The duet with Brian McKnight is fantastic. I only ever bought "Glitter" and "#1's", so I only know the tracks on those albums. I didn't like the rapping on Glitter too much. I think Mariah is better suited to singing Ballads. She totally has the voice for them. I think I'll dig the album out today and have a listen actually. Just to refresh my mind

 

"Whenever u call" sounds much better solo which can be found in "Butterfly" album. the duet with Brian McKnight in the "#1's" album, there's too much going on in there!! yes, "Music Box" albm has that old-school Mariah ballads which are like, very Whitney-Celine-esque ; but "Butterfly" still remains a fan-favourite coz of the quality & maturity in her lyrics & music; i think she was at her vocal best in this album... smooth, soulful, powerful, effortless, emotional... u can find some of her most personal songs in "Butterfly"!!! it has 6 ballads ..."Butterfly", "My all", "Whenever u call", "Close my eyes", "The Beautiful Ones {with Dru Hill}" & "Outside"; a few mid-tempo "The Roof", "Fourth of July", "Breakdown", "Babydoll"; i like "Honey", its up-tempo & fun, but i listen to rest of the album more than "Honey". i think u should give "Butterfly" albm a try ...u may not fall for it instantly , as u r more into old-school ballads, but its certainly a grower. "Butterfly" was the first Mariah albm i ever brought & i didnt like it as a whole the first time i listened to it coz i too preferred Celine-esque ballads at that time. but after a few listen i was hooked!!! it still remains my favorite!!!

^ I prefer Whenever You Call as a duet. The solo version to me is like most of her other ballads. Making it a duet turned it into something special IMO.

It looked as if "#Beautiful" would drop on the UK Singles Chart, as the Midweek numbers suggested it was to drop to number 32. In the end, the single picked up the pace during these past three days, and despite strong competition, it holds at number 24!

#Beautiful has been listed on BBC Radio1's C Playlist, which means it's building up on Airplay, and it's giving it strength on the UK iTunes chart, where it climbs to number 20, so possibly it will climb up the chart yet again this coming Sunday.

I wanted to tell you that I listened to the duet version of Whenever You Call for the first time in a long time, since you brought it up earlier this week. I was pleasantly surprised! I felt Brian McKnight's vocals complemented Mariah's very well. They both shared this wounded tone in their deliveries that just really put the whole thing over.

I repeated that song hundreds of times when I first got the album. It's a beautiful duet and they blend perfectly together. I'm delighted you digged it out.

I just can't with that song, it makes me think of an off-brand One Sweet Day.

Whenever I think of Divas Live 98, I think of THIS. Where Mariah is all reverent and won't stomp on Aretha's shine (also because on this particular night she probably couldn't if she wanted to), and Celine is like "whatever, I'll do it!"

 

 

And yes! Check out those albums! I'm not going to pretend you'll like most anything post 1998 in Mariah's catalog, but up until then you get great melodies, timeless songs, brilliant vocals, the works.

As far as I remember, I've heard Mariah say on some interview that it's all about the movie and the character. She herself has a very close connection with her mother, she said 'Reflections' is basically the opposite of her real life experience.

I'm going to spend my morning reliving the first few months of 2008 on MariahDaily. I was hoping they'd do something like they did for E=MC2 (and to a lesser extent, Memoirs) and have a few listening events with 10+ songs to get feedback and word out on the album. There's still a month and a half to go!

 

Guys... in 43 days, there'll be a new Mariah Carey album. I'd even say like 35 as it's destined to leak a week ahead.

i'd suggest u to listen to "Charbracelet" albm LAST ...coz i think that was her weakest albm. it still had a few great ballads though. Mariah wasnt at her best on Divas live 1998. she was in the middle of her "Around the world" tour & her vocal chords were sore
