I agree, with you 100% on that. I am sick, of it to.

:lmao: @ Céline's Blues! You do know he is sarcastic, right?

Is there a way we can create a poll in this topic, or do we have to create a new topic so we can see what the percentage people is who like the idea of the show covers versus those of us who want new material? I have a feeling more people will go with the second. Although some people seem blinded by their obsession with Celine, so not sure how accurate it will be.

A lot of people say there is a lot of negativity on here lately, but has some of you actually wondered why? It definitely cannot be the case that so many people all of a sudden turned into haters. The fact that so many people are negative about the current situation in Celine's career is a clear indication that there is definitely a problem. I think we are all just frustrated to see somebody's talents go down the drain.

I know we've only had 3 songs confirmed on the new album so we can't really judge too much, but I'm excited that the interviewer referenced Barbra Streisand. Celine's pop career is over so I'd much prefer an album where she just utilizes her voice on material that will showcase it best, and especially now when she's in such great vocal shape.

I am hoping for a studio version of Mr. Paginini as well.

I'm pretty neutral on the whole CD thing. I agree that we need some fresh new material like she had in the 90s (by 90s I mean really original, not only the trends in the 90s), but I don't like bashing anything until we have full, complete, and thorough details on the album, or until I have the album in my hands, nor do I think we should all be completely happy either. Of course everyone has the right to their opinion and it's wrong to put someone down because they are complaining. Yes, it can be a bit irritating when all you see is negativity surrounding the album, but we all have our opinons. I personally just want to wait until the new album is released to get really worked up or excited.

No need to be down each other's throats just because we disagree on a broad summary of the new album given in an interview.

Common.. relax! I can't understand what's the problem with the covers... It seems that some of you speak of Celine like if she was a perfect songwriter that started making covers a few years ago... She is a SINGER, a PERFORMER... Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald.. The greatest voices in music history made a lot of classic covers...

I'm happy with Ne Me Quitte Pas and At 17... great songs for a great voice, I prefer much more classic covers of great songs than "original" low quality pop songs about love in the earth. I would like a studio version of Summertime or Somewhere (in the classy style of Tom Waits from West Side Story) too.

I guess some ppl here aren't tired of seeing ppl bebating whether they want covers or new materials, at least not for me. I think it is absolutely fine to do that, that's one of the main purposes of the forum, and we could even send letters to her management company, the record company or fan club regarding the concerns. But I get a bit irritated when I see ppl sounding like they could say on behalf of all the fans, and he/she knows how Celine's career should be handled, and he/she could do a better job than Rene, without knowing the whole picture in the first place.

And if I have to choose between having a Celine who follows whatever her fans say, and a Celine who does what she wants, I would prefer the latter one.

Well said, we are not worse fans now than before. I love Celine as much as always but it's not true that everything she does is positive. And exactly we didn't like the blond hair (I think Celine didn't either as it was to build some image for the show which didn't work) and THEN they heard OUR opinions.I am only disappointed about her career no her family or personality. It's even getting better and nicer. It's not that I would hate her for this coverful album but it's not what we expect at this particular time.

I have nothing against covers, she has already recorded lots of them but this time enough is enough and due tu her amazing voice conditions these days it will be a huge waste

René said severals songs from Vegas show, there is nothing in this article about 3 covers and 13 new songs, if it would be like that I would be happy! Let´s wait until October 1st for more details.

This is HILARIOUS!!!!!! Especially the agreeing with Seb (whose posts I miss!) ! LOL

I suggest 3 forums:

1 for those who wear rose-colored glasses where Celine and Rene could do no wrong. Where rainbows and unicorns bow to la diva and her husband---and we will dedicate it to all of the parents and children of the world.

1 for the negatives fans who hate everything that Celine does. The ones that like to come on here ever though they detest Celine. It would be decorated like a Baroque painting from hell.

1 for us realists who have loved Celine for over a decade and like to discuss our likes and dislikes. Somewhat like this forum used to be. One for people that make a comment and for others to reply in a civilized manner of why they do or do not agree.

oh, yeah, and one more dedicated to "Notre dame: La diva de Quebec" where all we talk about is how difficult and miraculous it is to be a mother----dedicating it to all of the mothers of the world.

"People pay 20-25 dollars to see you."

Forget any pop songs people. I'm sure she will now follow Barbra's or Michael Bubblé's style. I really think her team wants to put her in that "league". Which means she won't try any more Taking Chances type of albums or anything new and modern.

Many people won't like that but her albums will sell (like Bubblé's or even Susan Boyle's cover albums).

I'd prefer something completely new but I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon.

Celine's music is like good sex. In this particular case, Celine's been teasing and tempting us for 4 years and then falling asleep as soon as we get to her.

