disadiva Posted May 17, 2010 at 12:08 AM Posted May 17, 2010 at 12:08 AM (edited) Well it is husky cause Mariah has an Contra-alto tone in her low register'And that is beautiful' i like the darkness in her and when she goes higherthe brighter her voice becomes until the Whistle.Mariah has a very' very rare voice and tone. Some say she is Dramatic Soprano others an alto who has 5 octaves'But that is not possible an alto singer can't reach higher than 2.5 Octaves to 3 octaves. Mariah Carey is and will always be a Dramatic"Colouratura" Soprano.Who has trained to sing in the low register and trained to hit notesthat only dogs can hear. This is all training' not born with' Mariah was born a sopranojust like Celine and other high registers divas. Her dramatic tone comes from her african-american father' or from'Her mother Patricia is an opera singer and her speaking voiceis rather dark like Mariah's so i believe that her mother has a dramatic-mezzo-soprano voice. But this all guessing. You can't category Mariah or Celine in one vocal category causetheir voices are so versatile. Scramasboy Posted May 17, 2010 at 04:28 AM Posted May 17, 2010 at 04:28 AM I dont know what kind of voice she has, I do know that she has never gone higher than a G#7 which she has only ever done once over 10 years ago, when she was sick[??] which is her highest note ever, to date. Live, she has shown 5 octaves and no dog whistles. You can hear C8 and higher, C8 is 4 notes above Mariah's highest. Anyway, really that doesn't matter, hahaha. I think her vocal deteriorain compounded with her already textured voice has made her a raspy, husky singer. Also, your right. Superhigh notes like she does aren't natural, it's a learned technique from years of training. Same with Celine, being able to go so high in chest and mixed voice is from training/doing it so often/practice makes perfect, not just a natural occurence. I absolutely adore Celine =] I miss old Mariah, I am being honest in saying I'm kind of a hater because Im so dissapointed in the difference between 1994 to 2010 but I try and be respectful and honest. haha Quote http://68.media.tumblr.com/0215da4dacb45f3375c9bf63cb89e9c3/tumblr_o3edqjdnpP1s2lrfeo1_1280.png

