tim123 Posted April 30, 2008 at 03:42 AM Posted April 30, 2008 at 03:42 AM Does anyone know if album sales from Amazon count? Billboard only calculates 80% of retailers and amazon was not on the list. Curious because I bought (2) from Amazon as gifts to friends Quote
Bellamy Posted April 30, 2008 at 08:09 AM Posted April 30, 2008 at 08:09 AM Billboard does count Amazon, iTunes and all online stores. Quote Please support the forum by ordering everything through our special Amazon.com link Click here. Thank you!

tim123 Posted May 1, 2008 at 12:19 AM Posted May 1, 2008 at 12:19 AM ok ..this is what is from billboard.com:Billboard estimates the merchants who report to Nielsen SoundScan's Building Chart -- Trans World Entertainment, Best Buy, Circuit City, iTunes, Starbucks,Borders, Target, Anderson Merchandisers, and Handleman Co. -- comprise about 80% of all U.S. Album sales. it doesn't list Amazon.com so if they count amazon for album sales it should have been listed which leaves me to believe they do notmaybe this is a question for Chuck Quote
Say What? Posted May 1, 2008 at 12:38 AM Posted May 1, 2008 at 12:38 AM The SoundScan Building Chart is a sample that gives an early look at how the final SoundScan chart will be. SoundScan's figures for the Billboard 200 includes Amazon and other retailers that aren't part of the Building Chart. Quote
Chula Posted May 1, 2008 at 06:23 AM Posted May 1, 2008 at 06:23 AM I believe the album will go down and disappear from all charts soon. The world tour won't help anything at all. I'm hopeless for this album. Quote

I'm hopeless for this album....but let's still be thankful that it still managed to reach Platinum status in america and sold 3.1M copies worldwide, which is pretty hard to achieve even for some 'high profile' artists such as janet jackson and madonna. isurrender Posted May 1, 2008 at 06:57 AM Posted May 1, 2008 at 06:57 AM Billboard does count Amazon, iTunes and all online stores. Itunes is used only for the BBHOT100, I think. For, albums, BB doesn't take into account amazon and other online store. Well, that's what I think as there are : -BB Internet sales ( amazon and so on... ) and BB digital sales (or something like that for legally downloaded albums). Quote
Chula Posted May 1, 2008 at 01:48 PM Posted May 1, 2008 at 01:48 PM Billboard has inaccurate methodology. They should modify its system. Quote

tim123 Posted May 1, 2008 at 10:46 PM Posted May 1, 2008 at 10:46 PM (edited) so here we are again w/internet sales such as Amazon. If they aren't included they should be -- from what I am reading from previous posts, BB internet sites are not exclusive to the sales charts contrary to what the report said from the link on Madonna's new album ... Celine's cd in my opinion has sold more than BB website cares to acknowledge Edited May 1, 2008 at 10:47 PM by tim123 Quote

Kyle_Jared Posted May 2, 2008 at 12:52 PM Posted May 2, 2008 at 12:52 PM (edited) This is so sad.....less then six months. The album will be out of the Top 200 next week......maybe it'll hang on for one more week because of 'mothers day'.....but it will definitely be out within the next two weeks. Lovely. A dead album in five months all because Sony thinks its "BIG FUN" to wait five months to release a second single! and the WRONG ONE AT THAT. Can you hear the headlines now when she hits North America for the tour: "Celine Dion hits North America this week in support of her new album Taking Chances....which incidently is nowhere to be found in the top 200...guess she needs to let people know it's out" Edited May 2, 2008 at 12:54 PM by Kyle_Jared Quote
caroline_reynolds Posted May 2, 2008 at 01:27 PM Posted May 2, 2008 at 01:27 PM Of course no! C'mon! The album sold 3 millions world wide, their has been problems promoting again with the second single but when legends come on tour, people dont look at the charts and the hit singles, they look after seeing a legend on stage with their favorite song and some new ones. incognito69 Posted May 4, 2008 at 02:50 PM Posted May 4, 2008 at 02:50 PM (edited) Interestingly, Taking Chances re-enters the charts here in Australia. Don't know what spurred it on, given the tour here ended a month ago and the album dropped out of the top 50 a week after the conclusion of the tour.Physical album charts: R/E 46 (-)Album charts: 48(-)A new day DVD: 4(5) The DVD seems to be holding up well here.
