Thomas Posted September 17, 2011 at 11:01 AM Posted September 17, 2011 at 11:01 AM Plus not all of the studio versions are better, I much prefer the live versions of TFTEISYF in it's original, simpler arrangement. I think the changes for All The Way really spoiled it. And I much prefer the live version of WAWW, I think the live version from A New Day was much better than what appeared on Miracle.
Javito Posted September 17, 2011 at 11:05 AM Posted September 17, 2011 at 11:05 AM (edited) Another thing that bothers me is that everytime Celine records a cover that she first sang live in a concert, it loses some of its magic. Take TFTEISYF for example. ''At 17''and NMQP are perfect as it is now, I don't want her to record them. At Seventeen was great the very first time she performed it ast the Grammys gala. After that? What's the need to record it on the studio? I keep that video of the Grammys as "the" time she performed that song with that title. Beautiful, nice event. I want to think in my head it was ONE time for one specific occasion, and that's all. Personally I don't want to hear a word about her singing this song in Vegas. Sorry, I'm not interested. I have the Grammys video and that's amazing. 1 time, great. The magic was there, it was a new song. But 50, 100, 500 more times, not that great sorry. Done that, seen that. Move on and go back to your (great) songs. But no. Everytime she does a new cover she has not performed before in front of an audience, she has to kill the magic of that ONE precise performance wearing it out, performing it again, and again, and again... till the magic of the FIRST TIME is gone You get what I mean? Yes, a song may be like the first time with your lover. Don't overexploit a song please. There's a thin line from love to hate. And this applies exactly the same with the 5 classics of her own repertoire she's been doing forever (TPOL, MHWGO, BYLM, LCMM etc etc etc). It's the same. The fun, the appeal and the beauty of these songs, songs like "At Seventeen" its because she could perform it FROM TIME TO TIME, ocassionally, and then go back to her own repertoire. But its just going the opposite here. We're getting her own songs rarely seen on the stage, and we're being flooded with the covers.. What should be the regular distribution, 90% of her performing-life singing her own songs (taken FROM her albums of course) and 10% other songs performed for special occasions (awards galas, hommages, special concerts). But she's totally wearing out those songs, and the same 5 of her own hits. Nothing else ever happens out of this pattern. Nada. Yesterday she performed The Prayer again with Andrea Bocelli. I have not watched the video yet, and I don't know when I will watch it. How many times she has performed the song already? I'm not excited about the song (though I run to see the new pictures) May I have a problem here? Maybe :/ ... It's totally absurd this What's more this kind of album they could have easily released back in March, they were rehearsing those songs for the show so why not record them right away? or record them in summer and release it this fall/winter. It's hilarious that the album that won't consist of totally new material (except from those 3 rumoured 3 tracks) and the covers we already know takes them so long! They could have done it, we would have been happy THEN and later release brand new album but now?! I think it's high time we stopped talking about all this, because it seems that more and more of us are thinking this way, ok we know it, alas we have to face it and just wait. Nothing more can be said. Disappointment, that's all What's more, we could have had BY NOW an EP (Extended Play) presenting the Vegas songs -5/6 of them- by the opening show in March, and by the end of this year or next spring like they say, a BRAND NEW album. But what we're getting is what they could (should) have done already many months ago before the show started If this album FLOPS big time, then Rene might realise that that people want to hear Celine's songs, not an album full of unrelated covers only worthy of an EP or bonus disc somewhere! The problem is that they don't give a damn about album sales now. Not anymore. They only care about sales of the Vegas tickets. That's what's filling their pockets today If the new album is a flop, little they will care. They don't pay attention to our wishes, they don't care if she has to deliver new music or not. Recording has become "an extra" in her career as it seems now. It's performing what they put all their attention, and that's frustrating because they're not even performing what fans are asking here... browseceline Posted September 17, 2011 at 12:31 PM Posted September 17, 2011 at 12:31 PM I am really appalled!! After almost 5 years of waiting, we get an album with some rotten and boring songs...the freshness factor that is essential for the success of any album is not here...Talking of the