"Sans attendre" album - Official Topic

I finally received my album last week, so my review is a bit late, but anyways here goes:

First, I know many of you guys hate the artwork, but like I said before, I think it is different for a change, and I love it. I already have a place to put the cute little calender next year.

This is definitely also one of my top 3 French albums. I think it is a very personal album for Celine, and unfortunately it is a side of Celine that her English fans will probably never see.

My favourites are:

Le miracle - I love the melody, sounds so cheerful. I think it is a very appropriate single for this time of year.

Qui peut vivre sans amour - This should have been the first single as it is the strongest song on the album in my opinion.

Une chance qu'on s'a - What a beautiful song? Every time I hear this song, I see Celine smile on stage during the performance with Jean-Pierre.

Celle qui m'a tout appris - I think everybody can relate to this song. The lyrics are beautiful, and I love the melody.

Les petits pieds de Léa - This has to be my favourite song on the album. It is heartbreaking, and I can only imagine how hard it must have been for Celine to record it. No woman ever wants to go through something like that. I absolutely adore her voice on this song. It makes me melt. :P

Les jours comme ça - I LOVE the melody of this song. Too bad it is a bonus track.

I've been thinking about this for several days now regarding the song "L'amour Peut Prendre Froid" What if.... and this is probably just some wishful thinking on my part... what if Celine recorded the original English version of this song ("Love Me Anyway") as a duet with Blake Shelton? If timing is good that could be a massive media advantage should the album and song be released during the next season of The Voice. And it could be Celine's first time on the country chart. I mean... do you really think Blake Shelton would say NO to Celine? Come on! It could be a return for Celine among popular acts on the music scene.

Of course it's not going to happen :( It would be a nice change for Celine to be associated with current singers instead of the geriatric performers who's popularity peaked when Celine's parents weren't even married. -_-

Or with Cee Lo Green, produced by Timbaland with rap verse by Will.I.Am?!??!!!!

I actually like Blake's voice, the idea is nice. BTW, I've searched the Internet for the 'Love Me Anyway' lyrics but in vain. Could someone please post them here? I'm just curious. Edited by Bell

It would be nice but don't see it happening

As for your second comment: Lol! Love it!

Not that anyone would care but here's my review of the album:

This is the kind of album/music that has very subtle melody from beginning to end with maybe a couple exceptions.

Parler A Mon Pere: I never really enjoyed this song fully before as a stand alone song. But when listening to the whole album, whenever this song played it seemed to fit and sounded more and more like an obvious single, although it is quite simple and not massively radio-friendly. It has grown on me a lot... weird to say.

Le Miracle: I love this song. This has, for me, an obvious 70s French song vibe. The production (the na na na na background vocal among other things) is very dated but has, at the same time, an updated quality to it. It is one of my favorite songs on the album. It makes me feel good.

Qui Peut Vivre Sans Amour: I quickly started feeling indifferent about this song. It's a nice change of scenery on the album but I don't like her throaty/forced vocal trying to emote a rock sound. It's as contrived as can be IMO.

L'amour Peut Prendre Froid: So not a fan of Johnny Hallyday. He has a rock voice and doesn't really know how to sound romantic for such song IMO. Plus I hate his accent, the way he pronounces certain vowels - like NORD sounds like NUHRD) He would've sounded better on the previous track me thinks. That said, I like the song. It sounds like a country ballad kind of song a la Lady Antebellum. Should be a solo.

Attendre: I'm really surprised at how much I LOVE this song. It is definitely one of the highlight on the album. The song builds and builds and I love that. It's orgasmic, even though it's starts off like a simple song. LOVE LOVE LOVE it.

Une Chance Qu'on S'a: A classic song in Quebec and although I would've preferred this was not a duet, it's still is the better duet on the album. JPF is Quebec's equivalent to Bob Dylan. He's not a great vocalist but his texts and phrasing and delivery is affecting IMO. Great track.

La Mer Et L'enfant: The berceuse that puts me to sleep. Sure it's nice but totally forgettable. The best part of it is the music. I love music with percussions and the added accordion is a pretty nice touch. The song is just flat.

