New Celine CBS TV Special 2008 - That's Just The Woman In Me - 2-15-2008

You probably have heard of this before but Celine's drummer accused her of lip syncing in 99 and this is what she said

 

The thing that really upsets me is what's been said about my live performances...the way it was said makes it sound like I'm not singing live at my shows, which is not true. In the past, we've used instrumentation and voice samples on the up-tempo numbers. This just gives the dance tracks a bit more punch to enhance the live performance, but I think that's normal. As far as singing live; well, this is what I love to do the most. My whole life revolves around singing live, and I think my fans know this about me. Whether it's not talking for two days between shows, or not eating certain foods on show days, or not being near air conditioning even when it's 95 degrees...my whole focus is to keep my vocal cords in top shape so that I can deliver when I'm on stage. My fans know this, and everyone who's seen my show knows that I put everything I've got into every performance that I give."

 

 

The thing that really upsets me is that tonights performance totally contradicted that statement. I still have some hope that she'll sing live on tour though. We will see in feb.

let this be known that if you want to take my hard earned cash, then please rather sing 20 nursery rhymes when you come to SA. that way i will definitely know for sure you will be singing live. the cost of my ticket has been the most expensive of all the seating in the entire country and i am not prepared to pay this kind of money to see 99% of your show lipped. i swear to one living buddha that if this happens i will be sending you a demand for a full refund of the cost of this ticket.

Ok, so I just got back from the taping. I haven't been this bummed in FOREVER. I took someone to see her "live" for the first time, and was soooo embarrassed that I just wanted to leave. Not only was it obvious that she lip syncing, but she goofed up a lot. Poor gal. My friend snapped some photos during the show... I will try to post them.

 

RDMH... gggrrrr.... so not only was she lipping, but the ENTIRE audio we were hearing was playback. The band's audio wasn't live for RDMH, TPOL, The Medley, MHWGO...or any of the "hits of the past" where they were using audio playback from the Vegas show... RDMH's ENTIRE audio cuttoff midway through, and the only thing you could hear was the sound of the dancer's feet hitting the stage. No drums, no guitars, no backup vocals... nada...The re-did the song/entrance and claimed "we were too hot and made the electicity shutoff" WTF?!?!? We are not idiots. LOL Basically the ONLY time you were certain that everything was 100% live was The Prayer, with Josh. She messed up during Eyes on Me and had to re-do it. Her hand/microphone was by her side and her vocals were blaring over the speakers. LOL Everyone around me in the TeamCeline section could tell, too. No that I've re-read my post, I can tell that I am REALLY upset. Ah well...

 

I pray that all this was honestly in preparation of the tour, I mean to hear her sing The Prayer, you know the girl can sing. LOL I suppose I am just aggravated/let down, but know for sure that I do not want to pay money to see another performance of hers anytime soon. Good thing she's not hitting the US during the first leg of her tour. Let her work the kinks out and re-learn how to sing live. gggrrrrr...

"Something" is debatable to me. LOL It sounded good, but you can tell the crowd wasn't into it much. She had to "re-sing" this one, too. Both times she sang it, it sounded the same. Which could be a good thing, if you're thinking "ahh, she's still got it and can sing good, everytime", or it could be bad, if you're thinking "gggrrrr.... she's lipping way too much" that's just my opinion. LOL

The threat to migrate to Lamb Nation was just a joke, right? Bec. Holy Mimi hasn't done anything live since island people were taught the missionary position. Even at the Grammys, she brazenly lipped the high notes in WBT.

 

Moving along, I think the EOM number with Will.I.Am was very interesting. Could it be a foretaste of her next single in the US? When Celine talked about Chris Brown at the American Music Awards, there was a part of me thinking that she could release EOM as a single in America with him doing the background vocals. Instead of him, Will.I.Am might just be the one.

I agree. I think it's going to be the remix and released or something. It was great. There was a part of that was upset that she was lip syncing, and not doing it well and dancing too much, but the other part of me was glad I got to hear Will.I.Am's version again. ha ha ha

Hi Everyone!

 

Just got back from the Celine Taping at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles....and it was AMAZING....first of all she did sing four songs from Taking Chances...Taking Chances, Alone, The Woman In Me (AMAZING performance) and EYES ON ME with WILL.I.AM remix from the Black Eyed Peas!!!! It was the hottest thing ever and sounds much better than the original!!!! She actaully had to do that one twice because of some glitch....but it was well worth it...make sure to catch it on the special when it airs on February 15th on CBS here in the U.S. She also performed in improptu George Harrison number with a guitarist from the EAGLES...but don't know the name....maybe someone will list it. She had 5 outfit changes....and every outfit was BEAUTIFUL....omigosh you guys..Celine was so pretty tonight!

