What's your favourite Mariah song? I guess mine is "Always Be My Baby"

I love early 90s Mariah -- love the uptempo songs -- Always Be My Baby, and of course All I Want My Christmas Is You. Also love Hero and One Sweet Day.

For me, in terms of loving *songs* -- I think my favorites are ties between Celine songs and early-Whitney songs. And I love some of the early Mariah songs, too. But in terms of loving the *person* -- for me, it's no contest. I adore Celine and have never followed the others that closely.

I think it's FANTASTIC. I don't even mind that it's not a solo moment because the duet sounds organic and they play off each other, this isn't like when she threw Ne-Yo onto the Angels Cry radio edit to turn it into a duet. It feels like it was built to be shared. Plus Miguel isn't exactly a marquee act (a critical hit but not a big radio/sales act), so no one can say she's using him to get air time. I'm so glad that the press is loving it and it's doing well on iTunes. I'm skeptical about calling it a huge radio smash because there's obviously a deal going on, but if it keeps going up on iTunes, that's the proof that it's really hitting people hard. And it has me REAL excited for the album. Maybe she's finally going mature on us and just delivering great songs with a great singer behind them.

^ Absolutely!!!

Just bought it on iTunes, and I'm literally BLASTING it. If "Almost Home" was good, this is a home-run. Glad she's back on top form again. This could really become her 19th number one song. They should strike while the iron is so hot and perform it on American Idol this week! #1 on iTunes would be a given!

I believe the video is debuting on Idol this week and she's rumored to be doing the song next week for the finale. And then in two weeks she's starting Good Morning America's Summer Concert Series where this song will definitely be done. The only thing that worries me is Miguel's availability. I'm not going to say that this song is all Mariah magic because I really like his part, he's bringing it hard. So I want to see them doing it together and translating that vocal chemistry to the stage.

It's been like this ascending ladder - Triumphant was a DISASTER imo, I have no clue what anyone was thinking there. Then Almost Home came and it was one of the most melodic, colorful things she'd done in a long while, and now this is just STEAMROLLING over all of that. If this song doesn't do well, it'll be a real shame.

It's so current-sounding and vibrant, but at the same time it's not trendy (save that title). It sounds timeless, something that can actually LAST. I hope that sets the tone for the whole album, I really hope we're done with the microwaved hip hop beats for a while.

Yes, the throwback feel of this one is absolutely amazing and infectious. And it's awesome that it's doing so well on iTunes based on name alone, given that there's still no banner or anything on the main page. Once they put some more advertisements there, it could go through the roof.

And I agree about "Triumphant". Aside from the remixes, that one was puzzling. And I absolutely agree that she has been moving on up since then!

I loooove the new song. Number 1 on iTunes in 10 countries and top 10 in 11 more. I'm glad it's something really different for her.

It's now up to number 12 on iTunes! :w00t:

And those reviews are awesome. Not that she's been away, but the Mariah is back comment takes me back to the Emancipation of Mimi era which was super exciting. Excitement is mounting up, which gives me a lot of hope for a solit, hit-laden album.

I really like the new song it has this motown feeling to it and oldschool that she used to do before Emancipation Of Mimi era.

I wish I could stay up to see how this song progresses more and more and more, as it's now at number 8 on iTunes, which is spectacular! :w00t:

I was really very pleasantly surprised when I first listened to "#Beautiful" today. It's so... beautiful.

Quite frankly, I wasn't expecting something this good from her at this point in her career. I thought she didn't want to leave the hip-hop sound she has played with for the last 15 years. Seems like, at 43 years old, she has finally matured. If this song is a taste of what her new album will sound like, then we're in for a treat.

I really think this is going to be another #1 for her. And it should be. She deserves it.

Right now it's topped 1,000 plays on US radio so far, but like I mentioned before, there's a deal going on so it's artificial. I really need to see how the song does in the coming days and weeks. It all feels great and exciting that it's getting so much play and attention but it needs to sustain when the hype calms down. Seeing that it's top ten on iTunes is encouraging, people are into it. The last time she hit the top ten on iTunes was Obsessed (which was such a nadir for her, I can't even know what to say). Is it truly not too late for her to get that 19th number one? :hmm:

Yes, as I've read, there seems to be a deal going on with Clear Channel stations. I wonder whether this went on for radio adds this week, or if it will be sent over the next few weeks. I hope they push it hard. It'll be incredible if she got her 19th number one after all the flak she's received over her releases in the past few years Edited by LuisMa

It's up to around 1,500 plays now. I just heard it on the radio for the first time after like 5 dance-pop moments in a row. It sounded so alive and *right*

The song apparently has broken the record set by Born This Way for the largest opening day in American radio history. 1,850 spins out of the gate.

