I just heard this song on Spotify. This is the angelic voice we miss so much from Celine.

I noticed the “belted” notes in the song are very light and restrained, I wonder if that speaks to her ability at the time of recording, or even now, to actually put any weight and power behind any of her notes. Either way I do recognise how much clearer her pronunciation and tone is here than it has for a long time, I don’t notice any of the rasp others have mentioned, but I definitely notice that her voice sounds a lot lighter, fresher, and (this isn’t an insult!) the mild metallic tone that comes with pitch correction. But I really do adore the simplicity of it, the lyrical beauty, and the call backs to D’eux tracks.

Beautiful song? Yes. Single material? No.

Also noticed that high notes are restrained/not belted fully (either on purpose or not)

From 1:50 she probably sounds the best she’ve sounded since Sans Attendre.

Céline can naturally have this metallic sound.

Same comments when EUS came out about autotune... but she can produce this sound live.

Tbh, if she needs pitch correction on such a song, well, it is worrying.

I finally listen the full song on Apple Music on Dolby Atmos and oh my! It got me. Hearing her sing again made me cry

How did you manage that? I can only find the preview. When I search for the full song, I find nothing 😭

In my country, it’s already Friday midnight so I can play the full song in Dolby Atmos. I’m listening to my home theater so the surrounds are really great when listening to songs in Dolby Atmos.

As for the metallic sound, my voice coach said the voice sounds metalic when it's tired.

That's true, but there is definitely some tuning going on. I don't think we'll ever get the Céline vocals back from LTAL/ANDHC. It doesn't disturb me as much as the vocals like for example Flying On My Own. That whole track to me sounds perticular like a fake, cheap track. Both instruments and vocals. Never liked it live as well.

It seems that they found a way she likes. It's a bit produced, but not too much. Reminds me of the recordings from the Courage album. But those are extremely produced. This song sounds more natural. EUS was certainly not heavily autotuned like Courage.

Metallic is a term that comes from Complete Vocal Technique which implicates a strong, buzzy sound. Not warm, very cool, pinchy. Used in overdrive and edge to be in CVT-terms 🐵 She doesn't sound metallic in this at all, but very neutral, playing with different layers and techniques. But she is not belting in this song. She plays with falsetto, twang and different placements, but very neutral larynx.

Oh, well, then that's not what I/my voice coach meant :D

I've still got it on repeat...at 2:45am 😅instead of driving me up the wall from repeating so many times,it has just kept growing on me and getting more beautiful. A calm beautiful moment, with a clear strong  voice fully in control, which is a nice contrast to her situation in the documentary and makes it a nice comeback song because of that

The song is already available on all platforms in countries where it's past midnight.

Spoiler

She really did that nod to "Les Derniers Seront Les Premiers.

I think this song is very well produced! I love its calm mood and very enjoyable instrumentation. It’s almost healing. It’s very elegant. This song really is like a diamond.

It has elements of PQTE and I don’t know, also elements of Attendre.

Guys, do you also recognize the very clear similarities in sound to Play me like a love song?

With a VPN, spotify only works (in my experience) if you also create the account with the VPN open. But I saw on social media that if you use a VPN, you can find it on youtube because others have posted it there...

Edit: with your spotify link, I can play it without my VPN on for some reason! And it's definitely not midnight yet where I am...

Lyrics:

Spoiler

Dansons

Au-dessus des abîmes

Aux arêtes des cimes

Et les baffons qui tombent

Volons, valsons, dansons

Qu'on le monde vacille

Sur un pas, sur un fil

À nos corps emmêlés

Nos mains nouées pour oublier nos peines

Que rien ne nous retienne

Ne nous retienne

Dansons

Au-dessus des grands vides

Que nos souffles nous guident

Les corps à l'unisson

Jouez, violons, dansons

Ce soir, il y a balle

Au milieu des étoiles

Envers et contre nous

D'où rendez-vous flottants

Front contre front

Floquons sur l'horizon

Floquons sur l'horizon

Dansons

Pour être et rester droit

À ce qu'on se le doit

Pour tous les immobiles

Tous les enfants des lois

Parce que c'est inutile

Parce que toi et moi

Nos visages, nos bras

Malgré tout, puisqu'on ne peut danser

Que debout

Dansons

Inventons nos vertiges

Avant que l'on se vige

Qu'on l'univers hostile

Une île, une île

Dansons

Au-dessus des abîmes

Aux arrêtes des cils

Tournons, puisque le monde

Ne tourne plus rond

English Translation:

Spoiler

Let's dance

Above the abysses

On the ridges of the peaks

And the falling baffles

Let's fly, waltz, dance

Let the world waver

On a step, on a wire

To our entangled bodies

Our hands clasped to forget our sorrows

Let nothing hold us back

Let nothing hold us back

Let's dance

Above the great voids

Let our breaths guide us

Bodies in unison

Play, violins, let's dance

Tonight, there's a ball

Among the stars

Against and against us

From where floating rendezvous

Face to face

Let's scatter on the horizon

Let's scatter on the horizon

Let's dance

To be and remain upright

To what we owe it to ourselves

For all the motionless

All the children of the laws

Because it is Useless

Because you and I

Our faces, our arms

Despite everything, since we can only dance

Standing up

Let's dance

Let's invent our vertigo

Before we wake up

Before we face the hostile universe

An island, an island

Let's dance

Above the abysses

At the edges of eyelashes

Let's turn, since the world

No longer turns round

Some more analysis from my point of view,

I can picture a slow dance with this on stage, either with a couple or herself with a dance partner,  it wouldn't be the old dance partner would it, are those days history? It feels like it

Similar to what others have said, it feels like JJG is back and he purposely made it with nods to past music ( he said long ago he'd written everything for her already so maybe he was giving a bit of everything he's already done) and he has done the usual thing of making it to suit her voice

When listening to it, I can picture it in Paris as a beautiful moment with the crowd singing along, tears in her eyes...goosebumps

Healing is an excellent description, might explain why I wasn't getting bored of it over and over, and another description which shows it suits a calm but strong return after the storm

Okay I have heard it a few times and wow.  Took me a while to properly engage with the song but that’s probably the language barrier. Her voice sounds great and is like travelling back in time.  It’s so light but the semi belts are exquisite.

Angelic and that last note oh my god it’s on repeat. ❤️❤️

I like how she sounds. The song itself needs to grow on me, it's has some surprising bits and flow doesn't feel very standard to me.

Did I expected something different as a first comeback single? Big time yes. I have no clue what this new song will do.

I guess they wanted to go with something slow, and of course in collaboration with JJG. Also kind of feels like they just released it because his name is attached to it, for instant succes.

Overall happy to have new music and that she sounds like Celine.
