Her pronunciation is very very bad. On the french forum, a big majority dislikes it. Anyway, it’s flopping even harder than "Dansons"...no one cares about it! At the beginning, most of us had to check the lyrics to know what she says. True Story. And don't get me started on the Window 98 made cover! Since "Dansons" , Scott is credited as a vocal producer. She never had vocal producer before I think. This is a clear indication that she doesn't want to be guided anymore by the producer of the song. Her vocals are now under her own control ( because Scott or Céline, that’s the same). We barely know what Ycare did actually...because Le Parisien stated that the song was recorded in April , before Ycare went to Vegas. The only good thing about the song is it has multiple vocal layers which is rather uncommon for Céline. Ycare admitted she only did a few takes. Well, we can hear it, Ycare. Lol And that he wasn't involved in her singing. This come-back ( shall we really call it that way? I mean she is more absent than when she was on break lol) is so bittersweet. So much struggle and work to come back wasted on such poor recorded songs and elusive presence is fascinating at this level lol 7 1 Quote

queenofvegas Posted July 26, 2026 at 11:24 PM Posted July 26, 2026 at 11:24 PM She grew up listening to classic rock and soul mostly. Those are the artists she always brings up as her main influences. She obviously prefers that kind of music and the huge romantic love ballads are mostly an image that her label created. That's her signature style that she's known for and that got her famous. Obviously as an almost 60 year old woman she is not going to connect with that music as much anymore. It makes perfect sense that she would drift away from that style. You can hear the rock elements come into many of her performances especially back in the 90s. She's said several times that she wished her voice was more raspy and soulful. I think she said this recently in the documentary. Most of the covers in her shows through the years have been rock. Not because she has changed or because you think she's an old woman, it's because song writers aren't proposing her good songs. Otherwise she'd be singing those. Frankly I don't think she's listening to any demos or concerned about what songs she is being proposed. She'll sing whatever they put in front of her for her contract. She needs another visionary like Rene. Someone who knows where her powers can be found. Furthermore, her covers on tour have nothing to do with her recording career. She chooses songs she has fun singing. I kind of think if she was given carte blanche to record an album, she'd do a cover album. Céline and René were a packaged deal - and without René, what he brought to the table is very much missed Damn what’s with the attitude that was extremely rude. The songs she chooses to sing as covers in her shows absolutely tell us the kind of music she likes because there is a consistent pattern. And she has said this numerous times in interviews when she talks about her artistic influences. It is completely different from performing a song that is a hit and everyone expects, and the singles to promote an album. When she records music she sings what is given to her and those are carefully selected by her label and management. She has more recording freedom these days because she is older and has more power in making those decisions so her music style has drifted naturally. Quote

As key as Rene was in her career I felt that he had lost some of his touch in the last few years he managed her career. At one point everything they touched turned to gold and in the later years it’s as if they couldn’t figure out what to do. The figuring it out seems to continue, more so for her English career than her French one. As for songs being presented to her, I believe the best songs are sent to artists that will make it hit number one and her team doesn’t even get to pick from them. Song structures have changed and even the best ones, aren’t the quality they used to be unfortunately. This just highlights the bad ones even more. 5 Quote Instagram: @delphis78

LukeD Posted July 27, 2026 at 05:04 AM Posted July 27, 2026 at 05:04 AM (edited) I think Rene lost touch in mid 00s, he was never capable of helping Celine adjust to the changing music landscape and evolve her music. ANDHC was an excellent comeback album and then the 'A New Day' residency made history, arguably being the most successful and influential residency ever. 'One Heart' was a record to keep the label happy, a gift to the fans, it included leftovers mostly, but was a solid album considering its timing. Celine had just released ANDHC the year before and released the excellent 1F&4T later in 2003, so things were going well. However, after this, I am feeling Rene could not predict how important digital sales would become and singles sales too. There was never a focus on single sales which dominate charts nowadays. This was also seen in the 10s where streaming and singles success directly impacted how successful an album was going to be. We are living in an era where 'singles artists' benefit so much from the way in which music is consumed. Celine clearly falls short in that domain, and I think that this is something a good manager should have foreseen. I also disagree with how 'Miracle', 'Taking Chances' and 'Loved Me Back To Life' were put together, I have issues both in terms of their content and structure. Now in terms of her catalogue, it is good to see Celine picking songs she enjoys singing on tour. However, her true talent is singing ballads. She is good at other genres, just not as good as when she is singing ballads. And this is the type of song that resonated with audiences more. After ANDHC that featured several amazing ballads, I cannot recall a single album to be ballads-heavy, and, importantly, the few ballads since then were not of great quality, IMO. And this also shows to me how Rene lost his touch. We do not see an evolution of the ballads genre looking at her career post ANDHC, and this was a missed opportunity considering the success of Adele. In my view, there was scope to release ballad heavy albums, do more collaborations with artists, and also include other genres to make each record more diverse. They only did the latter with 'Taking Chances' and that's about it. With the success of Vegas, they kind of settled and that limited their artistic ambition. To me, that is clear. emiliejolie Posted July 27, 2026 at 09:00 AM Posted July 27, 2026 at 09:00 AM Or we can just assume that a career has a life cycle : beginnings, rise, fall and death. Celine's career rose from 1981 to 2000. Then she "just" had to maintain the level, what is much more difficult than rising, and for every group or singer, impossible to do. So Céline tries to surf the wave, proposing different types of music, that would keep curiosity high and still remain commercially easy to sell. A career as a company has to build a clear identity to sell : that's was for Celine as for any other singer. I wouldn't say that René or Celine did not know how to reinvent her style mid 00. Celine's identity wasn't clearly the fresh meat of these times anymore and she will never be again. Celine grew up surrounded by Quebec folkore, chanson française, and the international big names of the 70's. Having influences does not mean you can make them your own. And when Celine covers songs she likes in concerts, it's great because it's new but to be honest she is far from her best ( Purple rain, Kiss, Love of my life et so on) She is now an icon because the children that idolized her are now adults, consumers, and buy music that emotionally remind them their childhood. It is said that the music we mostly love our whole life is the one we listened as teenagers. ( Well for me it works, I am stuck in the 90's and I have to admit that I have no interest for today's music. But being perfectly honest, we wouldn't know who is Celine and what she did in the past... would we listen to her last 20 years production ???? I guess no. Celine is an icon like Madonna, The Rolling Stone, The Cure, she will always attracted people by who she was and did, and no more by what she does now. The image of Celine, what she represents has taken precedence over the person she is a woman that grows, changes, ages. Her career, her legend have surpassed the woman. 3 Quote

I honestly don’t think I’ll ever get over the combination of the vocals, the pronunciation, the lyrics, the production, and the music. Nothing works! Ewwww… aleewwwr… with that huge, overblown voice. Then, Spotify automatically played Dansons. It’s not the song of the century, but damn, she actually takes her time. The timbre is purer, higher, and brighter. What a relief! You can hear a bit of the Sans attendre, SSDA tone coming back. It’s just a shame that the heavily processed sound suggests it still takes quite a bit of studio treatment to get even that result. I get that you don't like the song but is is really necessary to point this out in every single post? Many on here actually do like the song quite much. For example the "Ewwwww... aleewwwr..." sound you are describing is something really classic Celine for me and it really puts on a smile on my face when I listen to her at the beginning of the song, it's like a warm hug saying "hello again" for me. Maybe we can move on and accept that first: taste is different and second: she will never please everybody.