old Janis Ian hit At 17..I cannot believe what her team is doing to her...Are they insane?????????...Why don't they go to YouTube and see the views of Celine's version to see if this is gonna be a hit? Celine has the right to sing this at a concert..in her car..while she is taking her shower but not in her NEW album...It is new because it must include new songs.. RENE MUST BE FIRED When I heard him saying that A Song For You was the gem of TC, I was Her next album is her last chance to make 'the come back'. Her career is going down hill in the last 7 years. I am sick of hearing people saying that she does not care any more about being number one and about music. If she does not, why does not she stay at home and reserve her voice instead of singing to Las Vegas tourists? I know that some of the obsessive fans will amen! I so agree with you! She does not need to do this whole Vegas thing for tourists.. she has earned enough in her career to completely stop music and being a mum fulltime..so Vegas was not really needed. She could have taken her time to slowly create a new album with fresh new stuff, look for the right kind of song and it would not have taken so long to work on an album, in the meanwhile she can completely be a mum and maybe do some promotional performances and completely give her voice the rest it deserves.. <iframe width="640" height="390" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/hl2XkxnYljg" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe>
dj4celine Posted September 17, 2011 at 12:40 PM Posted September 17, 2011 at 12:40 PM My opinions alone: Open Arms: Journey fans are going to slaughter her and so are the music critics. Then, let's not forget Mariah's superior version which I'm very sure is gonna pale whatever Celine will do with it. At Seventeen: It was perfect for the Janis Ian tribute. That's it! Her studio version will be stoic, either emotionless or over-the-top. Bad decision. Ne Me Quitte Pas: Who are they trying to fool putting the french classic in an english album? No one's gonna see her fake tear while listening to the studio version. It's already appalling thinking about it. As for the French album, they are starting to take a 'direction' now? WTF?!?! What are they gonna do with the tracks that were ready to be recorded?!?! Passed them off so that Garou, Marc Dupre or some contestant from Star Academy could record? Jeez! As for the fourth child, I'm not even gonna start. She's pushing her luck with it. She should be happy and grateful that she has three healthy children already and she already knows that In-Vitro is nothing to joke about and on top of that, she's freakin' old now, but she still wants to go through it all over again?!?! Oh boy!
browseceline Posted September 17, 2011 at 12:41 PM Posted September 17, 2011 at 12:41 PM is there any way we can directly speak with rene celine and or her management??? writing a letter about their choices and ignoring her large fanbase? and that we are sich of hearing the same songs over and over again? ... <iframe width="640" height="390" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/hl2XkxnYljg" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Oh boy! I agree.. if this french song is so special for her that she could not perform it for a long time, why singing it each night again and still being emotional when singing it? and then even record for an albumversion? I must say, that some songs are so much nicer when performed Live! I mean Alone, on the album it's okay but I sometimes skip it, on the tour on the other hand, the arrangement was better, the singing was better. A studiorecording was not needed.. As for her fourth child, of course that is her own choice, but it can indeed be dangerous for her. I wonder where Celine is after Vegas. Can we expect a new album in those 3 or maybe more years, will we ever see her live again in a big worldtour? and if so, will it be a VEGAS2 live-show or something fresh with songs never performed before.. a complete new direction. I don't know. Let's just hope better decisions will be made later on! <iframe width="640" height="390" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/hl2XkxnYljg" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe>

And don't forget stability. Staying at home much more time than what she does now. Come on, she could even record the albums in her own home if she wanted. That's what I've been telling before she began the first show in 2003. But René can only think in this and what's the activity who gives him more, hence performing in the most exclusive venue "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"

But it's not just those 3 songs we have to worry about, just imagine the criticism she will get if she recorded & released classics like: Goldfinger, Live And Let Die, Ben & Man In The Mirror?? The fans of Bassey, McArtney & Jackson may turn on Celine too! This whole thing is a MESS!