I loved and still love her adult contemporary ballads and i love equally her mid tempo R&B songs now! What i feel is that her songs from Butterfly till now has more feeling, in the first years it was more performing and showing her vocal abilities, in the last 13 years it's bout emotions and feelings that comes from her soul. She's very honest in the lyrics and i love that! I would like to ask the ones who get in this topic which are your favorite albums of hers and why? Quote Halfway To Heaven... GoldenLeaf Posted May 20, 2010 at 11:50 PM Posted May 20, 2010 at 11:50 PM (edited) Here is an interesting 6 years old article from FoxNews. This just show us how fraudulent and pathetic Mariah is.Mariah Carey's in trouble again regarding plagiarism. A California appeals court has done the one thing Carey must fear most in life, aside from having to do business with Tommy Mottola again: It's reinstated a dismissed case and given two songwriters who claim Carey plagiarized them a chance to go ahead with their case. The song in question is "Thank God I Found You," a No. 1 hit Mariah had in 1999 with the group Xscape singing back up and Jermaine Dupri credited as producer. Songwriter Seth Swirsky — who's got 30 gold and platinum records and is married to the head of EMI Music Publishing — says that "Thank God" is in fact a re-doing of "Just One of Those Love Songs," a track he and Warryn Campbell wrote for Xscape. A chain exists linking Dupri and Xscape (featuring regular Carey back-up singer Kandi Burruss) to Carey. But more interestingly, Swirsky — who is also well-known as a writer of baseball books — may have the smoking gun. When he first discovered that he'd been ripped off, he called the studio where Carey recorded the song, and requested a copy of the work tape that was used when Carey was composing with producers Jimmy Jam Harris and Terry Lewis. "You can hear Mariah saying to them, I have a tune stuck in my head," Swirsky told me yesterday. "They don't know, they're just writing down what she says." Work tapes and notebooks of writing sessions have haunted Carey in other plagiarism cases, of which there have been plenty over the years. One contentious, unresolved case — morally, if not legally — involved the song "Hero." Christopher Selletti, a limo driver, claimed that he wrote the lyrics as a poem, then handed them to his passenger, R&B legend Sly Stone, who in turn passed them to Carey. Selletti was overpowered by Carey's lawyers at every turn through an arduous process, and the case was dismissed over and over by federal judge Denny Chin. Nevertheless, questions linger, since Carey's defense was that she was commissioned to write the song as the theme for a Dustin Hoffman movie of the same name. But the movie "Hero" was released six weeks before Carey's workbook says she wrote the song. Carey also got into trouble with a song she called "Can't Let Go." Writers Sharon Taber and Ron Gonzalez said it was their song, "Right Before My Eyes." Carey paid out $1 million to them in a settlement stipulating that no plagiarism ever took place. On the work tape for that song, Carey tells collaborator Walter Afanasieff: "It's too much like our other song. ... What was the section from the George Michael thing?" At another point: "You know what doing it this, this way that I was thinking is more like a Janet Jackson thing where it's like ... not that I want to be like her. ..." Before she spent the $1 million to make the Taber-Gonzalez case go away, Carey sent then-manager Randy Hoffman, partner of her then-husband Tommy Mottola, to see back-up singer Billy T. Scott, who had evidently played "Right Before My Eyes" for her.Hoffman went in with a wire and recording device, hoping to get Scott to contradict himself. The tape transcript wound up in the public court record, and I got to hear it a few years ago. "Your actions speak louder than words," Scott — who was also offered his own gospel album by Sony, according to sources — told an unsuccessful Hoffman at one point. "They always have." Carey has several other blots on her record in the songwriting department, including lifting the music from Maurice White's famous hit by the Emotions, called "Best of My Love," and re-recording it without his permission or knowledge as "Emotions." White called his lawyers, who secured a hefty payment. "Sampling is one thing," White said, "but she took the whole song." Carey and company paid roughly half a million dollars to Detroit songwriter Kevin McCord; a musicologist had testified that "Make It Happen," which was credited to Carey and C&C Music Factory, had heavily borrowed from McCord's song, "I Want to Thank You," which had been a minor hit for Alicia Myers some years earlier — albeit recorded in a different key. But Mariah has quite possibly met her match in Seth Swirsky, who says, "I don't consider her a bona fide songwriter." Unlike the writers in these other cases, he has the resources and the resumé to keep fighting for his rights. "I'm trying to defend one of my children," he says. Again, unlike in the other cases, Swirsky's other "children" are famous, including "Tell It to My Heart" for Taylor Dayne, and "Love Is a Beautiful Thing" for Al Green — currently heard in an Almay commercial. He's had songs recorded by Celine Dion, Rufus Wainwright, Smokey Robinson and Air Supply. His own new album, "Instant Pleasure," full of Beatlesque pop songs, can be heard at www.sethsroom.com.Source : http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,128514,00.html Edited May 20, 2010 at 11:54 PM by Calypso Quote

Celine doesn'twant to get in this situation many singer/songwriters inteend to fall in 'a pit you can't go out off.Mariah should take a songwriting brake and do like Celine "Give to Get" You give your soul intosomeone's work and you will be forever loved...and Celine is there sadly Mariah is not causeshe writes all her songs as she always says but get into trouble time to time of stealing someoneslyric or music??? So Calypso your theory of how pathetic Mariah is isn't true. Everyone who has ever been involved in the writing process has had problems of this nature. That just shows that you know nothing about this. Not to talk about how many songs Mariah has written and has been sued only a few times for 20 years (+ Can't Let Go and Thank God I Found You are pretty much the same song. They have very similar chord progressions.) And Disa please we all know that that's not the reason why Celine doesn't write her songs. Edited May 21, 2010 at 09:43 PM by Nikosn17 Quote

BTW, stealing someones lyric or music is considered as a federal crime by the law. We all know why most of the cases were Mariah was involved in plagiarism were settled out of court ($$$$). She obviously didn't want to tarnish her reputation. Edited May 22, 2010 at 12:52 AM by Calypso Quote
Nikosn17 Posted May 22, 2010 at 08:49 AM Posted May 22, 2010 at 08:49 AM (edited) Most of the writers have been sued. Obviously there are a few exceptions but they are rarity. Look at Beyonce for example. She has a scandal for probably half (if not more) of the songs on her albums for completely stealing them and putting her name on the writing credits. Things like this happen on a daily basis. And I would rather have someone who has written and produced his whole material (covers being exceptions) and who has been sued 2-3 times for 20 years than someone completely uninvolved in the writing process. And what about your precious Madonna ? I guess she's never been sued for plagiarism *cough* . After all it looks like she is also fraudulent and pathetic just like Mariah.
