Yeah I heard that Mariah called Celine & wished her happy birthday in 2004 I think & Celine got her some lotion or something but honestly I really doubt that they don't like each other. You can be a fan of music and see that what someone says is clearly an attack or a bite at someone else, and Mariah is pretty famous for that. She was being disrespectful in my opinion and it seems the interview, parts of the whole interview, was a bite at Celine. That's my opinion and there is no reason for you to be so upset or sarcastic at anyone for expressing how they feel about it. And you may think that because people are Celine fans they are taking it out of context and turning it into something more than it is and that can definantly be true, so I don't deny that, especially beings this interview is like 13 years old? but I honestly don't really care one way or the other what Mariah does, i'm taking this at face value. I agree, I also doubt they don´t like each other. I saw somewhere picture of Céline and Mariah from rehershal 2008 Grammy nomiations show and it didn´t seems they don´t like each other.

ive been here since 2006 & dj's posts hav caught my attention since 2007, i guess[?] [well... he's Indian & i am too; i mean, u dont see a lot of them Indians post here, so... ] and ive always found him to be favoring Celine first & then Mariah. i think ive even crossed words with him a few times earlier for taking slight digs at Mariah in some of his posts [well... coz for me, Mariah is #1 & Celine a close 2nd and im not sorry!!]. he may be a big Mariah fan but im sure he's a Celine fan first!! he's definitely sarcastic but i dont think he's upset! maybe he's reacting like that bcoz this discussion was tired & done before!!!

 

talk about that so-called video of Mariah taking a dig at Celine, i didnt know it was that hard to see that it was a misinterpreted fan-made video!! the original video was one of Mariah's Vh1 interviews where she was talkin about her performance with Aretha; she was rather responding to comments regarding her "Chain of Fools" performance where she sang only 1/4th [...and looked like she got dumped by Aretha] while Aretha sang 3/4th the song, when it shoulda been 1/2-1/2 !!! i think she just mentioned the "testimony" performance to mention the fact that she was moving towards the back-up singers coz she felt like thats where she belonged when Aretha is on stage. in the original interview video Celine is NOT shown or even mentioned i guess . now, if u still think Mariah was taking bites at Celine, i dont know what to say ; u can stick with ur opinion.

i personally would like to think of it as, Mariah was talkin about nooneelse but herself! when she said "hello?" she probably mustve been thinkin "Mariah Carey & Aretha Franklin on the same page??? NO WAY!!!" she probably wasnt even thinkin about Celine. i mean, so far ive never got any rivalry vibe between Celine & Mariah [im talkin about the artists, not fans] ever!! so why would she want to make double meaning comments referring to Celine? ...and who would want to take digs on Celine ?

even as artists, Celine & Mariah are 2 worlds! early 90s boring safe-image Mariah is NOT the real Mariah. Celine is a pop-classical singer with a rock edge; Mariah's true love is R&B. she makes contemporary R&B-pop albms to satisfy her older fans who like her ballads.

when i first saw that interview back in 2003, i never even thought about Celine or got the feeling that Mariah was hinting on somebody. Mariah has a knack of blabbering while doing interviews; these interviews are edited; we can never tell what part they edited off. Maybe she did explain herself what she was talkin about.

There is a hell of a lot more to music than just the voice itself. People have the voice God given them - there influence won't relflect in wanting to sound vocally like another singer. The influence comes in the artistry and musicianship an artist has shown in their songs, their genre, and throughout there career.

 

Aretha, Whitney, Mariah are high up.....Celine is at the very bottom. Her influence starts and ends with Charice.

 

People respect Celine for her voice, but that's about it.

 

Celine has not done anything "Revolutionary" in music. She hasn't knocked walls down, she hasn't created trends, she hasn't done much of anything besides release albums that people enjoy.

 

To say that any of her albums have had an impact on how someone else wants to pursue there career is silly. Her albums have good songs, but nothing that has changed music.

 

She has been a follower in every sense of the word....

Following the birth of her twins, Mariah Carey talks parenthood, hubby Nick and that nude photo shoot...

