zuv Posted October 3, 2011 at 03:52 PM Posted October 3, 2011 at 03:52 PM i know its very old news (like 4-5 days) but I'M GLAD WE OFFICIALLY KNOW ITS RECORDED IN STUDIO AND NOT ANOTHER LIVE ALBUM FIOUU
Javito Posted October 3, 2011 at 05:50 PM Posted October 3, 2011 at 05:50 PM Am I the only one who doesn't see the use of studio recordings of these songs? We know we'll get the corresponding live CD of the show, as well as the DVD eventually. So, where's the use of it? Why this obfuscation with studio recordings of live songs? Normally its just the inverse, a song she's performing live from a studio recording she's done before... but they do everything the other way around Wouldn't be much more sensible to record completely new stuff? Matias Posted October 3, 2011 at 06:00 PM Posted October 3, 2011 at 06:00 PM (edited) I've been a fan for more tnhan 15 years and I think I am entitled to have my opinion and not because I think the "lets-make a crappy album with covers" project is junk It doesn't mean I don't love her or I am not a good fan, If I weren't I wouldn't give a dime, but since we ALL know what Celine is capable of (music wise) it saddens me that she chooses (or her team) covers of songs that won't take her even to the top ten list on Billboard or any othr chart... But if you ask me what's the best side considering all her talent and her incredible voice, yes, I too gree she's wasting her talent today with this show. Absolutely. But not happy with that, it seems they want to waste also her (scarce today) recording time in the studio doing studio versions of these songs. As if it wasn't enough with having them live dozens of times with the current show Edited October 3, 2011 at 06:46 PM by Javito "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"

I think it makes perfect sense, at least for Celine's team. Thats huge publicity for the show, don't you think? Specially if they plan to stay there for 5 yrs. People will buy the album as it is more accesible than going to the show. Then they'll give their opinion of the album (high quality vocally and musically, almost perfect) and then decide whether or not they will go see the show performed live. I think its brilliant... But you're right, its the inverse of what they usually do. but why not? Its sucks for us in a way because for most of the album it wont be a surprise, since we heard the songs before from the show... but thats probably less than 1% of the total people that will buy the album anyway. If they give us an entirely new album, that means an entirely new show. think about it. $$$$$$(and don't forget there will be new songs too on the album) Edited October 3, 2011 at 07:06 PM by zuv

stevo Posted October 3, 2011 at 07:42 PM Posted October 3, 2011 at 07:42 PM I personally can't wait to hear her version of Open Arms, and no doubt NMQP will be stunning. To see Celine in person? maybe. But i much prefer to get an high quality album, than a live album that i will listen for 2-3 weeks and then forget about it, like i forgot about TC world tour, a new day... live in LV and Au Coeur du Stade. If they don't want to do that it's just because they don't want to. She has enough career and a position in the industry in which she could even release her own music. She used to release different projects and separate each one in the past. Now they like to mix it all, and that can do everything except give some coherence to her discography (that is in need of some by the way) "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"

So its not the same thing. The album came first then the show. Here its different, she had nothing to promote, because she didnt release anything. She's just doing it backwards. So she had a good base (ANDHC)to start with for the show, and then she released other albums along the way... and the show was changed a little bit along the way too... The situation is totally different here. TCH? as Taking Chances? well that did not change the show for sure, since she was going on a world tour to promote it. She worked so hard on that show, that it deserves to be promoted with a studio album and then in a year or 2 a completely new studio album could be released. But i think we understand each other's view on this, its clear to me, but i dont expect you to go along with it. its ok.
mirage Posted October 3, 2011 at 09:40 PM Posted October 3, 2011 at 09:40 PM OMG nobody said it will be full of show covers!Maybe it will contain just 3 songs from the show, and that is normal on a Celine cd. To have some covers! And maybe it will contain 16 songs from te show, I don't care I want just music from Celine :-)
SlovakClark Posted October 4, 2011 at 09:11 AM Posted October 4, 2011 at 09:11 AM Well because before A New Day, she had released an album ANDHC which was promoted in that show. Yes i mean Taking Chances:) I understand what u say, but I think they should make a good compromise release album with new songs, slowtempo of course, so that fit with a show and then just add some new songs, or replace some I even throw away an idea of fresh pop album long ago, now just hope for a new material, jazz, ballads i really dont care already. Now i dont think it is a big "requirement" from a fan 5 years from last album to capture just this, do you? http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/320x240q90/853/qwz9.jpg

