MHWGO, BYLM, IACBTMN, and these are performed ALWAYS on every concert she does since 15 years

Octobre 2010: René said all songs are selected and are waiting for recording by Céline

March 2011: French album in septembre, octobre 2011, Luc Plamondon needs more time for write songs

September 2011: english album spring 2012 french bit later, What will we hear next time? New french album will be out in spring 2013? I´m not sure if this french album will be out one day ...

but now seriously, if they change their plans and new english album will be real, new studio album with new songs (and few covers) promoting by new song as single than I´m OK with this dates, but if new english album si going to be covers+3 new songs as René said for Salut Bonjour than this is real disappoitment. It´s so so long next one year waiting for new Céline´s songs.

"Come To Me" is not a cover, "Baby Close Your Eyes" is. And "Miracle", too.

 

I knew it was one or the other! LOL! Is Miracle really a cover? I thought it was only recorded like a demo before

 

 

I'm happy we finally have a sort of date! I guess we're talking about a Valentine release !!! Hopefully it will be a real LOVE album!

There's something I don't understand, why is "It's all coming back to me now" considered a cover? She got the song first didn't she? She has done the original recording. I know Meat Loaf and Steinman (?) had already written the song but disagreed on what to do with it or something. Meat Loaf ended up not using it for the album he was recording and Steinman gave it to Celine.

 

Doesn't that make Celine's version the original? Meat Loaf recorded his version for his latest album as a duet with some other chick singer (and thus proving that Celine actually did the song much better justice). I like Meat Loaf but he didn't bring anything special to the song in his duet version.

 

But anyway, what's the deal? Why is Celine's version considered a cover when she released it first?
