A Big Band (yes with an "n") :giggle: Show at 42 and a dance album at 65! ?

Way to go... -_-

I'm a bit disappointed with all these news. First with "A Song For You"... Yes guys, I agree she did it for us, but it's the typical Celine ballad... and people who have pre-conceived ideas about Celine sure won't see her differently after this Oprah show or movie!!

How about something a little hip for once? And movie theme songs? Hopefully some cool songs but I doubt it... And her big hits AGAIN? :o

Should we boycott Vegas or what? :whistling:

When she did hip hop with Will-i-am it just looked silly. I mean, I enjoyed it, but people who weren't really fans were probably thinking..ummm what is she doing? For all of her career she has done ballads and that is what has been the most successful. Why would they change that now? It sells and she's got the voice for it.

I loved her moves in that performance (right at the end when she dances) and I didn't see a silly Céline :ermm:. But a sexy, young woman who is full of energy inside (though she rarely exploits it with her dancing skills) :ermm:

I find your statement about Believe a bit odd, and I would like to say that it was just the opposite. Cher got tremendous popularity around that time, especially in the younger audience. She set a tone, which wave of success she rode for a long time after that, with hit after hit played on MTV all the time.

A "Believe boost" for Céline would be simply wonderful. And now is actually the right time. They couldn't have planned the amount of attention she's getting right now. She's in the spot light folks, for no obvious reasons, yes she's doin appearences here and there but so does many other stars whose lime light she without effort steals. People are actually somewhat curious about her at this state, and this curiosity would be not so tactic to go wasted. I mean, people have been so tired everything about her for a very long time, now they're looking at her without knowing it ready to see her in new light. Just as they were in the start of the TC era, however promised change and lured by swell tracks like TC and TJTWIM only to be fed with Alone, people let it go.

Now we're there again. Will the Céline team make a move?

/fred

I corrected myself. It was big in '99. If something like that were played on the radio now though, it would be laughed at. It was sort of cheesey pop. I have a feeling if she had something more up-tempo it might be something along those lines. If she had a good writer/producer though, someone who works with artists that are currently popular on the radio, it could catch some people's attention. But I still don't think she'd get rid of the ballad singer image. Heck, I thought TC was a great song, and I thought it would be a hit with younger audiences...but it really wasn't. I heard Z100 (new york's pop station) play it maybe once or twice...and only when they were giving away tickets. Anyway my main point in all that blabbering was that ASFY was for the fans. She wasn't trying to change people's minds about her by singing something that wasn't a ballad, or singing an old hit that only casual fans would enjoy hearing for the 100th time. And even if she sang something up-tempo it wouldn't have changed anyone's mind because only fans will be watching since the show is all about Celine. I think ASFY was a good choice.

People are actually somewhat curious about her at this state, and this curiosity would be not so tactic to go wasted. I mean, people have been so tired of everything about her for a very long time. Now they're looking at her, ready without knowing it, to see her in new light. Just as they were in the start of the TC era, however promised change and lured by swell tracks like TC and TJTWIM only to be fed with Alone, people let it go.

Now we're there again, suprisingly. All eyes on her. Will the Céline team make a move?

/fred

Fred - you nailed it. Exactly how I see it too.

And with all the positive press she has received in the last few weeks, people ARE curious to see what she will do next... and performing A Song For You and announcing a Vegas Big Band with Movie songs and her old hits would not necessarily make people very curious... or show them that she's capable of doing something a little different and creative...

I think Celine has a lot more to offer, but unfortunately it seems that it won't happen with this next project yet again...

Trying not to be too negative but I'm really not impressed to be honnest. Can't hide it!

I think everyone needs to remember when Celine first went to Vegas a lot of people weren't sure if it would work. I give her a lot of credit for doing something different. She even said herself a few years ago (in her book) that she wanted to do an unplugged show. This isn't quite unplugged but we know that when it comes to Celine she doesn't do things half way. Next year all we will hear is how great her new Vegas show is and how overly concerned people were. Don't you think she is SICK of doing the same kind of show? I bet Celine secretly HATES singing all her ballads in the same format over, and over and over and over and OVER again. Let's take a deep breath!

If Celine or her team doesn't know about this forum or what is going on in the internet, we should stop hopping for something fresh for her next album. :glare:

Come on! Your are only 41! No 80 like your husband :angry2:

For some reason, I'm starting to think that Céline and René believe that we love to our hearts her ballad singer profile and that we don't want her to try or sing other things. They can't be any wrong.

As I said before, I think there is a gap between Céline and her fans, and that is directly related to the music aspect. They know we love THE (her) music, but do they know WHAT kind of music do we enjoy better?