Hello everyone. Just a warning that this is me venting alittle. I want to start off by saying that celine looked amazing. She had lots of energy and mimed all the songs very well...she performed them well. She performed 12 songs as someone stated earlier and sang 2 live. This is unacceptable. This is lazy. Its manipulative.. This is a joke. What is worse..not only did she lip most of the show, but the questions for this show were the EXACT same from the Audience with Celine in the UK, and the icing on the cake, most of the songs lipped were taken STRAIGHT from the A new day dvd!!! Its..a slap in the face to her fans and audience. I am a huge fan and defend celine alot, but tonight I will not. She has been lipping almost every show for the past few months, and alot of her songs in A New Day WERE lipped every night for 5 years..including my heart will go on. Tonight they took the dvd..popped it in and pushed play..and celine actually sang the dvd versions of the songs. I have to say, I am shocked she would do this. To take something that was just released all over the world from a seperate performance and put it in a NEW USA tv special and pass it off as live is again a SLAP in the face to us and to everyone else. Her band members, her backup singers who have to mime along with her and pretend to play their instruments. I am incredibly disappointed that this keeps going on the way it does. They probably think we dont have any idea shes lip synching either and think we are just oblivious to it. I am and ALWAYS will be a celine fan. I love her and think she is one of the best singers and performers we have today. She is an inspiration and I will always be thankful for her, but this lipping has to stop. People have flown across the country to see her sing live tonight in this special. Just like the statement someone posted earlier about what she said about singing live in her shows..its a complete contradiction now. I feel cheated by all this. I really do. Thats just the woman in me lipped? Unbelievable A New Day medley lipped from the dvd, unbelieveable. I am sorry this is such a negative post, I had a GREAT time at the show, but I just cant get over the fact that this lipping stuff is still going on. Anyways for those who have yet to see the special febuary 15th..the show is done very well. Celine looked so good, she was hilarious at times, and i think this will be her best special yet even if she did lip 95 percent of the show..sigh

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned it but Celine was asked a question by David Foster who was in the audience and he asked "For 20 years I really want to know who wears the pants in your relationship?" Celine kinda paused and said "Well David you know Rene...and you know me. He wears the pants, but I am the boss!" Other interesting moments: When Josh Groban came out he almost tripped on a cord and fell on his face...When Celine WILL.I.AM hobbled off the stage with his casted broken left ankle....When Celine dedicated "Power of Love" to Jennifer Love Hewitt...does anyone remember anything else interesting that will probably be edited out?

I really can't believe majority of you can even sit there and call yourself a fan with how negatively your talking about this show. I was there tonight as well and let me tell you.. i could careless if she lip sang or sang live. All i cared about was that celine was performing her #ss off PERIOD. You act as if she is some new singer trying to prove a point. SHe has been doing this since she was 12 years old... she has NOTHING to prove anymore. It is obvious she can sing. We've watched her record the songs, we've watched her do rehersals... what more do you need from this woman? Her job is to entertain.. and if you ask me..she OVER DELIVERS in entertainment every single time she performs. Towards the end of the tonight.. after being on stage for 3 hours.. she was STILL making sure the AUDIENCE was doing well.. cracking jokes left and right... working her #ss off to make it a great show. So she lipped majority of the songs. As if she's never sang those songs live in her entire life? COME ON!...

 

If everyone is entitled to complain about tonight.. then i am entitled to complain about you all complaining. I actually feel horrible to think that her people may read these posts. It just seriously baffles my mind. She is a human being. She is an entertainer. If she came on stage and just sat there and didnt talk to anyone and liped the songs and walked off stage.. then ok.. i get it. She was hilarious tonight and just seeing her in person is enough for me.

 

Whatever... these rude posts are just so baffling and seriously so ridiculous. I can't even believe a celine dion fan place would begin to compare her to britney spears too of all people.. WOW. I can't even say anything more..

Oh I remember another funny comment made by Celine...she was looking down at the people dining below her...and she seemed liked she was starting to get hungry from looking at the people eating...and she looked at one table and said "Oh you have fruit!! Did you bring that??" and the person kinda replied with "Me???? No Way" gesture. You know Celine is such a grateful person...she was continually thanking everyone for being there, and she really did try to get through the show so that her audience wasn't delayed....the first number whe did RDMH and TC in that short gold dress, and she commented..."I'll be right back...this dress comes off so easliy..I swear." She is so down to earth.... did the same thing when I went to see her 'These are Special Times" taping at CBS studios, the taping was draggin on and she knew that everyone was getting ansy and hungry, so she said "Next time I'll have them put some food under your seats to eat" and she proceeded to sing that commercial jingle "I feel like chicken tonight..like CHICKEN tonight" while she flapped her arms like chicken wings.

sorry guys i know that many of us love RDMH but in my opinion it shouldn't be on tour! It's a hot number but she did it during 90s tour and in Vegas she really should try new tracks (D'elles and TC) but also tracks from other albums after 2002... I can hardly understand the short medley of IACBTMN/BYLM/TLYM but not the entire TPOL again and again... i don't know what is happening... Rene has wanted so much to tour and now it's gonna be a flop!

This is a television special infront of a specially invited audience. People took the time out of their lives to attend and watch a singer. They entered a contest on TeamCeline to be part of the show! If there's a time to sing live, it's then. This isn't some 5 minute appearance on a morning show, this is her CBS special that people will be watching for years to come just as we still watch her previous ones from years ago. I think it was more important for this to be live, don't you?