Moi Quand Je Pleure: This is an interesting song. The most bizarre, in a good way, song so far. It reminds me so much of Quebec singer Pierre Lapointe. It has this Vaudeville feel full of imagery, colorful and sad at the same time. One of my favorites. The ending is so freaking cool. Totally awesome.

Celle Qui M'a Tout Appris: Hm... here's the first song I always skip http://www.thespamforum.com/public/style_emoticons/default/confused.gif Album filler. It may have a lot of meaning for Celine but it's too 90s sounding. My least favorite song. SKIP

Je N'ai Pas Besoin D'amour: Classic. For once I agree with Rene. I LOVE how the chorus doesn't flow with the verses. It makes the song interesting and less conventional. It's pure JPF which really elevates the album to a higher level of poetry and finesse. Can't stop loving this song.

Si Je N'ai Rien De Toi: a so-so song for me at first but it's growing on me rapidly. It's a good song but it lacks a je-ne-sais-quoi touch to make it super special. If they had brought the full orchestra string sooner and more forward toward the end (from the key change on) it would've added a more effective production. They tried, obviously, to make it dramatic but it falls short a bit.

Que Toi Au Monde: I love the lyrics but the melody reminds me too much of "Ma Nouvele France" The melody is a carbon copy of MNF at the beginning... same structure and all. I LOVE Ma Nouvelle France so for me, I have a hard time listening to QTAM as a stand alone song without the reference to that other Luc Plamondon song. http://www.thespamforum.com/public/style_emoticons/default/confused.gif

Tant De Temps: Here's the oldies... very 40s. Nothing wrong with it. Salvador, thankfully doesn't sound bad/old... but it's very old fashion and I could've done without it. The harmonies are nice but that's about it. SKIP

Les Petits Pieds De Lea: Probably the saddest song on the album. We all know how Celine felt about losing that third embryo when she was pregnant with the twins. It would've been her only girl. It's a bit like Vole/Fly... a bit too sad. But they did a good job with the song which had to be this soft and lullaby-ish.

Ne Me Quitte Pas: F-ING AWESOME! I can't get enough of this. Just like "Quand On N'a Que L'amour" this Jacques Brel song is not only a classic, it's timeless. He was a genius. Celine gives a heartfelt rendition here. It's affecting and full of emotion without the Celine overdone cliché vocal she's been slayed for for years. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!

Les Jours Comme Ca: What a weird way to end the album. NMQP should've been the closing song. Not this poppy song. If ONLY she had put more effort to enunciate her soft Gs. It's freaking annoying to hear her say "shoor" instead of "jour". Ugh!! It's all over the song and all over the album for that matter. She has a hard time with those vibrating consonants (soft Gs, Zs, Vs and to a certain extant her Ds as well - which at times sound like Ts).

Overall I'm very surprised at how I like this album. At first it was a snoozefest but after listening to it several times, I was able to appreciate the subtlety of it and find it very enjoyable.

you are right about this, it it has a pierre Lapointe touch. It would be my dream, Pierre Lapointe writing for Celine. What a clash :)

Plus qu'ailleurs , but now Si c'était à refaire , i still love tant de temps....

THIS ALBUM NEEDS TO HAVE 5 SINGLES

She now needs to show the young people that this is a "cool" album too. So there you go, "Qui Peut Vivre Sans Amour" in january, "Si Je N'ai Rien de Toi" in april and finally "Attendre" in september, with big promotion for next year's holiday season. And as I already said, a 1-year promotion as she used to do back in the day! And worldwide release SOON!!!

I disagree with Qui Peut Vivre Sans Amour. I loathe this song just from the performance standpoint. It's too contrived and irritating. It sounds like her throat is on fire from forcing too much that rock sound which doesn't suit her tone. I feel the same with "I Want You To Need Me."

I agree with the other 2 single choices though :)

I agree with you, QPVSA is not my cup of tea either. It's the only track I can't stand from the entire album, so I skip it. I don't like the Johnny Hallyday duet either, but that one I can listen to. But I don't know why I can't listen to QPVSA, as you said it's irritating to me, and it's one of few Celine songs that give me that feeling, the others being "Rain, Tax" and "Love Is All We Need". But I'm 80% sure it'll be the third single.