pepillo90 Posted September 17, 2011 at 01:26 PM Posted September 17, 2011 at 01:26 PM "The golden voice of music recordings reduced to an amateur singer who mainly records covers" I can hear that in the upcoming music reviews and critics I'm really awaiting this headline to be true! I want the critics to put her and Rene where they deserve! This is a totally shame. I'm really ashamed of Celne's carrer since the new Vegas show started. I'm losing interest on her, and I think that maybe if critics doesn't agree with the new direction her career is taking, they're gonna wake up and sometime (maybe in 10 years?) we'll have an outstanding album... I'm only waiting for the new French album... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v622/pepillo90/swingit.jpg ► My Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/arts_yard/

duri Posted September 17, 2011 at 01:57 PM Posted September 17, 2011 at 01:57 PM After A new day finished in 2007 I had high hopes for Céline future career, first disappointment was TC and it´s "promo" with cover single Alone and no real videos after TC, next was no new french (except ESRQU) songs during french leg of tour, than Vegas contract again (but thanks for only 70 shows, it´s really positive) than new english album full of covers, as years run, hope are getting smaller and smaller, is this "THE BEST IS YET TO COME" ... ??? now what I´m still hope for is new french album, but this waiting and postoped again and again is so so long, and I´m not sure if it will be good for it or bad, if they decided postoped english album, why not to do french album first. http://www.supermusic.sk/obrazky/80543_Celine%209.jpg

Merci. <3
Javito Posted September 17, 2011 at 04:00 PM Posted September 17, 2011 at 04:00 PM The most hilarious thing about all this is that they said that with 70 shows a year that was half of what she did during A New Day and that way she could have much more time to do different projects. HILARIOUS! At this pace of time she will have done more during the 5 years and 723 shows of A New Day than in this new second era of Celine! Time will tell... "Hush, now... I see a light in the sky"
Kyle_Jared Posted September 17, 2011 at 04:17 PM Posted September 17, 2011 at 04:17 PM Y'all are so funny! What do you expect her to be recording at this stage in her Career. She's been in the business for more than 25 years (English 20+) and is considered a legend. She's not going to records like Rihanna, Beyonce or Britney Spears. She's got class. She's 43 years old. So she's releasing an album with covers on it! SO WHAT. Michael Buble built his whole friggin career on it and it hasnt caused any problems for him! ITS ONE ALBUM. This type of record makes more sense and is more appealing to me than "Taking CHances" ever did or attempting to be hip with duets like the one she did with Will.I.Am. from the Black Eyed Peas. I think this will be a hit record for her. Maybe not "hit" as is #1 single hit, but the album will sell well. She sould finally do American Idol if it's a spring release

rhapsodion Posted September 17, 2011 at 04:43 PM Posted September 17, 2011 at 04:43 PM (edited) Correct me if i am wrong, but I don't remember Celine saying that she will do more other projects as the new contracts has lesser concert dates each year than AND. We have to face the reality that she is 43, and she has 3 sons to raise. Lesser concert dates doesn't mean then she has to record more albums. And she already is soooo hard working, I can't recall any other artist with her status, age, who would do as much as her. I am glad she is still recording, and yes, the album may contain songs that I find boring, and I personally hate songs like "at 17" or Goldfingers and so on, and we do have a choice of whether buying her album or not, but it's upsetting seeing how some ppl complaining and making her like someone who doesn't care about her fans, her career, and being lazy...etc. Edited September 17, 2011 at 04:45 PM by rhapsodion
Alex_Incognito Posted September 17, 2011 at 04:56 PM Posted September 17, 2011 at 04:56 PM (edited) I still would like to have all of these songs as a studio version, and I really am disappointed that we don't have "Calling You" and "Quand on n'a que l'amour". I think they are big holes in her recording catalog.HOWEVER... we were told that THIS EXACT ALBUM was what we would get this LAST March. So does this mean they'll tell us in 5 months that it'll be a completely new album, and then 3 months later change it back to the "Celine"-inspired show? Solan Posted September 17, 2011 at 05:10 PM Posted September 17, 2011 at 05:10 PM It's not vulgar to record songs that is relevant in today's market. I don't want Celine to record vocoded tracks and work with David Guetta, but I'd love for her to actually try her hand at more modern compositions instead of falling back on the same arrangements from the 90s. "Taking Chances" was a good concept but it was executed rather poorly in my opinion. She could've done so much better. The melodies were not memorable, the sound didn't sound right for her... I know some fans love that album but more fans actually didn't like it. It wouldn't be such a bad thing for her to seek out young and fresh composers to work with. Going back to the same old people just so that people get interested in the songs just based on their names is just... well... silly. And I agree on the ENOUGH OF COVERS. They're good for a bonus disc, or in concert, but please, how about trying to have a hit with an original song instead of covering someone else's song? I don't mind her singing her 5 big classics in concert because some fans should realize that not a lot of the people who attend these concerts have been to every tour. For example, I've only seen her in concert once for the Taking Chances Tour. And believe me I would've feel cheated if she hadn't sung Power of Love, My heart will go on, Because you loved me, etc. So on that, I'm glad she still sing those regularly on her tours. She could revamp the arrangements a bit but POL being in playback, I guess that's not possible lol.

