Being known around the world would also mean more people have been influenced by a particular artist. Supposing only 50 million people know Aretha, and 40 million of them were influenced by Aretha and then 100 million people know Celine Dion and 50 million were influenced by Celine Dion, so Celine is still more influential.

You make absolutely no sense. *exits thread*

^No, that made some sense. In the musical world, of course Aretha has more influence on artists, just like Tina and Barbra because they set the stage for any female act to follow. On the other hand, in a worldwide stage, people mimic Celine, Whitney, and Mariah's styles 10x more than Aretha's. Aretha is not as popular, fan-wise, as the previously mentioned as well. That's just fact. Aretha seems praised, but not so much adored, especially compared to her own contemporaries- Tina Turner and Barbra Streisand. Mariah is praised but not adored, which is why she can't sell out small theatures, and Celine is adored but not praised, which is why you rarely hear her name on American Idol or X Factor, but she can sell out 60,000 seats in Dublin in 15 minutes. Whitney, like Barbra is praised and adored. Tina sells tons of tickets, but not as much in the US as in Europe and worldwide, and she is just beginning in the past few years to get recognized for her success'.

Congrats to the new parents!

Celine did NOT sell out 60k+ tickets in 15 mins. I doubt any server by a ticketing agency would be able to handle that much traffic :mdr:

And to no one in particular:

Considering this is a Celine board, it is natural for people to comment about how Celine is in high regard, same goes for the Mariah boards where they praise Mariah and its the same in every diva's board where they praise their respective divas. But sometimes its funny (and ridiculous at times) to see how some "fanatics" don't even have their eyes open and keep on posting without even considering the facts and statistics, or even remotely trying to find out what the truth is/was.

I'm done! :flowers:

You made a good point about people mimicing Celine, Whitney and Mariah more. I would think that is a form of influence lol. But again, I think they are all equally influential in their own way. Aretha, maybe not as much now days considering what kind of music is popular (soul has been out of the mainstream for quite awhile).

Go to Aretha's site, (if there is any) and i'm pretty sure there isn't much activity there. Look at Celine's site, there are always a lot of Celine fans coming to this forum.

and scramasboy, thanks for agreeing with my logic. :)

I support your logic too. :D This might be a never-ending argument, but we have darn good support for our side of it.

Thanks and yeah! it might be a never ending argument, but we have some good points.

What does the activity on an internet fan forum have the slightest bit of relevance to an artist's influence in the industry?

Not only do I disagree with your logic, but it is irrelevant all together.... Influence is not about the fans, or selling albums, or concert tickets, or any of that. It's about how that artist has an impact on the music industry, and more importantly the other artists, current and up and coming. It's about how an album shapes the sound of music, and impact another artist to follow in their footsteps.

Your logic does absolutely nothing to support that.

Yes, i just wish we could all agree on the fact that all artists have influenced at least someone. Does quantity matter? I don't think so...but i do see the side of the argument about who is mimiced most often (i think scramasboy brought that up)

Okay, well first off, Aretha isn't mimicked because she is too much of a legend and no one dares to do it out of respect!!

I used to be a big Mariah fan before there was Celine. In fact, she was my first idol. She woke me up to wanting to be a singer, something i hav wanted since I was little but my lovely wonderful mother...squashed it for me good!

Then in the late 90's, I fell in love with the most incredible, remarkable man who was so supportive of my being a Mariah fan. I was, at the time, wanting, if this makes any sense, to be the next of her. He taught me that was impossible...at first i was pissed, now I get it!

When we broke up, listening to her became too painful, well, that and her music going down the drain as she only sings with rap artists now. It's too hard to hear Mariah and remember so many wonderful things thar are just now memories. it is like the line says, "a place in time still belongs to us." So, I am very behind, what did she and Nick have, thank goodness it was with him not Tommy Matola, what did they name it and when?

thanks

Oh dear, I hope you can listen to her music now without feeling pain. Never ever let someone take away your love for singing or a singer. :)

As for the twins, we don't know their names yet. But they were born on Mariah and Nick's anniversary..:D

Thank you. I still can't hear her though, partly because I do not like her music now. I miss the Mariah of the 90's.

It is a form of influence. Indeed, Celine had a great impact in the music industry that's why her albums, especially her albums in the 90's sold really well and her las vegas shows are sold out, and has her own perfume, etc....

If you are pointing out influence in singing, then i could say i am influenced by Celine. i believe most celine fans are being influenced by Celine. So the more people or the more fans a particular artist has, the more likely the artist is more influential.

Aretha? Those were the days. Who is actually singing like Aretha? Singing high notes doesn't mean one is influenced by Aretha.

Not trying to switch my side of the argument, but a friend of mine brought up this point. Wouldn't Aretha be the most influential in the sense that she has been around more and a lot of people have sung her songs (remakes, covers on TV contests like idol, etc)? I see that side of the argument..but then again a lot of people have sung Mariah and Celine songs and those two have been in the mainstream more recently than Aretha.

That's still freaking amazing. Anyone not impressed by that statistic doesn't understand ticket sales.

Oh the twin names...quite unique. Love Monroe :D

I like the name Monroe :) It makes sense though because when she said that the names both started with M. I never even thought of Monroe X) I should've thought of it though because Marilyn is one of Mariah's favorite people :P

I honestly would've never thought Moroccan Scott. I like the way it sounds though :)

Morrocan :puke: Monroe eh it's alright

Oh and can I just add that I HATE when people give twins names that start with the same letter or that rhyme, yeah they are twins but they are totally different people so give em names that are different.