 

 

Proud parents Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon have finally settled in at home with their beautiful twin babies Moroccan and Monroe after a dramatic few weeks following the birth of their first children together. The singer had to spend an extra two weeks in hospital after delivering the twins, who both weighed in at just under 6lb. So when she emerged in a black Rolls-Royce with her husband when they drove their bundles of joy home from the hospital for the first time, Mariah understandably had a look of relief on her face. 'I'm feeling so blessed,' she Tweeted after returning to her pad. 'I just finished singing to the babies (softly!).'

 

Here, Mariah opens up in her own words about becoming a mother, Nick's reaction to fatherhood and how she felt about her nude pregnancy photo-shoot...

 

I could not do the having a child thing half-heartedly...

I couldn't just be like: 'I'm having a child, yay, let me get a nanny so I can give her the baby - take the kid.' That doesn't work for me. I don't believe in that.

 

Being a mother is probably the hardest job in the world...

It was so much fun designing the twins' room...

I had such specific ideas I wanted implemented. I wanted to create a beautiful, tranquil, cosy environment for the babies. Everything matches, but pieces are individualised to celebrate the twins as separate entities. I wanted to do more than cookie-cutter styles in blue and pink.

 

We need to have Mother's Day once a week...

It's hard to have kids in this world. I have so much respect for mothers everywhere, especially those who've had difficult pregnancies or given birth to multiples.

 

You've gotta take care of yourself...

You have to try and stay pretty, you know. My life is bizarrely healthy in some ways. I have to be overly aware of people holding the microphones. Singer turned into that know that if someone touches your microphone you have to sterilise it.

 

This is one of the few times in my career that I've actually taken it easy...

Well, sort of. I am looking forward to spending quality time with the babies and Nick, and that's our plan.

 

I've been trying to hold on to a shred of privacy...

This have nothing to do with the fact that they were influenced by Celine.

 

Honestly, I don't see any difference between Rihanna, Lara Fabian, Vanessa Hudgens, Josh Groban, Delta Goodrem or even Yuna Itō mentioning Celine as an influence. They might don't have the same level of commercial success but that doesn't change the fact that these singers were influenced, as individuals, by Celine.

 

Whether those singers are flop artists or not, that's a completely different story anyway. It simply shows that some people are more lucky than others.

 

So according to your theory that would make Celine ''a better'' influence if she had influenced Britney Spears and Justin Bieber instead of Lara Fabian and Delta Goodrem? That's ridiculous.

Im not here for a Celine/Mariah fight beings thats dumb, especially on a Celine forum, but I know that Kelly Clarkson and I believe Leona Lewis both referenced Celine as influences, as has Shania Twain. All three are very successful. Though, in reality, many more people talk about Whitney and Mariah being infuences, mostly because thats THE genre of music for most successful artists of today, simply put. A RnB singer is most likely not going to be infuenced by a soft rock balladeer like Celine.

Mariah Carey was a big deal long before Nick Cannon, twins, and "We Belong Together" came along. She's been a diva for 20 years! And, back in 2004, she looked like a poufy princess at P. Diddy's 35th birthday party. Mariah wore this long mint green gown to the big event at Cipriani on Wall Street in the Big Apple and mingled with guests like Paris Hilton, Tara Reid, Bruce Willis, and more! After giving birth to twins Moroccan and Monroe in April, the singer is now spending some time on composing fresh songs. Mariah's husband Nick Cannon has been discussing what is influencing her latest musical offering. "She's very inspired by her early work," Nick explained in an interview with Perez Hilton.

Mariah's past albums, Emotions and Music Box released in 1991 and 1993 respectively, are her major points of reference for her upcoming release. "She's been listening to her first two albums quite a bit," says Nick. Mariah is interested in reuniting with musical fundamentals, preferring to keep choreography and performance on the backburner for now.

"Mariah's done with the dance. I think it's going to be good though," says Nick. "I think she's excited about being able to be musical and bring the voice back." There is no concrete date set for her upcoming album's release, but it is anticipated to hit stores in late 2011.