Haha I check the forum from time to time but I stopped posting for some reason.

I'm really surprised to see the success of this song so far. For the record Lady Gaga also had a Clear Channel deal for "Born This Way" so they are on even ground. It seems like there was some itunes glitch for the past few hours and she lost download for 3 hours. I hope they fix this thing soon.

It also debuts at number 36 on Mediabase's Top 100, which is amazing. I think not even "Obsessed" debuted this high. I can't wait for the video premiere. :w00t:

Once again she's the featured singer in her own song. The first 90 seconds of this song only consist of Miguel vocals with some barely noticiable bits of MC vocals in the background. Edited by GoldenLeaf

A deal with Clear Channel stations ? Isn't this a (disguised) form of PAYOLA ?

Definitely, The Roof. Butterfly is just probably one of my favorite albums of hers in general. I've also been listening to All In Your Mind a lot lately haha.

I like the new song, it took a while to get into though.

Mariah Carey's '#Beautiful' Off to Strong Radio, Sales Start

By Gary Trust, New York

| May 07, 2013 3:20 PM EDT

The duet with Miguel garners first-day airplay at Clear Channel radio, while debut-week sales are projected at more than 100,000

Mariah Carey's new single, "#Beautiful," is logging an impressive beginning, thanks to hefty first-day airplay across an array of Clear Channel Media and Entertainment-owned radio stations and a solid initial sales forecast.

The song, featuring Miguel, who co-wrote and -produced it with Carey, and lead single from her 13th studio album, expected this summer on Island Def Jam, has drawn 29 million all-format audience impressions (as of this posting), according to Nielsen BDS, since its release yesterday (May 6).

Beginning at 7 a.m. EST yesterday, "#Beautiful" played at the top of each hour until 11 p.m. on approximately 230 pop, rhythmic, adult contemporary, adult pop and R&B/hip-hop Clear Channel stations. "Mariah Carey is a music icon. Using the power of our radio stations to launch her new single is a unique opportunity to display our collective strength to the record community around the country," Tom Poleman, Clear Channel president of national programming platforms, said in a statement.

While stations in other chains have played "#Beautiful" since its arrival, including CBS Radio-owned Pop Songs panelists WDZH Detroit (17 plays yesterday), WBBM Chicago (10) and WODS Boston (seven), the majority of the song's airplay has stemmed from Clear Channel's promotion.

How are the song's Billboard Hot 100 fortunes shaping up? "#Beautiful" looks likely to debut in the Radio Songs chart's top 50 when the chart is compiled tomorrow. While it also was released for digital purchase yesterday (at 8 a.m. EST) and to streaming services today, only its airplay yesterday and today will count toward this week's Hot 100 (as the airplay tracking week ends on Tuesday each week; the sales tracking week ends each Sunday). The two-day audience sum might be enough for it to debut on the lower half of the Hot 100 when highlights of the chart are revealed on Billboard.com tomorrow.

Based on early indications from industry sources, Billboard projects that "#Beautiful" could sell more than 100,000 downloads by the end of the tracking week on Sunday (12). That number could, however, change dramatically in the coming days. But, such a sum would likely spur a lofty jump (or debut) on next week's Hot 100. Next week's chart would, however, cover airplay from Wednesday May 8 through Tuesday (14), so the song's first day of Clear Channel promotional airplay would not contribute to next week's Hot 100.

Also aiding the song's first-week profile, its video will premiere tomorrow night on Fox's "American Idol," on which Carey serves as a judge. The clip will be available on Vevo and YouTube immediately following the premiere.

Once the song debuts, Carey will expand her illustrious Hot 100 history. She boasts 18 No. 1s, the most among solo artists and second overall only to the Beatles' 20. She's tallied 44 Hot 100 entries, 27 of which have reached the top 10. She last reached the top 10 with the No. 7 hit "Obsessed" in 2009 and last led the list with "Touch My Body" in 2008.

We need you back, Nikola!

And OMG! I'm totally fangirling here but #Beautiful is soooo good that I just wanna cry. :wub2: Even my dad has been humming this song all day long and asked me to gift him a copy of this song from iTunes so that he can listen to it on his iPad
