Tyler1991 Posted December 19, 2010 at 09:29 PM Posted December 19, 2010 at 09:29 PM Amazing. Finally she can belt out full chest notes again. Most of those belts were lipped. She sang a good portion of the songs live, but she did lip a lot of the belts. Not all of them. Most the ones she attempted she struggled. She has always had the range to do her belts, she has just struggled on her breathing control. She hit some great notes on her tour, but struggled afterwards to continue on without needing to stop and catch her breath. She did sing the ending note in OCAYF live though. It was surprising, but she did struggle a bit with it. Quote

Tyler1991 Posted December 21, 2010 at 07:33 AM Posted December 21, 2010 at 07:33 AM Yep. Mariah's lipping is.... flawless. She sucks at the actual lipping, but when she does a decent job, it's impossible to tell because she is so inconsistent. With Celine, you can pretty much know whether it will be live or not based off of where the performance is, where it will air, and what song it is. Celine does all her US promo live, lips foreign promo, and of course has her routine for the tour. Mariah on the other hand may (surprisingly) sing it live in one promo, lip it all in another - with nothing taken into account based off the location or the show. She also lips words. With Celine's promo, it's all or nothing. Mariah not only lips parts - but she'll literally go in and out from live to playback about 6 times in some performances, so it gets difficult. Sometimes she uses the studio, sometimes she re-records something. She has like 4 different re-recordings for one song. Sometimes she'll lower or raise the pitch to make people think it's live because it's lower. Or sometimes she'll take a 10 second run and re-arrange it. So what is normally heard in the middle will not be moved up and something from the beginning will not be at the end, etc... it's a mess. She is confusing to follow in that aspect. Quote
Nikosn17 Posted December 21, 2010 at 08:44 AM Posted December 21, 2010 at 08:44 AM ^ True. However at this point I can always tell which parts are live and which aren't. She's not a very good at lipping imo. Yes she makes effort sometimes to pre-record vocals and stuff but it's always obvious... her face always tells. Whereas with Celine unless you are a fan (or she's lipping to the album version) you can't really tell. To me Celine is very good at lipping. Quote

Tyler1991 Posted December 21, 2010 at 06:15 PM Posted December 21, 2010 at 06:15 PM Celine is better at the actual lipping itself. Mariah is better at covering it up with her methods and various tracks and arrangements. Celine's face is easy to tell sometimes. The Only One Road bootleg from berlin screams playback in her every mannerism....but others such as I Surrender or TPOL (from Memphis) are flawlessly lipped and you can barely tell. Quote
GoldenLeaf Posted December 21, 2010 at 09:02 PM Posted December 21, 2010 at 09:02 PM (edited) Of course a major reason she is doing an x mas album is because there is a very small chance it will flop and an even smaller chance it will flop as hard as the last cd she put out. It's kind of like.. hmm... I see it as like a protection from another flop album. Alot of people will buy this Christmas album I think, if she were to release another cd, I think it would go as good as her last one did [eh badly to be specific]. It's like she'll be doing this, people will think 'Mariah did good on her x mas album, lets give this cd a shot' for her next album, I think thats what her people think, idk, we'll see, thats what I think though. Her Xmas CD will not help her career for the simple reason that her career is over. i think she will sell more this than MOIA Now you guys see what I meant? Seriously, how many copies did MCIIY sold worldwide to date? 325,000 copies? Even her flop album MOIA did better than that. Edited December 21, 2010 at 09:03 PM by Calypso Quote

Tyler1991 Posted December 22, 2010 at 05:30 AM Posted December 22, 2010 at 05:30 AM Mariah didn't lip the entire performance, she lipped parts. To the casual fan, or the general public even, Celine would be much more convincing in concert lipping. Unless you're a diehard, you'd never notice her mannerisms as being lipping mannerisms. Quote

I agree. Most artists have a bluff. Celine kind of does, but I will definitely crown her the queen of lipping. To this day, I have to look twice sometimes Quote "...It's the circle of life. I think TFTEISYF @ CBS 1999 was amazing lip as well. That is a hard song to lip. Quote "...It's the circle of life. You gotta look forward. Tyler1991 Posted December 23, 2010 at 01:50 AM Posted December 23, 2010 at 01:50 AM I actually mentioned to someone the other day that her "performance" of that was the most believable she has ever lipped a studio track. That and Only One Road at TCOML concert. But part of why TFTEISYF is so believable is not only because it looked live, but it sounded live to. For instance, when she'd lip Taking Chances on the WMA's it was so obvious because it sounded so studio! Quote

The venue really does make or break the lip syncing. lol Quote "...It's the circle of life. You gotta look forward. Two days during the year there's nothing you can do about: yesterday and tomorrow. Tyler1991 Posted December 23, 2010 at 02:02 AM Posted December 23, 2010 at 02:02 AM I don't think it's the venue so much at it is the track itself. Though I will say even TTWII looked like on the special - but that could have just been because the backups were live and there may have been a live band. Quote

Scramasboy Posted December 23, 2010 at 03:19 PM Posted December 23, 2010 at 03:19 PM (edited) I can tell Mariah lips because of where she places her mic. She overcompinates alot too, moves around her hands and mic more. Celine always has been pretty good at lipping since she first started, and really it should be pretty easy, move your lips with the words and keep your live mannerisms. I think Mariah is a good lipper but as fans it's so much easier for us to tell when either lips. I can look at a performances by Mariah or Celine and feel 100% confident in if it is or has lipped moments. Tyler1991 Posted December 23, 2010 at 05:26 PM Posted December 23, 2010 at 05:26 PM Celine lips things by the verse. Mariah lips things by the word, and some days, by the syllable. That's why it is harder to tell with her. That and the fact that she'll go from live to playback back to live and then lipped again about 6 times in a song. Quote

Tyler1991 Posted December 23, 2010 at 07:44 PM Posted December 23, 2010 at 07:44 PM It makes it damn impossible to know if she is lipping. Honestly, it comes down to logic and whether or not her voice is good enough in the current era to hit the note.... It doesn't help that she has dubbed all her specials, concerts, and even some TV appearances. Quote
Scramasboy Posted December 24, 2010 at 02:38 PM Posted December 24, 2010 at 02:38 PM I dont get all the dubbing either, I understand LIB for Celine, but the wcd for Celine and all the dubbing for Mariah, wtf?
