I'm a bit surprised her recent live performances only made the headlines now. I mean she's been having vocal issues since 1997. That's 17 long years. Her live vocal performances have always been questionable. On her albums, she's inhumanly good! She sings as if there's no tomorrow. But singing them completely live is another story. This has been her problem since she ended her Daydream tour in 1996. She has this habbit of creating songs that are impossible to sing live. That's why I've been wondering why she hasn't released videos of the recording sessions of her albums like Celine does with almost all her studio albums. I mean, I want to see how she recorded songs like Lead the Way, Never too Far, Reflections, Mine Again etc.

 

I feel sad for her. I feel that because she's been pigeonholed as having this incredible range from 1990-1996, she's forced to make songs that can match (if not surpass) her vocals during her peak. I would not mind hearing her sing songs that suit her current voice. Cause it feels like she's cheating her fans by releasing songs with incredibly difficult notes, but never sing them live.

this did shock the hell outta me - i knew her voice had suffered from the nodules shed always had ages ago but this is a completely different level of disability! she shouldnt have gone on tour like this - i only wish celine coulda been touring like shed planned in the same area and you can imagine the headlines....battle of the divas....there sadly would have been no battle.

This was really sad! Her voice was just not there at all. Even parts of songs where there weren't any high notes she couldn't sing, she sounded really off key. It must have been really hard to be up there for an entire show with no voice. I can't imagine how embarrassed she probably was. I hope she recovers quickly and improves.

I just watched the video. Well... We've heard such vocals before. She's had ups and downs, it's not the first time she gives a weak live performance. However, I think we shouldn't compare this to how she used to be 2 decades ago. No one can sound the same 20 years later.

Mariah Carey is being slammed again for her latest tour performances, this time from Korean fans who attended her Elusive Chanteuse Show in Seoul last night.

 

Website Netizen Buzz, which tracks trending news articles in Korea and translates the readers’ comments into English, revealed a frosty reception to Mimi’s recent tour stop, with many fans claiming that they walked out of the concert after the diva failed to deliver.

Mimi already received a similar response to the tour’s opening night in Tokyo over the weekend, with videos of her voice-cracking going viral earlier this week.

 

Fan footage from the Seoul stop reveals that Mimi’s drastically improved since Tokyo, but they also show that she’s now relying heavily on her backing singers, and is even straight up lip syncing in parts. She also noticeably axed some of the more challenging power ballads from the setlist, including “Hero.”

 

You can check out a performance of “All I Want For Christmas Is You” below. Take note around the 2:55 mark which shows Mariah move the mic away from her mouth to put a feather boa on, all while her vocals remain perfectly in tune from the backing track she’s miming to.

I wouldn't say so. Her voice naturally changed but I myself don't think that now Celine sounds better than 20 years ago. Each Celine era has its own magic, You can't compare one to another and say 'this is better'. For me, they are all good.

I so agree with you. I guess I meant that in comparison with Mariah, she's gotten better. But, she's as strong as ever know, Celine is!

The setlist is great! I got excited when I saw Babydoll but then it's lipped so I really want her to sing Can't Let Go honestly

Although at the moment I know she's going through a lot so I'll give her the benefit of the doubt. She usually does a lot better when she's used to the touring.

I think powerofamor meant that she sounds the same just a lot more technical and controlled. You can sound the same and still have more positive attributes with some proper training as shown.

Mariah posted this on her Twitter page last night! She's going to be performing and the Jazz and Blues Festival in Jamaica! Celine performed there a few years ago in 2012 (I'm pretty sure it was 2012 if I'm not mistaken).

haha i can totally see where shes coming from - and it doesnt sound like she hates her (as its well documented they have been friends for a while anyway and probably known each other since the early days of sony) it sounds more like she thinks celine would never come knocking at her door? i dunno. Its different now however mariah hasnt got anything to prove any more a duet might be more feasible. but as you said i dont think their voices would go together very well anymore celine would A. killer her as you say and 2. mariah would be all whispery and heady. i would sound horrible.

I wonder if this is a real interview. It sounds almost translated, except that, so far as I know, Mariah only speaks English. But some of the sentence constructions are very odd for direct quotes, and sound like a bad Google Translate. Things like: "Whitney agrees, to her he said I was ready." "Standing before your door" (why the "before"? That's weird). And "Eventually Celine Dion loves to do duets" -- eventually? huh? Why use that word?