Following Bumble's reply before, I would like to add:

Céline has a ballad-singer profile - FACT

Her audience includes adults and middle-aged people in its majority - FACT

Céline loves to please her fans - FACT

Would that middle-aged audience that filled her A New Day show every night CARE if she sang 10 uptempo songs and only 5 hits/classics instead of 10 ballads/classics and 5 uptempo songs? I don't think so. That fanbase will go to see Céline whatever she sings, because they have the album at their homes to listen the songs they like  Can Céline disappoint young audiences if she doesn't sing but old classics and not her new hot songs? Probably, because many are not interested in her old hits but her new stuff.

So, why would she object to sing the so called uptempo songs/unknown tracks we are so demanding here and pay less attention (for once) to her ballads/classic hits? Its just a matter of knowing about this. She just needs to know what we want to hear and what we expect her to sing in the future.

Then, if given the case, do you really think that if she knows someday about this fans whishes, she will do any objection to do it for us? No way! We just need to find the way for letting her and René know what we really want to listen and see her sing.

The problem I see in all this is that she thinks we all are comfortable with her performing songs like the Oprah one, or her eternal classics over and over again, and this has proven not to be the reality

So she just needs to KNOW!

Ok, so he can keep his job as husband, and maybe leave Celine's career in younger hands, at least someone who knows what's going on in today's world :whistling:

Next album is crucial for Celine, if they fail, if it doesn't have a successful single, Rene could never take her back to the top again..But I still have faith in him :innocent:

I don't think its a matter of René's age. When Whitney Houston released her album "My Love Is Your Love" in 1998 it was produced by her manager and producer Clive Davis (as all her albums), and it was a SMASH hit worldwide as few can remember in those years. And he was 65, 9 years older than René at that time (56)

Its just a matter of being interested in the showbusiness and what people and fans like to listen, but it seems both of them lost their interest on that since 2003.

Don't get me wrong i'm really looking forward to another live Celine performance but is it only me that finds "A Song For You" an incredibly boring song?!

^_^ No not at all, I am surprised people do like it. I mean it's really odd, very unstructured like I've already said. How does one sing along to it? I find it just a waste of both Céline's and Robert's talent. They could have done something really magical together. It sounded very promising on the recoding session, but turned out to be a real anticlimax.

Peace and love to all.

:w00t: Really? I may have watched the wrong video because I never found it promising -though I tried and hard-, not even in the BTS! :mdr:

This song and New Dawn break the whole good tracklist sequence in the TC album :innocent:

You are right, well they still care for the money, what's good too, but please, surprise us with the next album!

About singing "A song for you" in Oprah I don't care too much, we all know who watch Oprah mostly, at least is something new

Good, glad it's not just me then. "A Song For You" is just such a random song to be picked for Oprah. Glad it's different, but on this occasion a boring song haha.

Back to what you were saying about Celine / Sony always seeming to make the wrong choices when it comes to which direction to take? Or do they?

They always seem to cover all the bases in my opinion, including updating Celine's sounds working with new people, and then they do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING with them. Why record things like "Fade Away" and "Can't Fight The Feeling" if you're always going to release things like "Alone." Why record things like "When The Wrong One Loves You Right" and "Reveal" when you're going to release rubbish like "Have You Ever Been In Love."

Most songs Celine records are in fact good songs but not all, by any stretch, are single worthy or promo songs and this is where Celine / Sony seem to always fall down.

Like New Dawn too, the beginning is great

ye i think a song for you is so random...like i love all the celine ballads and tht is wat she best known for..however she could totly get a new fan base if on the future they do somethin a wee bit more up beat...been listening to recnelty lets talk about love album and totatly fallen in love again with just a little bit of love...ye some of the lyrics are a bit cheese but you could see it playin in clubs and stuff...which today is really important to get chart success need to be catchy!! xx

so for someone who was at the show...was it just Celine or was Rene being interviewed to?

just celine, i dont even think i saw rene in the audience. but he was with her in the car :)

thank you all for sharing the news!!!

i think a "song for you" is beautiful and haunting. it's the kind of song that was meant to be performed live ... the studio just doesn't capture the emotion. I can't wait to hear it!

Well, i really liked the idea of celine singing a song for you. I agree with all of you who think that the song is kinda boring, but c'mon, what would you preffer to listen to? BYLM, or another version of ANDHC? Don't loose hopes. maybe she sounded SO great that we're gonna like it! ^_^

Has anyone noticed that March 15, 2011 is a Tuesday!??? Why wouldn't they open the show on a weekend? Anyone else think this is weird?
Posted (edited)
yes very rushed indeed. We were told to be there before around 11, but we didnt get inside the studio till like 2ish, and even then it took a while before celine and oprah came out! Personally, I think they rushed it alot, it would have been great if some members of the audience could say a few words, or interact with the audience with songs/ questions etc. It was just really different from what i expected when i normally see celine/oprah shows. and different from the TV as well..lol.

really ? is that what you really would have loved to see? some audience members requesting BYLM or MHWGO yet again :whistling: and telling everyone how much they love those songs. Cuz you KNOW thats what would have happened right. :whistling:
