New French Single: Dansons - 17 April, 2026

I personally love the song, I didn't expect her way of singing when it goes low but I love it. Of course this is aimed at French audience. If you listen to instrumental only, first of all it is so JJG plus impart you can hear the same beats as we had in the beginning of PQTME. It is made on purpose like a subliminal message. Honestly Celine is the singer whose voice has changed the most with the time but, I really love how she deals with her today vocal capacities. It add so much emotions since we know that she  leads a difficult battle. Beautiful !!!

For me, it seems like a song that will go at the end of the album. It's a Nature Boy, a Trois heures vingt, a S'il suffisait d'aimer or a Vole... I could see it closing out the album and it just ends it beautifully and you just feel content. It's not something designed to blow a hole in the charts around the world or win her Record of the Year. I can imagine the English single will be more mainstream pop/uptempo.

exactly, but for this reason NB, THV, SSDA or V were not (first) singles but it doesn't mean they are bad / that we don't like them / that they cannot be performed live.

Here in France, a lot of radio stations are going to play the new song every hour, and many of them are doing a special Céline show at midnight sharp. It’s going to be a huge hit in France. Jean-Jacques Goldman is untouchable, a music legend, and highly respected.

Imagine if these were the actual lyrics of her upcoming English single. Nothing in her English catalogue comes close to this. And this comes from someone who's a sucker for poetic songs like 'Immortality', 'Where Is The Love', 'Fly', and 'Prayer'.  I really love them. But strictly on a lyrical level, 'Dansons' has more nuance, it creates images, it evokes emotions. It is multi-layered. This song is about defying chaos, it is about solidarity, it is about finding meaning through connection and turning vulnerability into a graceful dance. Really beautiful. And very much needed.

If what was said earlier is accurate, the song was written in 2020, years before Celine revealed her diagnosis with SPS. Yet the lyrics about dancing for those who can’t move feel incredibly fitting in light of that. It’s as if Celine and JJ share a kind of mystical connection.

Oh no, I wouldn't share your opinion. Surely - like in every singers repertoire - she did have not so strong songlyrics (for ex. this "I hate you then I love you" where FIVE songwriters only create a - IMO - lame song for those great singers) - but there are a lot of her English ones which are also very beautiful, meaningful, poetic lyrics, like "Courage", "The Colour Of My Love", "My Love", "In Some Small Way", "With this tear", "Recovering", "Here, There & Everywhere", "Wicked Game", "Calling You" (OK, some of them were covers, but she chose them). They had strong lyrics beyond "main stream".

But somehow I think the beauty and magic of a French or non-English song also lies in the language itself. You can translate it, but you can never get the perfect vibe of the original. As it's with every translated poem. So translation only helps to vaguely understand the words. If she would record that song in English it would be totally different - like f. ex. "Pour que tu m'aimes encore" and "If That's What it Takes" which wasn't able to also transport the magic of the original.

Interesting how we all have different tastes. I think 'Ma Force' is one of the worst songs she's ever recorded. I do not think I've ever been able to listen to it in full. A filler in my books and a bad one. I have always thought that 'The Hard Way' was its English counterpart, lyrically, but much better made. I really like 'The Hard Way'.

I mean if we’re being honest with ourselves Encore Un Soir was a ballad much like this one- albeit with some extra drums- and it ended up being an absolute smash in France. As people have said above, the music landscape in France is very different to what a lot of the western world view as “contemporary” and “radio friendly”, in a lot of ways France has always been more skewed towards appreciating older, more traditional things across all areas of life. As for the vocals in the song, it’s only just come to me after a few more listens that EUS also features softer, more light vocals, which in live shows ended up becoming heavier and belted out, so theres a chance a similar thing could occur here. Overall though it once again shows that the combination of Celine and Jean Jacques really is one of the greatest in music history; they truly are musical kindred spirits who can write for and interpret, respectively, one another in a way no one else could or can. I know he’s said there’s nothing else he can give her for well over 20 years now, but this proves he’ll always have a little bit of magic left for Celine whenever she calls.

Many fans who are disappointed with the new single apply criteria that are relevant to the American market. They expect catchiness, radio friendliness. The French market is not working like that. Just see the kind of songs that France sends to Eurovision every year. 'Voila', 'Mon Amour', 'Et S'il Fallait Le Faire', 'Maman' - these songs would not stand a chance in the American market that is heavily driven by streaming algorithms and youth culture. France, however, still places a lot of value in traditional chansons, where lyrics, storytelling and emotion come first. 'Dansons' ticks all these boxes. Which is why I am sure it has all potential to reach #1.
