Not necessarily. There are many countries that even though they sell lots, there isn't a systemised method to keep track of each and every single copy.

 

I don't know about other countries, but I can say about India. There is no proper method to keep track of the copies sold here except for the weekly data updated by IMI (Indian Music Industry) that are sent to them by the 5 major music retailers viz. PlanetM, Music World, RockM, MusicSystems and Music Div but these retailers are mainly in the major cities. Apart from these stores there are thousands of small stores that rarely send data to IMI. That data is in turn sent to music stores around India for their charts. So it is nearly impossible to exactly tell the number of copies sold. Besides, IMI doesn't count music downloads and music bought from online retailers and various sites but these are counted by the two major music magazines and use them for their charts. So it's kinda confusing to exactly tell the number of copies

It was Mother's day today in the UK. I think it's due to that.

Sales in South Africa are about 115.000! When will the album get certified 3X Platinum? The same thing in the US. OK maybe they're waiting for Taking Chances to sold the 1.000.000th copy but what about the DVD that has sold more than 150.000? It should be at least Platinum for 100.000!

In Europe, Taking Chances has sold more than 1.000.000. What about a Platinum certification?

 

 

To save money. Well, if RIAA is the one that gives the award and they know that Celine's album and DVD will sell more, they'll just have to wait until Celine's DVD and album are not really selling hot anymore. "Cos if they make a plaque ( or something else ) to award Celine and then the DVD album and DVD reached 5 or more times platinum, then RIAA would have to give Celine a plaque again.

 

So they'll just wait until they think the Celine's album or DVD are not selling well already.

the sales of TC is not that disappointing at this moment. it sold nearly 1M in the US alone and soon will be certified platinum, with no hit single in it. rihanna's good girl gone bad sold a little over 1M (1,100,000) with 4 hit singles. not bad for TC.

TC is not disappointing if compared to other artists' albums but Celine is on a different ( higher ) level. I mean, if she didn't have a hit single in One Heart ( which only a few people knew the album exists esp. here in the Philippines ) and still reached about or more than 6 million copies, then I can accept it. But TC has been more promoted and a single doing better than the single in One Heart, TC should have sold about 5 million copies in about 3-4 months.

 

A 2nd single should be released now. I'm beginnning to really love "This Time".

i guess IDAN peaked at #45 and TC peaked at #54 in the US. Plus HYEBIN, FAITH & SBYS were released and enjoyed moderate success in the US, canada & belgium. and don't compare her sales during that era. with illegal downloads everywhere, with no hit singles, a major decrease of sales of cds, you can't expect TC to sold that nearly impossible numbers. and u said 5M in just 3-4 months? cmon dude, stop dreaming.. she's no alicia keys.

absolutely! it's just a matter of accepting things on how people embraced this new album. this is no way a flop. not at all! nearly 3m in just less than 4 months in the market, it's enough. at the end of the day, celine have nothing to prove to anyone. 3M just goes to show that after her long stay at Vegas, she's still relevant in music industry.

 

its the year of alicia keys, carrie underwood, amy winehouse, jack johnson etc... let them enjoy their moments. the moments that celine enjoyed during her peak. their successes will not top celine's. that's for sure.

Well, she's no Celine Dion.

 

If it's just a matter of accepting things on how people embraced this new album, then Celine's album sales is not really that good. If Celine only had a great single/s, the album should have sold more. So this is a flop 'cos you yourself said there are no real "hit" songs yet.

 

If you compare One Heart to other artists albums during that era, One Heart was able to sell more than those albums that even had number one hit singles. So Taking Chances and with its promotions should have sold faster than the actual.

 

But I still have faith in the album that it will surpass Alicia Key's album sales. I also hope Celine's album will sell a lot not because of the World Tour, but because of the songs, or singles that will become very popular.

of course i know that. but let's face it, this year is alicia's peak and there's no way TC will outsell AIA. nothing against celine. but 'she's no alicia keys' means alicia is at her peak, a peak that celine enjoyed way back. that's for sure. alicia has all the keys to succeed with her effort on AS I AM. while celine only has her name RIGHT NOW. we're not talking about her FIY & LTAL years. its over a decade now.

 

and i guess this thread is about chart performance of TC. not about our endless debate on who's album will outsell who and the endless predictions on how this album will outsell the years biggest seller.