Now i dont think it is a big "requirement" from a fan 5 years from last album to capture just this, do you? That's what I think. The album doesn't need to be uptempo because it won't fit the show, but it should have original songs, no more than 3 or 4 covers. There've been so many rumors about song writers that I hope we'll have new material
Javito Posted October 4, 2011 at 10:43 AM Posted October 4, 2011 at 10:43 AM At this stage, do they care if the album was supposed to include uptempo or dance songs instead of ballads that fit in the show? I don't think so. Why they wouldn't release an album completely unnconected with the show theme? That's what I don't understand. Taking Chances hadn't anything to do with "A New Day" and Cirque du soleil way of work, so, what's the problem? Sorry but the idea that they had to think and reject so many good songs that people may be sending her just because they're not in the line of the show irritates me so much "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"
SlovakClark Posted October 4, 2011 at 01:13 PM Posted October 4, 2011 at 01:13 PM to be honest the think irritates me much more than this album stuff is what Celine told in new documentary, that she dont care about showbizz, since its all about what Rene decide to do.I know, she takes us a look to her personal life, but her attitude about singing as a job to feed her family cant work for fans forever. I wanna see a passion about singing, recording albums, make videos, thats what makes my heart to feel like a true fan someone care about, not just jobsinging, it isnt satisfied me.Maybe i am to sensitive but thats what i need to feel from my beloved artist http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/320x240q90/853/qwz9.jpg
Davey84 Posted October 4, 2011 at 01:33 PM Posted October 4, 2011 at 01:33 PM (edited) Now the real pressure begins. What does the most internationally acclaimed Quebecoise singer in history do for an encore? She gets down to work. "It's still a wonderful dream, but I realize I'm working hard, that all my team is working hard," she says. "And that's why there's more pressure." The pressure came in sifting through more than 300 songs to come up with the 15 on The Colour of My Love, and in the overall increase indemands on her time. Dion says she is more involved than ever in the day-to-day wheel-cranking that moves the gleaming star machine from an interview before the release of TCOML http://www.canada.com/montrealgazette/From...7739/story.html Don't tell me Céline doesn't receive 300 songs anymore for a new album! I don't mind a FEW songs from the show as an album track (BUT they have to be much better than the jobs they did with IIC and WAWW ) but I do hope that they are still searching for the best songs out there, and not take crap they get from befriended writers and producers for granted... I wish Céline had that passion back of wanting to make her new album better than the last album! I wish Céline had that passion back of wanting to make her new album better than the last album! She lost that after ANDHC, she had is a bit with TC, but that album suffered wrong decisions ) Exactly!! I absolutely agree with both of you, that's what I miss from her!. And when I say "miss" it's because I REALLY miss that other side of the artist. I mean all the motherhood speech she's been using since 2002 its OK, yes being a mother must be the most rewarding thing in your life and she deserves it so much. But I thought this would last one year, two at most. But we've been inundated by the same comments and chit-chat about her family life since 2002. What about the artist inside? Where is it gone? Where's gone the passion to surpass with each new album the last recording? Because, if I recall well, in 2006 she was still fierce about her career and said in a french interview that "she wanted to be on the top charts again and that she would clain her throne before Beyoncé's and Madonna's" This motherhood speech has not to be incompatible with showing interest in your job. And like Davey says, I really miss the Celine Dion interested in recording new albums, shooting videoclips and promoting the new music she records to show it to the world as much as possible. The fan inside me is what expects in the end "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"
Daysleeper Posted October 4, 2011 at 02:42 PM Posted October 4, 2011 at 02:42 PM from an interview before the release of TCOML http://www.canada.com/montrealgazette/From...7739/story.html Don't tell me Céline doesn't receive 300 songs anymore for a new album! She lost that after ANDHC, she had is a bit with TC, but that album suffered wrong decisions ) That's right. I think Taking Chances was a step into the right direction, but the whole idea about it wasn't sufficiently elaborated. Still it's a nice album. Talking about Céline's covers, I think we can distinguish two different kinds. The ones that were big classics or hits (like "The First Time Ever I saw Your Face", "River Deep Mountain High", "All The Way", "All By Myself", "Alone" etc.) and the ones that didn't have a big global success or were forgotten over the years ("Unison", "Falling Into You", "Ten Days", "Tu nages" etc.)Larger audience, as well as the fans, discovered these songs thanks to Céline and she made them more popular. While covering the old classics will always be little bit risky because of the critics and it doesn't give a chance to the fans to discover a new material (only a different interpretation). Also, those songs would not be related to Céline. I don't mind if she has a cover or two on the album, but those songs should be more like album fillers.Choosing to record the old classics and introducing them to the public again and again is somehow a lack of inspiration and imagination which is indispensable for any form of art. Well that's my opinion...

