rbysjti Posted April 14, 2008 at 10:14 PM Posted April 14, 2008 at 10:14 PM This is a tough competition as to who whould be claimed as the real best-selling female artist of all time. It's a good thing that Celine is one of them. and hopefully, becomes the best-selling female artist of all time. Do we have to include ABBA, a group of female singers? got this on wikipedia: for female artists selling 200 million - 500 million records ABBA (Sweden): - consists of Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Agnetha Fältskog, Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus- They remain a fixture of radio playlists and are one of the world's best selling bands, having sold more than 370 million records world wide.- ^ It's ABBA on the phone making a lot more money, money, money Sherwin, Adam; The Times; April 19, 2006; accessed December 2006; claims over 750 million Alla Pugacheva (Russia): - ^ Encyclopædia Britannica repeats a claim on its features website that Pugacheva has sold around 250 million records. Other internet sources claim figures from 75 million to 250 million records, though there is no official source for this information. Celine Dion (Canada): -In April 2007 Sony BMG announced that Celine Dion had sold more than 200 million albums worldwide. Cher (USA): With a career surpassing 40 years, Cher is an enduring pop icon and one of the most popular female artists in music history. Since her debut in 1964, Cher has sold over 200 million records worldwide as a solo artist and 75 million more as half of the duo Sonny and Cher. Madonna (USA)- Since her debut in 1982, Madonna has released many chart-topping albums and singles, and has sold more than 200 million copies worldwide. Nana Mouskouri (Greece-France)- Universal Music, currently Nana's label and also the owner of Nana's past label, PolyGram, claims that Nana has sold more than 230 million discs worldwide, recording about 1,500 songs in 15 languages on 450 albums. She has more than 230 gold and platinum albums worldwide. Wei Wei (China)- According to estimates her music has been distributed through more than 200 million cassettes and CDs in China alone, making her one of the best-selling artists in the world. Female artists selling 100-200 million records: Brenda Lee, Dalida, Dionne Warwick, Dolly Parton , Donna Summer, Janet jackson, Mariah Carey, Mireille Mathieu, Patti Page, Tina Turner, Valeriya and Whitney Houston. Taking Chances album will reach 3,000,000 copies this month. The movement is slow. Release the third single please!!!!! Quote
Bellamy Posted April 15, 2008 at 02:34 AM Posted April 15, 2008 at 02:34 AM That list just make me laugh. Wei Wei? 200 million? Pirated maybe. Quote Please support the forum by ordering everything through our special Amazon.com link Click here. Thank you!
pat200 Posted April 15, 2008 at 08:14 AM Posted April 15, 2008 at 08:14 AM then if we add celine's pirated stuff she would have "sold" 500 million lolFor real, the only two contenders for that title are celine and madonna with the latter having the edge especially due to her singles... Quote
tal-sh2 Posted April 15, 2008 at 09:28 AM Posted April 15, 2008 at 09:28 AM Cher is 200M with albums and singles, not albums only.Madonna is Celine is in the competition...Madonna has sold 180.2M copies for albums, include her Soundtracks.Celine has sold 200M, not include soundtracks.Well, include "Titanic" and "Beauty And The Beast" and Soundtracks - 233M worldwide !Include Singles: Madonna - 290M. Celine (Let's say 43M singles) - 276M. Well, Madonna is strong in singles. René 2 Posted April 15, 2008 at 04:42 PM Posted April 15, 2008 at 04:42 PM Let me laugh for Nana Mouskouri She has sold 110 millions max. I think they claim false numbers in order to make promotion. We shouldn't belive in that. Quote

We shouldn't belive in that. You shouldn't make fun of Nana! You might be surprised how many albums she actually sold. She has been in the business forever and was VERY successful at one time in her career. Actually she might have sold more than Celine... But that was not in the Soundscan area so nothing is for sure. pat200 Posted April 15, 2008 at 05:20 PM Posted April 15, 2008 at 05:20 PM Nana was never popular in the US so she can't be in contention. And by the way, celine sold 175 million albums tops not 200! come on guys this is the same as saying nana sold 300 million! record companies always inflate numbers to make their artists look good. maybe the 200 million are shipments... We understand the number is somewhere closer to 160 million, putting her somewhere atop the list of best-selling female artists of all time. There is no official such list, so nothing can be determined with any accuracy but, if there were then these women would be somewhere on it. (credit: WireImage) Quote #FREEJAVITO