As I said pages ago  Les Jours Comme Ça would be my ideal single, but that will not happen.

I like all of the songs on this CD. I love QPVSA!!!!

I love La Mer et L'Enfant and Celle qui m'a tout appris, because I totally relate to those songs. As a mother the imagery of the waves protecting her children etc., and the love that one has for a mother who has done so much for her daughter. If you've ever lost a child then it's obvious that you'll relate to Les Petits Pieds de Lea.These songs speak to me.

I enjoy each song, because each one is totally unique in my opinion. I feel like I'm at an amusement park, and I'm able to enjoy all the different experiences that one might enjoy whether you're on a carousel or a roller coaster. I might even liken it to savoring different flavors of coffee, tea or hot chocolate. I like them all, but they each have their time and place during the week according to how I feel. Tant de Temps might be an oldie, but it would be lovely to listen to while sitting at a sidewalk cafe or while taking a stroll on a beautiful cool day.

I've liked many of Celine's other French songs, and I've always bought each CD. This CD is my favorite French CD in its entirety, without a doubt.

Je n'ai pas besoin d'amour should be a single in Quebec! It is penned by Ferland, it represents the feeling of the album and she performed it twice already. A classic.

In France, I don't think Qui peut vivre sans amour will do well as a single. I like the song, but it's somewhat dated.

Attendre, Si je n'ai rien de toi, L'amour peut prendre froid (I hate the song, but Hallyday is huge) seem better choices.

I don't know if it happens to you too, but "Sans Attendre" sounds to me like an album would a lot of songs that could have fitted on different old Celine albums... Even from the early era. What do you think?

- Parler A Mon Pere (1 Fille et 4 Types)

- Le Miracle (C'Est Pour Toi)

- Qui Peut Vivre Sans Amour (D'elles)

- Attendre (D'eux)

- Une Chance Qu'On S'a (S'il Suffisait D'aimer)

- La Mer Et L'Enfant (1 Fille Et 4 Types)

- Moi Quand Je Pleure (C'est Pour Toi)

- Celle Qui M'a Tout Appris (D'elles)

- Je n'ai Pas Besoin D'amour (Dion Chante Plamondon ... Except for the voice that sounds different)

- Si Je N'ai Rien De Toi (D'Elles)

- Que Toi Au Monde (On Ne Change Pas... And it reminds me a lot of Ma Nouvelle France)

- Tant de Temps (Dion Chante Plamondon)

- Les Petits Pieds de Lea (S'il Suffisait D'Aimer)

- Ne Me Quitte Pas (A L'Olympia)

I completely agree!

I love and hate that Je n'ai pas besoin d'amour doesn't have the chorus repeat for a 3rd time. I understand and can see why and I appreciate the effect that it makes the listener wanting more from the song. Plus it's the most poetic and smartest song of the album in my opinion. It just has a "je ne sais quoi" quality to it. I think many of us agree.

I love Ne Me Quitte Pas, and agree it should have been the finale chanson on Sans Attendre.

Lastly, surprisingly like many of us, my favorite song is Le Petits Pieds de Lea. I like the melody and how the song progresses and how it just seems like she's just singing it to us as if she's at home singing it to her twins.

I still can't get enough of Parler a Mon Pere. I actually remembered hearing initially and going, "that was it? ugh!" Now I love it and listen to it constantly.

Did I already give my review of this fantastic album?

1. Dion, Celine - Parler A Mon Pere:

A real popsong, but not very special, although it's growing on me.

Will not skip this one too. It is not a bad song at all and it fits in the album.

2. Dion, Celine - Le Miracle - I have to Admit that I first did not like the children's choir. But the more I listen to it,

the more I like it. It has something flowerpower? It sounds dated but I like it. and her voice sounds very nice on this song.

By the way, like some of you already stated, this song comes at the perfect time and it has even a Christmas feeling.

That is what it is, a feelgood song.

3. Dion, Celine / Paris Pop Orchestra - Qui Peut Vivre Sans Amour?

This is a rocksong and Celine delivers. Although it has a quite monotone chorus it is catchy and when I hear the song

I can see how Celine looks when she sings it, the gestures she does with her hands, the way she looks in the camera-lense..