And oh God, I truly hope she's not going down the Buble or Streisand road with ther music style.

That would be just awful.

How can anybody say that Celine must fallow Barbra or Michael Buble paths? Barbra is like 80 years old and Buble built his career on covers, is a different case, but Celine is 43 (40 is the new 30 they say) and have such a beautiful voice and talent to waste it doing other people songs. Of course I am not saying she couldn’t include three or four songs from the show on the new album (she always has some covers on her albums) but all covers and only three new songs?? It is a shame to waste her voice on that. I can’t picture her new album with songs like Godfinger, Lullaby, Bean, At Seventeen… I just can’t

That's the point Manuel, I agree. I though Céline's voice was enough talented and unique to be used to record original songs as much as possible, and build a great discography full of original recordings, but not to be wasted this way, mainly doing covers and songs from others all the time. She should care to build her own legacy too but apparently, it stopped with MHWGO in 1999 :ermm:

But to Céline, René & Sony eyes it does not seem to be like this :ermm:

Streisand is 69, not 80.

I don't mind Celine singing these songs at all, I loved hearing her voice doing the Bond songs and "How Do You Keep The Music Playing." They are songs I always wanted to hear her sing. While I'm not against an album of show songs, I also think that she should still create NEW music. This album I was fine with back in March (when it was all new).

Celine should sing some classics while she's at her vocal best, but she should also leave her comfort zone.

I don't mind her covers at all. I mean one of my absolute favourites of Celine is "The Power of Love" (I find her version to completely overshadow Jennifer Rush's original, no disrespect meant to the latter of course) but it is time to stop banking on a cover for media attention and instant success.

It's like Hollywood these days, only making "remakes" or "based on the best selling novel"... how about making an original movie? I know there are plenty of original movies but I sure would love to see original blockbuster movies of quality.

Music seems to be the same with X Factor contestants (the quality degrading over the years) populating the charts. That's why Lady Gaga was such a breath of fresh air (a genuine talent who didn't owe her success to being on a weekly show, three nights a week, with syrupy video montages, etc but to her own skills) and same with Adele. Those two have rejuvenated the mainstream music scene big time in the past 2 years or so.

Celine can have a comeback. Jennifer Lopez's brand was also plummeting big time (her sex symbol status didn't stop her album "Brave" to tank badly). With the right song, right concept, you can come back. Especially when the talent is there. You may argue that JLo is untalented and I'd say that she is, but that's not the debate right now lol.

I have hopes for this english album, even though I agree with those who say that Celine and her team most likely won't try to be relevant again and just do the minimum to secure the Vegas show for another few years or more, but I take some comfort in thinking that even if her international career is on its sunset, the French one has still some fight in it somewhat.

Because it's the path for the greatest voices in history. It's not that a beautiful voice it's wasted in "other people songs". Probably she do the best vocally in covers, listen to Mr. Paganini... so perfect. If she covers great songs, what's the problem. If she doesn't want or she can't write songs for herself, I prefer if they choose songs like At Seventeen, Goldfinger, etc... rather than if they choose "other people songs" like Eyes on Me, I'm Alive...

This morning I saw again The Eyes on Me video with Will I. am and sorry, call me "hater", but it was ridiculous. I love the arrangement but seeing Celine goin of "Oh Yeah! I look young and fresh, Jo Jo!!"... and then listening and seeing Goldfinger videos, and sorry.. maybe she looks older, but I don't mind, for me, she looks perfect in that way! If I want to see a hottie girl being modern I watch to a Rihanna, Beyoncé music video. For me Celine Dion it's the elegance and classy woman. And there is nothing better than the classic covers. Perfect songs for a perfect voice.

So, this will be the eternal fight between the fans...

Barbra has been singing standards since she first started in her early 20's. Some people might think that an artist turning to making cover albums is nearing the end of their career, but honestly I think Celine's mainstream pop career is practically dead. Her new show received rave reviews for the very reason that she chose a lot of these unexpected standards or interesting covers that explored different aspects of her voice and persona. People have always accused Celine of being too old fashioned, but it seems to me that actually embracing that and going the standards/jazz/art songs route might actually for the first time garner her some critical clout, as it fits her very dated and over the top persona. More importantly, with her voice seemingly at its peak now, it might make for her most vocally accomplished album.

Barbra is Celine's ultimate idol, so it's not a stretch at all. Besides, this won't be her last album.

I agree with the other posters on here. I've had enough second hand embarrassments over "Eyes on me" with Will.I.Am. or other attempts to be "modern" and "edgy". Celine just can't do it. It's not in her blood to ever be cool or edgy.
