This episode is so touching! Celine is sounding fantastic too! You can clearly hear the different between her Vegas voice and this day; she sings BYLM in a much less nasal way and the same with IDAN and ANDHC (although she couldn't have hit those notes she was scared or something). She's so warm, I don't understand how anyone could not just want to hug her! You'd have to be cold and heartless not to feel her warm spirit!

 

Okay no way to keep a dry eye when they showed the part about her father, that was just too much! God it was soooo sad, but she went on with the show and couldn't sing but did it anyway. She's amazing!

LOL at deflated balloon! I thought the same thing, when you see Heart perform the song nowadays even at around age 50 Ann still has got it and still uses her voice to the extreme where Celine just stands there like a deer in the headlight. For the most part though compared to X Factor her voice was really good and she definitely could have done more with the song!

 

I agree. I like the fact that Celine chose this song to be on the album but I still like the original arrangement better. Ann Wilson of Heart still has one of the best voices in rock, male or female and did a great job at singing the original version. But, Celine still sounds great!

That performance of Taking Chances was SOOOOOOOOO much better than X Factor! A few pitchy spots but honestly so much better!

 

AH and they just showed a commercial for her 2008 World Tour appearance in Salt Lake City, got it's going to be such a long wait for that! Made me so excited!

I'm fuming! I had a post-it note reminding me of the show airing today, had my DVD recorder ready, and was so impatient to watch it, but a lot of work came this afternoon, so I couldn't watch it!!

OK, I have a question about the end of the show. Remember that blog post from a woman in the audience that day?

She mentioned that the spotlight was put on the wrong audience member & that actually a woman behind the girl who stood up was supposed to win. Watching the show today, it did look a little awkward b/c Celine first said "She's french" - and then looked a little disappointed at who stood up.

 

What do you guys think? Here's the lady's blog post from the taping:

 

The moment that bummed me out came when...

Celine pre-taped a segment that had her playing musical chairs with the Oprah seats. Whichever seat she sat in was the same seat that made an audience member a winner in the Big Prize: seeing Celine's last show in Las Vegas on December 15. A spotlight was winding around the stage and bam, in landed in the middle section of fans. My section CLEARLY saw the light land on Lolita - the super fan from earlier in this post. Instead, a gal in FRONT of Lolita stood up, clapped yelled and was happy she won. Apparently, she saw a bit of the spotlight on herself as well and no one told her to sit down. My whole section had our mouths open and thought, 'um, wrong person'. At the same time, Linda saw Celine make a motion to Oprah right after the spotlight stopped and Oprah made a motion with her arms like, 'hey, it's not me'. Odd. Lolita handled it well, but you could tell, the woman was close to tears and her friends, also from Montreal, were soothing her. Oh boy.

That segment ended and Celine ended the show with another song from her new album, a remake of 'Alone'. I bit by tongue about Lolita, but upon exiting our section, I told one of the stage hands, 'Lolita should have won that'. He looked at me and said, 'Oh, we understand there is a problem'. Hmmm. Will Lolita get to see her idol? I don't know, but I hope those Oprah producers ensure that she at least got some green room time with Celine.

It was BLATANTLY OBVIOUS that the spotlight didn't land on that crazy person (who looked like a certain stalker from the OTHER forum)! I feel so sorry for the person that SHOULD HAVE won!!

 

Speaking of crying - I wept like a baby through the ENTIRE show!!

 

Especially the part when they showed Céline attempting to perform the night of her father's death!

There were SO MANY COMMERCIALS - the show was TOO SHORT!!

I agree with another post that she was kinda toned down performing TAKING CHANCES and ALONE, but this might have been her first time performing these two songs in front of a live audience. Wasn't this taped before she went to Europe?

Okay, I cried throughout the whole Oprah show! Céline looked great and sounded amazing! I'm sure she didn't "move around a lot" because she was nervous. She is human, ya know

 

During the show, we had a commercial for Céline's Taking Chances World Tour 2008 at Chicago's United Center 11-4-08. (Some DJ on the radio this morning said he'd never heard of selling tickets a year in advance and thought that was remarkable)! I'm kinda curious too why they are selling so far in advance?!

 

The show was amazing and I love Céline & Oprah!!! So many touching moments. Okay, for the three of you in the forum that don't know this, Diane Warren wrote "Because You Loved Me" to her OWN father! When I found this out years ago, the song took on a deeper meaning for me because I had lost my father!

 

Oh, I wondered what happened too when the spotlight was shown on the ticket winner, because Céline was thrilled and exclaimed, "She's French" and then nothing else was said!

 

Oh, and I'm SO GLAD Oprah showed Céline that road trip scene with her and Gayle! I laughed so hard the first time that aired and was wishing Céline was watching too!

 

Gotta go watch it again . . . sorry, I don't have the technology or the know-how to upload! I leave that to the savvy young fans in this wonderful forum!!!

I think it's to increase promotion on her new album. By releasing all the dates at this time, all the different cities' local papers are mentioning that Celine is coming to town for her Taking Chances World Tour and usually adding "Her new album is coming out Nov. 13"!! Very smart marketing indeed...

I didn't like her Alone performance.

Voice wise- great apart from the big bombastic note which sounded like a deflated balloon, elsewise very strong and impressive. The problem was her 'performance'. She looked terrified- didn't move at all and it was a stupidly reduced version. People won't want to see this kind of performance from her on the tour. Where's the Vegas showgirl with the ridiculously exaggerated moves- I want her back!!

This is a big song and requires the (sounds cheesy) diva moves. Like when she mimed it on Saturday Night Divas- at least she got onto the song.

 

No thanks! I'll take the toned down Celine any day. I don't think she looked scared; I think she looked intense. I prefer when she focuses on her singing and her facial intensity, instead of doing zany ninja moves a la "In Some Small Way." And the new songs seem to be doing her voice good. The small overly nasal Vagas voice is gone and the big bell tone is back!

 

Agreed, the scream was weak, but the rest was fantastic! Overall, I really enjoyed the show, though they should have talked more about the new material. Still, it's Oprah...this one's for the people who already love her.

Watching the emotional clip performance the day her father died was heart wrenching..... apologizing for the less than stellar performance that evening was classic Céline

Did anyone notice instead of the usually Oprah logo, it had "Oprah and Celine" in Celine's script-loved it

 

The LIVE performances came from the heart and lived up to my expectations. It's a shame the TC video wasn't shown although during the break, a plug and a clip from her TC video was shown confirming her Philadelphia show in September,2008
