firebird Posted October 28, 2007 at 10:40 AM Posted October 28, 2007 at 10:40 AM I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this, but...Simon Cowell LED the standing ovation! Ha, no idea if he liked it or not, but he's as fake as it gets. Simon Cowell giving you a standing ovation for a performance is maybe as worth as Kevin Kostner telling you that you are a great movie director. And someone said "I don't want her to sound like this on the tour". Of course she won't, she'll be in an arena where THOUSANDS of people have paid lots and lots of money cause they WANT to see her, don't you think that will effect her tremendously? (positively) feeling the love for a change? I disagree on that. The key-word is practise. The performance of the song will get better the more she performs it. Quote
xenix83 Posted October 28, 2007 at 10:43 AM Posted October 28, 2007 at 10:43 AM Very well said indeed, Celine's Blues!!!... Bravo to Celine! She remains true to herself since the very beginning till now. I'm thankful that after 26 yrs, she is still singing! And we, as her Fans are more than just privileged because not only are we able to still hear her sings LIVE, but she continues to make records, breaking into new grounds... for her FANS!!! I know this might not be her best performance but it was great all in all! Quote
nico robin Posted October 28, 2007 at 10:48 AM Posted October 28, 2007 at 10:48 AM It's so sad to see her fans not seeing the truth and blaming HER for a subpar vocal performance. It wasn't her fault, she was as gracious as ever during the whole thing but seemingly something was wrong with her ear monitors and the sound of the fake band. Some of you are acting here as if she did that on purpose! It's unfair to act like that considering if she COULD she would have given her best but the technicians did evidently NOT let her do her thing. She is not a robot and some of you are just simply missing the clearest and simplest fact out there: Her voice was in good shape all the way of the song. In is just that you can't differentiate between GOOD VOCAL SHAPE and being in GOOD VOCAL SHAPE + staying on KEY! Her voice was as emotional as ever, not thin or exhausted - you have to consider that the high unprofessionalism of the x-factor technicians coupled with Céline's demure were the cause for a subpar performance. Imagine not hearing yourself while you're premiering your first single on UK's most watched show! It's ridiculous to read some comments here that not even think of the possibility of the technical difficulties coming to hand. If that was not evident to FANS then I beg your pardon. No matter how high your expectations were you have to consider the context and not let judge Céline according to those expectations since they could have NOT been fulfilled by best will cause of the context of the situation - miserable conditions lead to subpar results! A number of factors contributed to it but the most important one - the publicity factor is of course once again overlooked. Everyone in the UK loved to see Céline on screen and there is no chance in hell media would tear her apart after a LIVE freaking performance! Good gracious... Her performance while subpar was clearly enough to create some initial buzz around her in the UK and that is what counts. She's out there performing, promoting and doing her thing. Cuzz to read such one-sentence-comments about "How much she disappointed me" or "how much it was to be THE come back performance and it wasn't" is cringe-worthy cuzz one would expect fans to go deeper into the MATTER and not jump to conclusions as bluntly as some do here. She deserves more than just your disappointment which by the way was NOT an intention on her part as she was unmistakably in decent vocal shape but the situation and the pressure did play their part here as well and are heavily overlooked by many here. And to say press in the era of articifially pumped silicon MTV dolls would DARE to even criticize with one word Céline's performance of Taking Chances is preposterous. She is one of the last ppl in the commercial music business representing real live singing and everybody knows that - her professionalism is unheard of and nobody in the press would come and complain about some slight vocal glitches that weren't even distinguishable for a normal person (non-music fan).Amen to that And someone said "I don't want her to sound like this on the tour". I'm thinging "not so much", so do you really think they'll notice the difference the way we do? see it this way, they'll be pleasantly surprices when they DO hear the song... it's be so much better... i could kiss you both right now ..you're so right, i already say it...she sounded great...i can't understand how her "fans" can say things like this..it was an awful peformance...terrible.... ppl she was nervous!! not to mention about the jetlag and besides it's a NEW song, performed LIVE..give her a break!!!! and Frida is right i don't think the ppl there notice the difference like we do..if the song hasn't been played there, and they're not familiar with it...they won't notice it....what else can i say in these 2 posts is everuthing...read them!!!and stop complaining Quote http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WTOLnq_3hiM/T-YMZXaW9JI/AAAAAAAACR4/bCmTbbqNEhY/s400/Celine+Dion+-+Signature+Commercial+Behind+The+Scenes+(23612)+%5BHD%5D.mp4_snapshot_00.20_%5B2012.06.22_00.44.23%5D.jpgI dOn'T sUfFer FrOm InSaNiTy...I eNjOy EvErY MiNuTe Of iT... I have to admit, though you will probably not be aware of this, there are many times I have disagreed with some of your comments on this board, right now you could not have put my feelings down any better! Celine has been given an entirely unfair hard time from some of the critics on this board and it's nice to see someone supporting her. Are we not supporters of Celine here? it's not like there weren't OBVIOUS signs that all was not right. I don't know, what can the poor girl do? Maybe she should open up a vein for some people! Macaronie Posted October 28, 2007 at 11:47 AM Posted October 28, 2007 at 11:47 AM The last part of the song was fierce!!!!!!!!! Ain't nobody telling me OTHERWISE. Great thing she is out there and promoting it. It wasn't her best surely but very much ok and the last note hit 100%. She got more problems with hitting the main refrain note. Nothing to complain about from me. Welcome the diva back in Europe! Finally we agree. Well said, Sebbebebebeba! Quote
Shaun Posted October 28, 2007 at 11:50 AM Posted October 28, 2007 at 11:50 AM (edited) Seb, wonderful post as always. I completely agree with you. Moreover it must be said that 10 years ago everything about Celine's life revolved around her voice. That was all that matters. Days and weeks of silence to protect it from everything. Now though it's all, quite rightly, about her family. Rene Charles is growing up and needs his Mum and her own Mum and Rene aren't getting any younger. It's only natural she's wants to cherish her time with all those people and not spend days in silence preparing herself for a live performance. All things considered, the power in Celine's voice and her overall performance on The X Factor was immense. stevo Posted October 28, 2007 at 12:21 PM Posted October 28, 2007 at 12:21 PM (edited) Can I just say that I was very harsh this morning when I came in from work and gave a stinging review of her performance. I've just rewatched it for the first time and I actually think it was quite good. I watched it on work on a tiny screen which was green with an old woman screaming at me. There were certain notes that were off that she should have really nailed (had it not been for technical cock ups)but it actually went much better than I thought on watching it with good sound etc. I think my cousin who sent me the "Boo" texts was just being a wanker. Celine was beautiful and handled everything so well and diplomatically. I loved at the start of the performance how she said 'thank-you'. How good was the BIGGEST SELLING FEMALE ARTIST IN THE WORLD promo!!!??? I love you so much Celine. Sorry for being mean earlier. If anyone meets her agin tell her her UK fans love her and are glad to have her back. Emotional now and ashamed! Edited October 28, 2007 at 12:23 PM by stevo Quote
thereason Posted October 28, 2007 at 12:21 PM Posted October 28, 2007 at 12:21 PM Hi all. Tracey Shield here. Some will know me from other posts over the years. Can I first of all say how wonderful it is to see Celine back in the UK. I have been performing my tribute show to Celine Dion called "An Evening with Celine Dion" for over seven years now, and over the last few years it has been hard to keep the show fresh and new. The main reason being, such little new material available from Celine. You can bet as soon as I heard "Taking Chances" here on this forum, I got several musicians together and we produced the backing track and sheet music to "Taking Chances". I have to say I have been performing this song now for over four weeks at my live shows, and it is the most challenging song from Celine in years. It is a hell of a song at the best of times but if you cannot hear yourself because of bad monitors or whatever the reason, as a singer you are doomed. I always sound check to this song before the show and nothing else. Celine had problems last night, I have watched it over and over again. Celine should be able to give one look or gesture to one of her "People" and they should be able to make whatever the problem is, right. A nod, a wink a flick whatever and someone should save the situation. Someone on the sound desk must be able to hear what she is hearing in her in-ear monitors at all times. Maybe if she had a familiar backing singer at the side of the stage listening to the monitors, that person would have an ear for what Celine needs to put it right. On such a big night this was needed. Celine looked all alone last night. Where was her support? This is the biggest show in the UK on her comeback! Technical things aside, I think Celine knew there was a lot riding on that performance. You cannot hand out advice to "wannabes" and tell them how to perform, without having a thought in your mind saying "I better get this right" The audience was made up of true Celine fans you could see that, but a huge amount of the audience would have been family and friends of the contestants, maybe saying to themselves my son or daughter is better than that. Celine would have had bad feelings over and over again. Celine could rest assured the crowd loved it. This was also the first time most would have heard this song. It is so different from what people know of Celine. The production of the X Factor on the whole last night was very good, and the build up to that performance was fantastic. A much needed boost that Celine needed back here in the UK. Maybe my show, when performed in the UK will start getting bigger audiences as people in England start listening to Celine again. Maybe I won't need to travel abroad to do my show so much. Celine will get over the fact that her first single on UK's most watched show! Was harmed by bad sound production. And that is all it was. Not jetlag I like lots of people fly long haul around four times a month to perform my show, and the companies NEVER give me first class flights. This was simple technical difficulties and not the fault of Celine. And If you are reading this Celine, I am just getting over the fact that I flew over 13 hours to Vegas a couple of weeks ago to see the show and you cancelled, it’s OK I still love you. Lastly stop going on and on about this performance, Celine is back and it’s going to get better and better, if there is anyone who thinks they would like to have ago at singing this new song, I may make my backing track available. Keep an eye open on this forum. And if you think you could do this song any better you could post it here on the net. Take care all "Celine rocks" Tracey www.celinediontribute.com Quote

With Anastacia? Celine holds her own and beyond. It's not fair to keep this pressure on Celine- she's not 19 now and her voice has endured many years of strain- but she's trained and as you might have seen in the recording sessions- her voice is in unbelievable form. She will be amazing Quote

LVCeline Posted October 28, 2007 at 12:49 PM Posted October 28, 2007 at 12:49 PM I think we do expect perfection out of Celine each and every time, it's probably not fair. I'm not angry at all that she didn't do as well as I hoped, because I realize there could have been problems with the technicians, although I don't want to completely blame them because quite frankly some of the notes were just not there. You can't deny she couldn't hit the higher note ..."somewhere underneath your SKIN..." That wasn't a technical issue, it was a voice issue, and I guess you can't really help it or not if your voice isn't feeling the best. There were several notes she didn't quite hit, but it wasn't the worst performance she's given in her life. The only thing that makes me worried is the fact that this is the 3rd time she's sung this song, and we've already heard slightly negative about the Ellen performance, and nothing yet of the Oprah performance. I do agree with Tracey (thanks for posting!) in that this song has always sounded really difficult to me despite people thinking there's no high notes or any difficulties; it's not a straightforward song, there's lots of key changes and intonations that fall slighty flat or sharp (whichever it is); add a whole key change to that and she just couldn't find the right key the entire time. I don't think anything less of her, but I really hoped she would nail it since there WAS so much riding on this performance. Quote

Celine is nowhere near match Leona? That's so funny. Leona should be the one scared as hell and nervous when she stands beside Celine. Hope Leona won't lose her voice completely at that time. I can't believe what I have just read: 'I don't think Celine can anywhere near match her at the moment'????? what the?So we have one performance where she is not absolutley perfect. So what? That doesn't mean anything. I think everyone on here knows Celine will wipe the floor with everyone. I understand that is your opinion though and this is mine Edited October 28, 2007 at 01:15 PM by CelineRox Quote http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm31/celinedion82/Emilylove-signature-1.jpg
Teodora Posted October 28, 2007 at 01:11 PM Posted October 28, 2007 at 01:11 PM (edited) Thank you so much for the videos! She looked absolutely amazing, in that killer short dress! She wasn't into the song too much emotionally and vocally, but jet lag and running around with your kid all day kindda gets you tired . So nice they showed the photos from the Taking Chances photoshoot in the background. It was a really nice performance, even if it wasn't her best. She was so sweet with all the contestants, I don't think there's anyone better to boost their energy and confidence. I mean, when you're an aspiring singer and the biggest selling female artist which also happens to have the most amazing voice ever comes and tells you you're great and you're doing a great job, it's gotta make you feel like there's nothing you can't achieve. That little skirt she had on during the coaching sessions was so pretty, she looked fantastic. Ahhhh, I'm just fallin' in love with her again, and over again I can just imagine little RC going into the phone booth and going crazy with his little camera, Celine had such a great idea getting him a camera and letting him document his trips the way he sees them. And he's old enough to remember all this, it's just great. He's the luckiest kid alive, I know he'll realize that when he grows up.And I can't believe what I'm reading here, about that Leona girl singing better than Celine. Have your ears checked people. That girl doesn't have half the voice or stage presence Celine had when she was 12! She doesn't have a quarter of Celine's voice or stage presence now! Celine can outsing anybody in her sleep! Not reffering to any specific comments here, but I think it's so funny that when Celine sings absolutely perfect, people complain she's too perfect. When she's not that perfect it's like "OMG she lost her voice" How stupid! Edited October 28, 2007 at 01:18 PM by Teodora Quote
Bellamy Posted October 28, 2007 at 02:00 PM Posted October 28, 2007 at 02:00 PM I don't know if anyone else noticed, the overall audio quality of this perforamnce is horrible. It sounds very hollow, like Celine's voice is not coming from the mic, but from the speakers there. The audio quality is much worse than last week's Leona Lewis performance. I think the ear monitor is nto the only technical problem there. The whole sound system has some problem last night during the performance. salsacolin Posted October 28, 2007 at 02:02 PM Posted October 28, 2007 at 02:02 PM It's so sad to see her fans not seeing the truth and blaming HER for a subpar vocal performance. She is one of the last ppl in the commercial music business representing real live singing and everybody knows that - her professionalism is unheard of and nobody in the press would come and complain about some slight vocal glitches that weren't even distinguishable for a normal person (non-music fan). agreed Quote I never even knew the song the orchestra was playing........ Celine would outsing Leona> leona would be fine at Mariah and Whiney but I doubt she could sing Immortality or make Think Twice sound good. She has a soulful rouded voice Celine's is sharp and edgy BTW - Can anyone find TC on Itunes UK - the single. They normally release songs for downloads two weeks prior to the shops and itunes is only updated on a Tuesday if they release it this week. Plus - they didnt mention on X factor when the single was out Quote I never even knew the song the orchestra was playing........ Ted Posted October 28, 2007 at 02:13 PM Posted October 28, 2007 at 02:13 PM (edited) Can I just say that I was very harsh this morning when I came in from work and gave a stinging review of her performance. You were a bit too harsh earlier. BUT we will forgive you!! Macaronie Posted October 28, 2007 at 02:54 PM Posted October 28, 2007 at 02:54 PM I also adore all the huge photo's on the background of her photoshoot during her performance! Just saw the mentoring and little interview. Loved both of them. It shows how human she is, during the mentoring. A good thing for the Celine hating Brits. Quote
