12. Celine Dion & Eric Lapointe - L'Amour Existe Encore

How could anyone applaud that? Worst duet I've ever heard. Celine sounded great at the start too which makes it even worse, she should have sang it alone. How can he even be called a singer?

I actually like his version, it's the 3rd time he sing it.. He sang it a Celine's Special on La Fureur in 2002 and put it on his latest studio album.

 

And he's the first and only male singer in Quebec to have sold 1 000 000 albums (Quebec only)

Speaking about talent sells! Bravo!

Well, his voice is definitely a "love it or hate it" kind of voice. :)

 

 

Not everyone is used to hearing a gravelly , pavement-dragging kind of voice. I remember when I first heard Garou's voice I had a "WTF" moment. :laugh: I grew to be tolerant of Garou's voice. Then, I heard Marc Dupre's voice, which is even more gravelly. LOL And now, when I hear Eric Lapointe's voice, it's like Garou's voice on steroids! :sofunny:

 

 

 

I mentioned that Celine is like a musical chameleon in that she is able to adapt her voice to the voices/styles of her singing partners. After listening to Eric LaPointe sing, there were moments (the soft moments) in which he actually sound as if Celine and his voice could "mesh" (if that is the right term). It just seems he opted not to which I think is unfortunate. Yes, he is a rocker (from what I understand) but even rockers have a soft side. Look at Steve Tyler from Aerosmith (may not be the best example but the only one I can think of at the moment :hmm: ) I did not enjoy his "interpretation" of the song at all, but I think there were moments when he was ok. Celine, however, was amazing and the fact that she was able to keep a straight face as he "butchered" most of his portion of the song, is a testament of her compassion and generosity in her willingness to share the stage with an artist she knows many do enjoy, even though his style is different from her own.

Garou struggled to squeeze out his high notes IMO....but thank you for the scans!!! So amazing! I want that magazine!!

 

Yes, he did struggle to squeeze out those notes. Being who she is, Celine seemed to be encouraging him on...

 

I wonder if they had an opportunity to rehearse together. I know when Celine does sound checks, she said it was mostly a warm-up for her to make sure her voice is in good condition. I wonder if Garou warmed up beforehand. It didn't sound like it based on this performance (not that it was bad because it wasn't). Is Garou's voice one of those voices where no matter how much rehearsing he does, certain notes are just not going to come out strong (I hope you know what I mean). I like the raspiness of his voice and I like this song. In spite of the missed notes, they seemed to be enjoying the moment very much, especially Garou. He seemed on the verge of a "chuckle" or two.

BTW, I forgot to mention the DVD would be DOUBLE DVD with menu and chapters. Cause the show is too long, if we make it fit in one DVD, the quality is not good. So we make it fit in 2 DVD-5 discs.

Wow!! This looks absolutely amazing! I wish the forum was around for the millennium concert. Then we could've had a custom DVD of that too.

Thanks for the scans and everything else. I started watching some of this footage on Youtube and this concert looked like it was fantastic. There were so many duets and special moments. I can't wait to watch the whole thing. :yes:
