That performance with her family was so strange! It's odd the way she seems so out of place in that bunch. She's so much younger and more glamorous than all of them. I just could not imagine what it would be like to be a sibling to Celine.

 

Well, the sisters were wearing "bridesmaid" dresses and Celine was in her jeans!

 

She is the baby, you know? She gets to do the unexpected...

What's happening!

It's a bit of a disaster. Her voice has been getting thinner (listen to the I drove all night opening), but now hearing and watching her at this Quebec concert.... She is relying on her microphone more than ever, and she s not daring to do anything remotely high and she fails to hold notes. Where is the confident Celine I knew?

It seems she's overusing her voice, and possibly technique seems to be killing her.

It sucks. I love Celine so much, but this seems to really be a problem. This past year she has deteriorated so much. Listen to the difference in "Si Dieu Existe" now compared to a year ago, last August.

It's not just that her voice is rapidly getting lower - she's loosing it's ease of ability and strength. Her range is more than ever in her head voice, and no longer with her chest and throat.

And I know I am not the only one who has noticed. I have kept reasoning it off until now. I have seen her 3 times this year live, plus numerous videos on youtube. This is not an illusion.

Yes, Eric Lapoint sells very well in Québec!! Not my style but his songs are normally a lot more "rock" than L'Amour existe encore.

He's a rocker with a rough voice but for some reason many people enjoy is rocker style...

I still can't get over some of Celine's high notes. She did some crazy stuff that night! Simply amazing! That performance with her family was so strange! I was thinking the same thing too- I wonder what Celine would look like if she did not have hundreds of millions of dollars??

 

Although, I do not find the song/performance strange- Reminds me of my french heritage- Folky & Fun- I liked it!

Guys- this is phenomenal. Just watched most of the vids again...I've never heard or seen her perform like this. She was just perfect. So emotional- so raw. Perfect. I actually loved LAEE, I think just cos of Celine's beautiful adlibs. With Ginette- wow...and with the abres feuilles song- so amazing!! She looked great- the leather trousers at the end...and the jeans- dear God. And those Gladiator sandals she wore with the Versace dress...she's an icon.

 

Now I am so happy about her as a performer again- she delivered hands down, a flawless and mementous concert. I'm very proud of her!! And enough cheesey declarations of lurrrve- bedtime pour moi. Bon soir all you crazy different time zone people x

It's funny you mention that because I haven't heard Celine sound this amazing in a long time. Her voice was in amazing shape and she was letting loose and letting the high notes rip! I know her voice has gotten deeper and thinner over the years, but it's still amazing and she hit some crazy notes!

I watched the full concert yesterday and I'm totally amazed!!

Just after the show I didn't know what to say as it was so powerful and speechless.

 

The rendition of "Un peu plus haut" left me really stunned.

Another highlight is in my opinion the song with the whole Dion family. It was so much fun there!!

And I have to say that among all those songs not sung by Celine, I totally adored "O Fortuna" performed by Dan Bigras. It was outstanding, his voice and the way he sung were really astonishing.

 

When it comes to Celine's songs, I really appreciated the rendition of "S'il n'en restait qu'une" because it was so perfect. She sounded much better than we could see on You Tube tour videos. It was probably because of the sound quality in You Tube viodeos and this in TV broadcast.

And I'd add "Pour que tu m'aimes encore" as one of the best rendition of this song live ever!!

 

All in all I have to say, that this was one of the best concerts I've ever seen, and of the best if no THE BEST of Celine's.

Samuel, it's 100% true, yes but it's not the first time she favours head to the chest voice actually. Ever since the Millenium concert she's been on constant slacking tour as far as her voice is concerned that is NOT to say that her voice is getting worse and worse, no, but her technique certainly is. There's no denying in that. Throughout the recent 10 years she traded sharpness for spontaneousness, impeccable power for this little French touch without screaming. Oh yes, you can surely notice she is "belting out" less but kinda "screeching" more - that's where those REALLY high notes come from, some of them as high as they only get concerning Céline which is nonethelessbutstillofcourse nice to notice.

 

Having said that you can't help but let her current voice be like it is. Even if you don't like it, it is coping pretty well on stage. Look, she sang this concert 100% live from the first song till the last song. Another additional thing is that you have to ackowledge is the natural deterioration of vocals that is taking place and we can't do damn about it. Céline is a "white girl" with a "white voice" and these are far far more fragile than other voices out there in the music business.

 

Her current voice is rocking and Samuel, I wouldn't worry about it one bit as she will get some proper vocal training soon. Have you read the article with the Oprah teacher Nagano? She is giving her lessons and just wait how she will sound after a full year of vocal exercices with him! She has an excellent basis to build up upon, tho.

 

And for the record - I find she sounds now better than ever actually. I know the faults in her voice but damn she exceeded herself with this magical concert delivering ethereal performances STRAIGHT ONE AFTER ANOTHER and sounded amazing. Not fine, not "just good" but amazing as for her current standards! that is even more evident when you watch the DVD or the HD version of the concert, Smauel. Go and watch and then judge. Never judge a voice from a bootleg recording or low quality clips.

I love her voice now more than ever- she was so perfect 10 years ago that it was just taken for granted and she sang with such ease- now she performs better cos she has to work a bit harder to get that magic happening- I prefer a non-sterile performance which is what we are getting when she sings now. Love love love it.