4. Dion, Celine / Hallyday, Johnny - L'Amour Peut Prendre Froid - Duo Johnny Hallyday

I like this duet and like some said, it could have been a song from Lady Antebellem. Johnny Hallyday is not my favorite and I don't think his

voice is that fantastic. That said, won't skip it, since I really like the melody and Celine's part.

5. Dion, Celine / Paris Pop Orchestra - Attendre

I guess you have to know the meaning behind the words to fully enjoy the song, but it has a beautiful build up and it is a great song

6. Dion, Celine / Ferland, Jean-Pierre - Une Chance Qu'on S'A - Duo Jean-Pierre Ferland

Probably one of my most favorite songs on this album. Mainly because Jean-Pierre sings with so much passion and tenderness

and it matches so beautiful with Celine's voice. It was wonderful seeing them on stage and the chemistry they have.

Jean-Pierre sounds like he comes over on screen. A very friendly and sweet man.

7. Dion, Celine - La Mer Et L'Enfant

I feel the summer in this song. It really has a very french feeling to it. The feeling of eating at some street restaurant while the sun is going under and

the air is still hot. It is the song that sounds like a lazy summerday and I love the way she pronounces those , for me, strange words.

And it also has something sad in it, I don't know why, but that is what I seem to hear without knowing the translation ( yes there are translations;-)

8. Dion, Celine - Moi Quand Je Pleure This song sounds like some song that belongs to a Fairytale and if there would be a video going along with it, it would have a video like Amelie. A video that describes a story and the music follows that story. The song sounds dated but also fresh in some way.

A really French song though that fits with this album. Sometimes I skip this one though, since it still grows on me.

9. Dion, Celine - Celle Qui M'A Tout Appris How I loved it when she sang the song for her mum and with the photos being displayed behind her

showing the bond she has with her mum and how much she appreciates her mum. it is beautiful. It made me emotional too how her mum reacted to it.

That live performance made me love this song even more now I know where it is about. And I love the beautiful sounds she sings ( because I don't French a word) - is a beautiful song.

10. Dion, Celine - Je N'Ai Pas Besoin D'Amour - Beautiful just beautiful. I would have loved it though if the melody matched better with the chorus. The chorus got to be one of the most beautiful chorusses I have ever heard Celine sing. Live it was even better ( in the special)

11. Dion, Celine - Si Je N'Ai Rien De Toi - I think when I have to name one song on this album that really stands out, it is this song. It is one of the darkest melodies I have heard her singing. The melody is beautiful, the chorus amazing and it is definately sounding as if is about something very tragic and sad.

( yes the lyrics might be different than I think). But in this song there is something extra-ordinary, and that is that knifesharp superhigh haunting yell somewhere near the end.

that perfectly blends with the music.. Sooo haunting... beautiful.

12. Dion, Celine - Que Toi Au Monde (En Cours) I love how she goes from louder and passionate to soft and tender. Do you ever have that feeling, I have heard that song somewhere before? This is one of those songs. Or it is just brilliant songwriting. I like this song too.

13. Dion, Celine / Salvador, Henri - Tant De Temps - Duo Henri Salvador - This song makes me fall asleep as soon as Celine starts singing. When Henri Salvador comes in I feel even more sleepy. The melody is interesting but it sounds sad again... and yes I almost fall asleep when I listen to it.

The horn that slowly starts and Celne humming makes me feel asleep again. In fact I try to listen to the song now but my eyes are having a hard time to stay open. If she wants her audience to fall asleep, this song is a good choice haha

14. Dion, Celine - Les Petits Pieds De Lea - beautifully sung. It sounds like a lullaby, and even when not knowing what is the

song is about, it sounds captivating. I think there are many women that can find comfort in this song when have experienced a miscarriage as well.

15. ne me quitte pas - beautiful song. But I don't think she should perform each time in Vegas. It takes away the emotions.

Very good studio version though.

16. Les Jours Come Ca - Lovely song! this is the kind of song that sounds fresh and from now. Probably one of my most favorite tracks

Verdict: This is one of the best French albums in my opinion. Of course Deu'x is still my favorite, but this one is so consistant and there are not many songs that I want to skip or that does not interest me. The album is really cohesive and strong.

Well done Celine!