We're flooded with classics of each kind everywhere, and enough is enough. If only for 1 of each "Goldfinguer" she introduced another 1 of her own never-performed songs... that would be something at least, there would exist some kind of balance. Even if it was already performed in Falling Into You Tour it was a kind of a refreshment for our ears. I think Céline was already criticized about the lack of her own songs in her shows. Or Halfway To Heaven (the live performance with a saxophone would be OR-GAS-MIC), Next Plane Out, Water From The Moon or The Greatest Reward? Why can't this happen? I didn't know she had been already criticised for this in 1987, but in her defense I can say that in the 1985 "C'est Pour Toi" tour , she also included english covers when she didn't even knew english language (Over The Rainbow, What A Feeling, Up Where We Belong) and also french covers. I can understand that because she was in her begginings and she had to build her international career yet. It's understandable that back in 1985 she resorted to covers. But after 1985? There had been 16 english and french albums (easy to say!) with dozens and dozens of original songs written for her. Is really a need to do such setlist in 2011? I don't think so. The commentator says that she had some critics about performing the songs of other artists and that she doesn't have her own repertoire in the show neither her own style. I don't know if you understand French. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKz0C4CSq0Y it's at 1:57 Yes, it is totally OK if the young artists make covers. And it is nice to see Céline back then how much effort she put into singing in English. But after so many years she just doesn't need to sing classics so much. Because she IS a classic by herself. But okay, I'm not so negative... Acctually I'm happy about the fact that she sings "Where Does My Heart Beat Now" again. One of my favorite songs ever Edited October 4, 2011 at 04:25 PM by Daysleeper

I have no idea what they're thinking about this "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"
zuv Posted October 4, 2011 at 09:15 PM Posted October 4, 2011 at 09:15 PM (edited) Was she ever asked though?: why did you prefere covering songs in your show instead of singing you're own songs, your songs that never been performed? Maybe there is a personal reason, or maybe its for profitable reasons. Maybe they think the general public (meaning much more people) would be more attracted to the show. Lets face it, the reason why there are MJ songs on the show, is mostly because he is dead and his fans still want to see and hear his songs performed. Again its the idea of attracting more people. MHWGO is still performed for the same reason. People visiting Vegas are rich and old for the majority... no wonder the covers will also be old. Also, the general public knows that Celine has a great voice, but the reason why people wont adhere to her is mostly because Celine sings power ballades and love songs. by singing other songs, the hesitant and doubtful people are more likely to go see the show. Unfortunately no residency shows or world tour will ever be custom made for fans of this forum... We can only wish for a one time Special event. Edited October 4, 2011 at 09:19 PM by zuv

So you agree that the "Celine" setlist is no other than a show tailored to Las Vegas and Caesars Palace requirements, don't you? That's what I think too Agree also with the MJ tribute. Yes she may be a big fan of him and he was an inspiration to her, but why she didn't care before 2009 to pay him tribute in previous concerts? I'm not blaming her don't take me wrong, but I do think since the moment I saw the setlist that there was some opportunism behind that decission. I mean, every singer is praising MJ music and his talent today, when they didn't gave a damn in his life. Of course including a medley of his songs was another rabbit in the top hat for Caesars Palace Honestly, she had no need to do a show full of covers like this, if she had travelled a 30 year career full of hits and top quality songs, it wasn't to end this way doing a show full of other people's songs Was this her wish? I don't think she even have a say in the theme, honestly!. We perfectly know René is the one in charge with these aspects, so probably all the idea about popular songs and tributes was proposed (*demanded*??) by Caesars Palace people and René just agreed. Which in terms of Céline comes to mean that she just said "yes" in order to "please him", as we've seen lately that she just wants and loves to make him happy "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"