Oh boy! haha thats funny. We'll see about that. Name one studio cover from Celine that was inferior to the original or inferior to somebody else cover. I can't. On the other hand, I can name a lot of Celine's covers that slaughtered the previous attemps e.g. All By myself, alone, The Power of Love, At last, Ave maria, beautiful boys, calling you, i surrender, i drove all night, i hate you then i love you and the list goes on and on.... So what? good for her, good for us,Plus, she/we need a girl, with Celine's vocal genes, to perpetuate her legacy... I seriously couldn't care less of what she comes up with. As long as it is not live and that she takes the recording studio seriously which means rest/vocal training and not finish songs within 10 min because some producer needs to go change some newborn diappers... Claudette Posted September 17, 2011 at 06:07 PM Posted September 17, 2011 at 06:07 PM (edited) I have to say I'm also not a fan of Celine's version of ''Open Arms''. I'm not even that big a fan of Mariah and I agree that her version is better (I'm not afraid to admit it). Celine's version seems so flat/dull compared to Mariah's. What gives it the big wow factor during the show is the curtain thing. When I first heard it in March it gave me goosebumps (which of course is also due to her being right in front of me), but after time I listened to Mariah's and was blown away. I can't believe I'm actually saying this, but unfortunately that is just how I feel. I hope she proves me wrong with the studio version. Edit: IMO, Celine should stay away from songs done by Whitney and Mariah, and the same goes for them. The simple reason is that the critics will compare and slaughter them. Matias Posted September 17, 2011 at 06:19 PM Posted September 17, 2011 at 06:19 PM Absolutely! If they recorded a proper studio album, then these Vegas songs would be ideal for a bonus disc in a 2CD deluxe/collector's edition!I agree, these songs have nothing in common, and some of them are already really big songs (so she will be criticised for covering them!). I also prefer Celine not to record covers she originally sang live. Take RDMH for example, that has always been a popular song in her concerts since 1994, but I really don't think the FIY studio recording increased it's popularity. I'm 99% sure this song would still be a fan favourite today if she had never recorded it in studio, because people already knew the song way before Celine started singing it. I think it's great how certain songs like Calling You & QONQL were performed a lot in the 90s yet never recorded - why does she need to when we have great live versions? The same applies to the Vegas songs, they are fine how they are! If this album FLOPS big time, then Rene might realise that that people want to hear Celine's songs, not an album full of unrelated covers only worthy of an EP or bonus disc somewhere! Yeah sometimes the studio versions do not have the "feeling" that you see on the stage, look God bless America, it sounds way better live on the Tribute to Heroes telethonthan on the CDi, or even Dance with my father! it sounds better even with the technicals problems she had...and At Seventee, well ifit is not broken, don't fix it! the Grammys version is superb and don't think she can capture the same magic as she did with that perfomance that night. And WHY giving us soooo many songs from her new show?? this meand we will have another CD with the same songs once the Vegas CD gets released? because we ALL know that in the future there will be a CD-DVD about this show to.. http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_maic6m257V1rbfceqo2_250.gif"No no, put it back..."
dj4celine Posted September 17, 2011 at 06:46 PM Posted September 17, 2011 at 06:46 PM Name one studio cover from Celine that was inferior to the original or inferior to somebody else cover. I can't. Just a few that are not good enough in their Studio versions as compared to the ones performed live by Celine and also, some that not good enough to be even put on the albums. But these are just my opinion and personal choice. Dance With My Father, (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman, The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, What a Wonderful World, God Bless America, Alone, My Love, River Deep, Mountain High, When I Need You But I completely agree with what you said apart from that there is no cover by Celine that is inferior to the original/someone else's cover. Anyways, let's get back to topic!
Jeff Abbott Posted September 17, 2011 at 07:10 PM Posted September 17, 2011 at 07:10 PM I think it would be a mistake to include "Ne Me Quitte Pas" on the English album. It might be good for the Las Vegas show but putting it on the album full of songs sung in another language doesn't make sense at all. Can't Celine's team realise that. They will spoil the magic this song brings. Instead, it should be released on the French album and kept as simple and raw as possible. It's such a powerful and sophisticated song with great message behind it. As for "Open Arms" and "At seventeen", these should be left alone and reserved only for the Vegas show. We've already heard them. P.S. Is it possible that Rene changed his mind and we're getting more new songs rather than only three titles? All of these snippets of news are so confusing now.
