That’s what happens when she’s been hiring producers that work for her already like Scott Price… where’s Kara, where’s David Foster?

Maybe Celine doesn't want that pressure anymore, but she should.

She has a big Paris Show coming soon..

I don't want her to end like Mariah..

I dont think its pressure. Its more "taking time to record properly"

She doesnt need to rush the recording sessions to do 2 songs per day. I want her to take her time to record quality over quantity.

Yes her pronounciation is not perfect. A few words feels like she’s chewing them but it’s nothing like the courage album where many songs I have no clue what she’s saying.   For the record, I quite like the courage album just a few irritants with it that’s all.

She’s been clean, perfect and with a firm routine that frankly I think she’s completely over and doesn’t want to go back to.

I love BPM and so happy that we have it and will continue to listen to it regularly because I always think things could have turned out differently.

100% Her priorities changed after having her first kid. I don’t think she ever went back to 24 hour silent periods before shows. And how could she? How could she now? She still has to be a mom. She can’t mime being a parent or do it through written notes. She’s definitely less disciplined, but she earned the right to be, quite frankly.

Agreed! It doesn't work with her current lifestyle.  I'd rather her be happy and be able to live her life the way she wants than have a perfect sounding recording.

Also, it obviously didn’t really affect her voice for many years after she stopped so it was likely more of a gimmick to begin with.

I'm from Quebec. The problem is not her voice here. I love her voice but her english accent and it feels the song was record very fast without much takes.

Feels like producers are afraid to correct her. Its like everybody is "oh Celine that's sooo beautiful" with her.

She needs producers to do what Kara DioGuardi did with her in the Surprise surprise recording!

I agree that Celine needs better producers but please No Kara DioGuardi. That girl ruined her own song just for the sake of being "tough". Surprise Surprise is a pretty good song but the result of that collaboration is Atrocious, one of the worst song is Celine's carrer. We don't need a souless singing robot.

BPM is far from being technically perfect but at least this is a good song with good and simple lyrics and sung with emotion.

Came across this today. With less production, effects and background vocals, her prononciation seems better !

I think she sounds superb on SS

Kara whether we like her or not… got some pretty vulnerable and superb vocals from Celine… I really wish we get a collab on her next English album.. and bring back David Foster for good measure!

Yeah, and that was the very last time Kara worked with her :P

But it’s the same recording, so the pronunciation is exactly the same. It’s just stripped down, and I personally prefer the original version :)

I didn't say that she doesn't sound good. The vocals are near from perfection.

What I say is that there is absolutely no emotions supporting the song. When you look at the studio sessions, you can clearly see that Celine is bored and a little pissed off so she delivered perfect vocals like a robot would, just to shut Kara up.

Kara was doing what Celine paid her to do… who needs a producer if you just do what you want?

Surprise surprise does have the most amateur/f***** up cringe transition in any single I have ever heard in my life at the same time… it’s tragic!

I’m still shocked to this day that she was paid to work on it but even more shocked that they still think it was good enough for a Céline album

“Surprise, Surprise” was better than almost anything on the albums that followed in my opinion . I think it’s a great song.

I was never a fan of "Surprise, Surprise". It does feel like a soulless song and seeing the behind the scenes of it explains why. I'm not a fan of Kara.

All this talk of “Surprise,Surprise” had me go back and watch the session with Kara and I have to say, anyone who has a problem with Kara doing her job baffles me… the song is her baby she wrote it with something in mind and then offered it to Celine and was HIRED by Celine and Rene to PRODUCE it, how are we giving her SH I T  for doing what she was hired to do? Celine is Celine because in the early day she had producers like Kara and David who weren’t too star struck to tell Celine what do to make it better.

Celine is ofc a star but in the studio there’s no room to be star struck or for “yes men”… I can only hope that more ballsy producers are hired again, they bring the best out of Celine, period.

All of this! PLUS is a great song! It’s well written. The lyrics are interesting. And I don’t find Celine to sound soulless on the track. You want to hear Celine be robotic? Go listen to “Let Your Heart Decide.”

The pleasure she had and her love for those songs was something that you could really feel.

I’ll take that any day over ‘potato-in-her-mouth-frog-voice’. Bring on Kara for everything.

I agree. I love Taking Chances. I’ve always considered it her third best English-language album, after FIY and LTAL. Like you say, still unmatched this century.

Same here even though I only ship IGNL because of the weird thing they did do her voice to sound higher. If it was in her natural tone it would be quite a highlight for me because I like the song itself quite a lot even though I rarely listen to it because of what I said before

I really think this is a missed opportunity from Ycare. The idea of making a song from Hoʻoponopono was great. The song is well written.

But the thing is he was very intimidated, he said so himself in an interview. Céline asked him to tell her what she should do, but he didn't dare. He said that you simply can't tell Céline Dion how to sing. And I think that's the main problem. Céline wouldn't be where she is today without the help of producers and songwriters who guided her throughout her career. That raw diamond had to be cut and polished.

The problem now is that, because of her superstar status, people no longer dare to give her direction or push her to refine a song and its performance to the level one would expect from Céline Dion. And that's incredibly frustrating.

But this isn't a recent issue. As early as 2002–2003, you could already hear her French pronunciation taking on an overly American sound in her recordings. I get the impression that she only really pays attention to those details when she's working with Jean-Jacques Goldman, almost out of habit or because she remembers what he taught her and the guidance he gave her.

Take Let Your Heart Decide, for example. She sings it with a very strong English accent, whereas Je ne vous oublie pas features virtually flawless French pronunciation. The same thing happened this year: Dansons has almost perfect pronunciation, apart from two or three syllables, while Bonjour, pardon, merci is honestly painful to listen to in terms of accent and pronunciation.

I get the impression that, for her, a gentle ballad is something that should be sung with a more standard French accent, whereas a more rhythmic, up-tempo song naturally leads her to adopt a more American-sounding accent. But that wasn't the case early in her career. She used to record upbeat songs in French while still maintaining excellent pronunciation.

Although I did not take part in this conversation, I can see its relevance to the overarching discussion that is about singing approach, enunciation and the potential need for guidance. All these concerns have been raised by certain fans because of BPM.

The Surprise Surprise topic was brought up by other members and yes it’s not bang on topic, but it’s somewhat on topic unlike the previous topic that you are trying to support as a very poor example.  😉
